Turkey is one of the countries with the greatest cultural and genetic diversity in the world. While the western part is generally a mixture of European and Turkish, the eastern part is under the influence of Iran and the Caucasus. Even the regions have their own diversity. For example, I am in the west of the Black Sea Region. Believe me, there is a big difference between us even with the east of the Black Sea. The western part of the Black Sea is a mixture of Ancient Anatolian and Oghuz, while the eastern part is generally of Laz and Georgian origin. That's why we're not culturally alike at all.
My country is really interesting. Because if you dont visit at least one place from every area of Turkey you cant say that ı know this country. Because everywhere have so different culture, air, view, foods, people. For example I am from Black sea region and you can see all of green tons in here and generaly cloudy, rainy weather. There is beautiful waterfalls, forests. But if you go to the eagean part, you will see more sunny day... warm people, ancient buildings. anotalion part, east part... They are different too. I wonder how most locals there define "Asian." Asia is a big place. Mesopotamia as Asia is strange in my understanding, but normal for his. I don't think there is any real connection with places like India, China, North Korea, Iran, Bhutan, Hawaii, American Indians, etc. All these people are "Asians" too in their DNA, but with vastly different identities.
By "Asian", they actually mean "Anatolian". However, for a "real" Istanbulite (born & grown up in Istanbul and has similar family members from past generations), there is not (or shouldn't be) so much difference between Asian and European side of Istanbul, in terms of culture, lifestyle, etc. (Assuming that one can say geolocation may affect the city culture. Answer is: It affects, yes, considering the first immigration areas in 80s were Asian side. As for today, it's all mixed up). European side of Istanbul is much like touristic/historic zone while Asian side of Istanbul is much like residential area. There are also some minor differences between an Asian and European Istanbulite (considering they are both born&grown up in Istanbul). These are the only significant differences. People in Istanbul now? They are all poor immigrants! lol... There is only one place in the world where you can find 16 million tourists in a city.
The last original Istanbulite has died around 70 years ago and they were probably a Turkish/Greek/Armenian carpenter.

Turks are neither European nor Arab. Turks have their own culture based on the inner Eurasian steppes. Turks migrated to Central Asia, West Asia, Siberia, and Eastern Europe. Turks formed the Proto-Turkic population identity, having the lifestyle of Eurasian equestrian pastoral nomadic culture. Göktürk Khaganate invented the old Turkic Script that first forged a political identity in history. The Turk Culture has been influenced by the attributes of Europe and the Middle East. Geography made the Turks Muslim and government policies made the Turks quasi-Western.

We are not asian and we are not European. We are Turk.
Well, genetically Turks are the distant cousins of Mongols living in a different land today.
Yes.
4:00 hey did you say family?
Verilen cevapların çoğunu saçma buldum.
We Turks are asians , end of discussion. We are not europeans!
@TUGAY YANAR why do you like your own comment LoL. You are not an ethnic turk, maybe a bosnian or an albanian so you are european but we ethnic Turks are not european. I am also from european side of Turkey , that does not mean i am european
@TUGAY YANAR who is pure in the world?
Speak for yourself. I don’t feel I belong to Turkish culture since I was born.
@@Cosmic_Love probably you live in outside of turkey then. If you don't belong to Turkish culture then you are not Turkish either
@@enjoymfs9715 Sadly I am. Both my parents are Turkish and I’ve been living in Turkey my whole life. But it doesn’t mean I have to like Turkish traditions. I don’t necessarily hate them, but I don’t like them either.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
We're west asians/central asians ww never was european and never we'll be
A quarter of Europe belonged to the Turks in a very recent past even today citizens of Turkish origin coming from Europe constitute 1/3 of the population. Being European might have been perceived as advantageous or prestigious in the past, but I certainly don't think that is the case today. Turks, unlike Europeans, are a nation that does not feel foreign, regardless of their location, adapted to both western and eastern culture, which makes them multicultural, unlike Europeans. Energy, population and future are in the east, Turks are definitely more advantageous in cooperation with the east for a richer future which makes them luckier.
What's is wrong with you Turkey is Asian too
True, most of us we see ourselves as Asians and we don't want to be european.
Sometimes I see East Asian people don't think of India, Central and West Asia as part of Asia
Turkey is mostly Asian with a small part in Europe but genetically they are not homogenous...some Turks are mostly European and some are mostly middle eastern/Persian..it depends on the individuals.
Turkish culture is just turkic with obvious influence from Balkan, Iran and neighborhooding Arab countries like Iraq for example.
Persians aren't middle eastern. They are Asians. Most Turks are Middle Eastern/Arabs and closest to their former Ottoman territories in the Middle East. They have nothing to do with Persians/Easterners.
The Ottomans invented multiculturalism.
İstanbul is full of anatolians by origin.
So this is the answer
Turkey is a bizarre mix of European and Middle Eastern culture claiming to be of central Asian origin and Muslim heritage. In terms of DNA research Turkey is a mix of approximately 45% European, 35% Middle Eastern and roughly 20% Asian(Central and South part) ancestry. Turkey is more of like a crossing path between Europe and Asia without belonging to either one to me.
LoL, that is crap. If you consider Native anatolian people as europeans. Then you can be right but we Turks do not have middle eastern genes , we are admixture of native anatolians and Turkic people . Seljuk Turk's heritage in our genes is about 60% , however Proto Turkic genes are close to 20%.
That’s very accurate.
Thats big pile of bs.modern turkish people's autosomal dna component can be modeled as medieval Turkmen+anatolian greek(romanized native anatolian with 0 or near 0 mycenean-helen heritage) nothing european or middleeastern.
@@zooosfromterroristan1188 Is this the reason why so many alleged Turks look like Arabs, sometimes even like Saudis or Yemenis?
@@deingewissen858 you prob havent seen a turk, arab or you are not able to seperate phenotypes of non europeans.our ethnogenesis chart can be modeled as medieval turkmen+bronze age native anatolian according to raw data of dna test samples run through gedmatch.
the guy at 2:13 speaks facts
Derin bir konu 🧐 In my opinion people of Istanbul wants to be European with their Anatolian traditions. They don’t give up their traditions but they forgot one thing; being European is not possible with Anatolian or Asian traditions
Istanbul is a really cosmopolitan city. It is really hard to find an answer to this question
The right question should be what is being European? Who are Europeans? Western White Christians? Atheist Czechs or Estonians? Muslim Bosniaks or Albanians? Black British or Frenchs? Ashkenazi Jews?
@@balporsugu2.0 finally someone who says something reasonable. They are now generalizing concepts. To them Europe means modernity. London, Berlin, Paris. Big money. Globalisation. American style. In a word: European Union. Obviously Europe is a different thing. Europe is the Swiss banker and the Ukrainian lolly driver. Europe is the Finnish death metal group and the Bulgarian chalga singers. Europe is the Czech atheist and the fervent Vatican priest. The huge Madrid and the small Kosovar village. Many languages. Many cousine. Many different traditions. All countries are different. Iceland, Armenia, Malta, Belarus... All different.

In fact, since Turkey is a transit country between two continents, it has a demographically mixed and regional structure. In Turkey, regions such as Thrace and the Aegean are mostly under the influence of Greek and Balkan peoples, and a considerable number of the people living in this geography are Balkan immigrants (those who lived in the Balkans and had to migrate to Turkey due to the unfavorable political atmosphere). The people on the Mediterranean side are classic Mediterranean people and as you go further inland, the connection with Europe decreases. In the interior of the country, Anatolian culture can be observed and as you go to the East, Arab, Persian and Caucasian culture can be observed. Laz and Tatar culture can be observed in the North of the country. Turkey is actually a place where different cultures mix and in this respect it is a special country.
I don't feel like both of them. Anatolian and mediterrian would be precise words to describe myself
But If I had to choose either one of them,I'd prefer asian over to european

Istanbul originally was a Byzantine city and was called Constantinopel. It belonged to the western world. The ideal situation would be when islam, christian and jewish culture meet and have a positive cultural influence on each other.

Turkish people behavior are similar to the Greek people, therefore their culture is closer to the Greek culture except for the religion. For over 1000 years, the Byzantine Empire existed in the area of today's Istanbul (and Turkey). It existed twice as long as the rule of Islam in Turkey. The citizens of the Byzantine Empire did not disappear. They have embraced Islam, but they carry the heritage of both cultures.
