  • Students in the Department of Animal Sciences enhance the well-being of humans and the animals they keep. They contribute to a safe, nutritious, sustainable, and affordable food supply; and improve the health and safety of companion animals.     Animal Sciences Major
    As an animal sciences major, you can customize your degree with one of three concentrations:
    Companion Animal and Equine Science
    Students in this concentration are prepared for careers in specialized fields of animal care, health, and well-being associated with zoos, kennels, research laboratories, and the equine industry.
    Food Animal Production and Management
    In this concentration, our students train for careers in animal care and management or the food production industries. You’ll learn the scientific foundations and applications of technology involved in animal production and animal products. You will gain practical, hands-on knowledge that will prepare you for a future in animal agriculture. Science, Pre-Veterinary and MedicalThis concentration, emphasizing fundamental science courses, allows you to create a curriculum that will satisfy entrance requirements to the graduate or professional school of your choice. You’ll be ready to succeed whether you choose veterinary school, pharmacy school, or advanced scientific study.
    Computer Science + Animal Sciences Major
    Computer Science + Animal Sciences (CS+ANSC) is the first major of its kind to address the digital revolution in animal sciences. CS+ANSC students prepare to work with sensor technology, large data sets, and predictive analytics, improving the health and well-being of production animals and pets in Illinois and throughout the world.
