Yes I'm a South African coloured person I mentioned this because Hitler wanted Africa and India to take it he and his croneys had to wipe out colonialists so I'm grateful that France and Britain along with Portugal probably took the brunt of the WW2 attacks inadvertantly protecting us in the colonies I'm always WW2:enthusiast and used to read war picture Library comics printed in Kimberly on my dear father's Lap ...with him .sorry for sharing nostalgia but people died for us without knowing it .Hitler also wanted to infiltrate the British royal family as they where related all over Europe he wanted his family to be joined with royalty .very few realised this
What a lovely little gem to watch. None of the Hollywood nonsence, just a story with real people. I had the privilege of spending some time on a submarine during my army days. Not my cup ot tea, but kudos to those that do it. Thank you for sharing this.
I agree with other comments. The actively serving seamen did a great job of being as natural and normal as possible. No self conscious looks. The British are masters of understatement and that's what makes this docudrama a pleasure to watch.
Great movie. Very realistic. I was a 3yo child in New Zealand when this action took place. The efforts of service personnel such as these men, possibly contributed to the survival of my family and myself. For this, and including, i will always be grateful to the United States of America for entering the war in the Pacific Theatre when they finally did and saving my country. I enlisted as an Infantry soldier with my country's Army at 21yo and served abroad. Bob. (Veteran).RNZIR.
IN WATERS DEEP In ocean wastes no poppies grow, No crosses stand in ordered row, There young hearts sleep...beneath the wave... The spirited, the good, the brave, But stars a constant vigil keep, For them who lie beneath the deep. 'Tis true you cannot kneel in prayer On certain spot and think, "He's there." But you can to the ocean go... See whitecaps marching row on row; Know one for him will always ride... In and out...with every tide. And when your span of life is passed, He'll meet you at the "Captain's Mast." And they who mourn on distant shore For sailors who'll come home no more, Can dry their tears and pray for these Who rest beneath the heaving seas... For stars that shine and winds that blow And white caps marching row on row. And they can never lonely be For when they lived...they chose the sea. -- Eileen Tara Mahoney
The "northern waters" of the opening scene is the Holy Loch, near Helensburgh on the south west coast of Scotland. While technically within range for German medium bombers, it was beyond the range of fighter escorts, and the route was heavily defended by the RAF. Air attack would have been near-suicidal, so the base was relatively safe.
These poor buggers suffered some of the highest British casualties of the war, with a fatality rate of around 32%. Only Bomber Command at 46% was worse. But that pales compared to the German U-Boat crews, who suffered 75% losses.
What a pleasant surprise! For not being actors they did great! Being a Yank, it was nice to see a Royal Navy submarine movie; I haven't run across too many of those. Maybe someone can answer a question for me- I've noticed that many of the movies before 1950 sound “sped up” a little to me and a bit tinted. Is it just me? 🤷♂️ thanks! -Doc
Under fire. What about some tea, Miller. Makes you weep when you see the state of the UK today and what these men went through. What did we end up with? Starmer.
@@TomThumb-d1r I'm afraid we all must face up to the fact we kept voting for the parties that let this happen, no credible alternative existed for sensible people .
AS a Yank I find it amazing that the Royal navy allowed drinking and had no problems while The US Navy continued to forbid alcohol on its ships and subs.
love how the boat obviously left from and would probably return to Scotland, but when they pick up Norwegians are being taken to England to fight for the English. Makes me wonder what the Scots, Welsh ,Irish, not to mention the Commonwealth forces were doing.
Brilliant… however I am truly grateful I was in the only Sub Specialisation of General Service that could not be Drafted to Boats. Long live Bunts… 😜⚓️🍺

It was, if not quite normal, acceptable to wear comfortable clothing rather than spick & span uniform as long as it did not impact on efficiency. I have a photograph of my father on board a frigate, in WW2, wearing flannel trousers with uniform jacket and cap. Rules were for guidance 😊

Absolutely marvellous. A lost Britain we will never see again.
Better than Hollywood.Well done HM Submarine Service.

G'day to you, Good little Movie, no one running around Panicking as we usually see, thanks for this! Armadale West Aust.
I like submarine movies... run silent;run deep is my favorite... this is a new one for me... good job.
Nice to see actual conditions, sizes and procedures of RN.
Thoroughly enjoyed this glimpse into submarine life. Than you! ❤️🇦🇺

Were WWII British submarines really that roomy inside ?

Being brought up in nearby Dunoon I recognised the Holy Loch with Kilmun in the background.

Second viewing, just as good and exciting as the first one!
Excellent. I’ve never seen this one before. Very brave men indeed.🏴🇬🇧

I truly enjoyed this film , very great suspense .
Totally authentic I served on T class boats, op., from Rothsay👍
Would today's generation come to the party? I think so.
Jolly good show chaps.

Roomiest WW II sub I have ever seen !!

Outstanding !!!!
My father served on T class subs.
Brilliant work
VERY tight quarters
Good movie, Good "actors" the ONLY problem was the person who did the subtitles.
Thanks
Thank you for the SuperChat donation - it is very, very much appreciated!

I can't imagine a worse place to be than in a sub.
Absolute heroes

submariners do it deeper
I wonder if the Captain ever accidentally dropped his pipe down the speaking tube?
Voice pipe u landlubber
Cigarettes in a submarine. It is so funny. I stopped smoking 11 years ago.

Submarines. Deep down you know they make sense.
I noticed a picture of the Queen on the wall years before she took the throne. Otherwise an enjoyable movie.
She may have been the sponsor of the vessel. I know that she christened a number of ships before she became the queen.
The crew wouldn’t been allowed to smoke on duty, would they ?
Submarine Captain in coat and tie?????
Returning from leave

the british "das boot"
One finds it pretty hard to believe that all HM Navy officers spoke with received pronunciation and all other ranks did not. I mean to say.....
Yars I agree. Top form old chap. Nothing like a spot of potting off a hun before tiffin. Toodle pip! 😂
It's not really real, you know. It's a film (movie for our transatlantic cousins).
Joer solo hay sub en inglés,ni siquiera hay traducción automática a Vose.Que pena!!!

Plenty of smoking going on.
None of the HOLLYWOOD BS, Dramatics and soap.
Looks pretty roomy. Don’t think it was
If you want to see how boring it is to be in a submarine watch this movie
A lot of stiff upper lips and British pluck went into making this film
It would be nice if you could colorize these old movies.
You must be a young one, there was very little colour then everything was battleship grey.
No things were really black and white in those days.
@@twotone3070 Battleship grey was the paint of choice as it was usually nicked from the shipyards or sold at the Army and Navy store ergo my comment.
