@Young_Weilerthis. I tend to avoid popular things because I’m dead tired of them before I even attempt to watch. Idc about the attention and I’m not trying to be different lol
This is so accurate, there are just some people that hate stuff because they want to be different to the majority, it's really weird, you don't need to like it too, but imagine changing your opinion on something from positive to negative because it's popular.
This video touches on another thing that I genuinely think is worse: people acting like "mid" is a bigger insult than "trash". Why do we think like this? I like plenty of things that I thought were like 6 or 7 out of 10. But I've had people insult me for liking things that are "mid", like it's only acceptable to consume things that are the best of the best. Why don't we all get more comfortable with acknowledging the flaws of the things we like, while still liking them? 6 out of 10 is a positive rating.
Mid is worse than trash bcs something that’s trash probably never had any hope that it’d be good anyways like it was flawed on a foundational level. Mid however implies that it’s got some good potential but the makers simply failed to capitalize fully on it which is so much more frustrating.
because if something is trash then it could still be enjoyable trash because you can duke on it ex: S. Darko or The Room. it's the common occurrence of something being so bad it becomes good. Meanwhile, if something is "mid" then it's just mediocre. It doesn't even excel at being bad
Because "mid" gets thrown around over content that are obviously at the peak of everything else in relevance. If something is mid, then certainly there is some example that is above it. Dumbasses cannot give 5.
Yeah, you can see this with movie and game reviews all the time. It's always 8/10, 9/10, 10/10, 11/10. 7/10 is considered horrible trash that sold 2 copies and a 6/10 is considered utter failure. I've never seen 5/10, 4/10, 3/10, 2/10, or 1/10 reviews excluding on review averages from places with upvote downvote systems. Mid indicates being average which would mean 5/10, but the average is 8/10 for some reason. People think reviews are somehow identical to the grading system from school.
Funny enough, had just this conversation with my friend an hour ago. Just because something is trending and is super popular doesn't necessarily diminish the quality of the product in the slightest...
@@tigervalley62 people also just hate the fandoms or other people that talk about it. Not the anime itself. They then feel that those people ruined the anime for them, so now they dislike the anime.
It's pretty simple. Anything that goes mainstream must appeal to wider audience that often means the little things that got to people to love it the first place is left on the cutting room floor. It's the very nature of media. Not sorry, it's the little things that makes the story. Otherwise I'm old enough to have heard almost every story told in every different way.
I personally love when something I love becomes popular. That just means there’s more people to share the love with. And if everyone loves it, it must be that good.
A nerd that's happy with himself and doesnt use every opportunity to be selfish and try to make himself feel special because he's a "true fan"? That just seem lame and unbelievable. ;)
This is how you get low quality discourse and the degradation of the community. That is why people hate popular things, the huge amount of people swarming in ruin it.
Sometimes things are just neat and nice for what little, wholesome value they hold. Nothing majorly outstanding but enjoyable and likable. Then it becomes popular. Suddenly everyone and everywhere announces it as the best thing ever, going crazy about it. "I rebuilt the entire world of it in my bathroom?!?", "How the letter B has a deep hidden meaning every time it appears!", "This underrated character that got two lines of dialogue is actually the best character written since the invention of writing??!". Suddenly your feelings for something that you liked can't live up to what the popular representation of it implies should be your feelings for it. It's a bit like watching a friend becoming famous and growing more distant as a result. Which is a somewhat common occurrence if this scenario occurs.
People who hate on something cause popularity are annoying, just as people who get pressed cause someone doesn't like it as much as them too. Perfectly balance

Frankly, I think it's silly that people let a whole bunch of hype get in the way of enjoying the show. Not liking it due to overhype a.k.a. due to popularity (overhype and large amounts of popularity is, in all practicality, the same) is exactly what this skit is against. Hating because of large amounts of popularity is barely a step up from hating just to hate.
@@TheMonotonePuppet i agree but i do get not wanting to watch a show after people constantly shove it in your face, which could be a version of overhype
@@TheMonotonePuppet I see what your saying, but I think you missed my point. I didn't say hating due to overhype. I said not liking something that much. For example, when I started watching Star Wars, I enjoyed it. But people overhyped it as the best thing ever, so I went in with high expectations. While I find it good, I wasn't blown away like I was expecting to be. I like Star Wars, but I find it was overhyped. That's different from hating just to hate. Like in this video, the guy is portrayed as to start hating on something he actually really enjoys, but starts trashing on it simply because the show was popular. He doesn't have any actual criticism for it and was outted for actually being apart of the hype. But he switched up just because. That's not hating due to overhype or popularity. That's hating just to hate, and that's some bullshit.
Gotta love it when people make hating something mainstream their entire personality. Like how insecure do you have to be to feel some sort of superiority for not liking a show/game? lmao
I myself actually dislike basically all mainstream anime. I have no reason behind it other than it is mainstream and popular. I simply just can't explain why. In my head, I know they are good animes and mangas but I just can't bring myself to ever watch or read them. I couldn't tell you why. Actually, even if it isn't popular. I've heard people explain the reason they start to hate something that's popular is because they will constantly see and hear about it. I suppose even if you like something it can get boring or even irritating if it's constantly shoved in your face. Kinda like eating the same food over and over. Eventually you get sick of it.

This, as well as constantly being associated with the freako fans of something. Among Us and Fortnite type of people that just attack the game after some time, simply for gaining attention. It’s worse when children start hoarding community because that’s when everyone will just stigmatize the game due to the influx of kids. It happened to FNAF. As it actually use to be a horror game. Among us was a fairly normal murder mystery game until 2020 when it became a giant meme and then everyone hated on it afterwards when they got bored of it. Currently, Lethal Company is fine. Everyone is loving it and meme-ing acts of dread, voice activity, and funny moments. I can only see the hatred coming once the developer starts to do multiple updates on the game as people will be like “ohhh it’s not like how it use to be. God this game fucking sucks now.” Despite it generally being the same game with only enhanced gameplay.
As someone who’s unreasonably hated on a show because it’s popular, it’s not usually for anything the show did. It’s the things people say about it. Like when JJK first got popular (don’t worry I like JJK now, it’s hard to hate on that show) people used to compare it to ALL OF NARUTO despite only having like 6 episodes. Used to grind my gears fr, let the show be its own show.
Ironically comparing it to the beginning of Naruto was what turned me off on it. Like wow, another Shounen series where the main character is possessed by a demon and has a fighting school test arc set in a forest, we're really breaking new ground huh. I think JJK is a super well made show, but I think I've just outgrown the shonen battle genre. There's still gems that do something different or unique like Chainsaw Man but on the whole I'm pretty much over teenagers screaming about determination and endless training arcs. DEFINITELY more power to people who like that though, no disrespect intended 100% because I absolutely see the appeal, just not for me.
@@ArkThePieKingI always say don’t fix what ain’t broke, but at the same time with the explosion of anime’s popularity they need to find new grounds. It’s good to have one or two series retread the path of the “good old days,” but when a majority of the dozens of shounen anime that release a year do exactly that, then it’s just a case of being stuck on the past. I don’t think you or most other people are truly experiencing battle shounen burnout. It’s the same with people claiming “superhero burnout” is the reason why superhero movies stopped performing as well. The real issue is that no one is innovating the field, and we’re just being shown a bunch of shows we already watched, but in a new coat of paint. Like, yeah a cool combat system and some characters being explored in-depth in thought provoking ways alone can help a shounen succeed in the moment. But once the hype dies down, can it leave a lasting impact like DBZ, or Naruto/Shippuden, or One Piece, or OPM (at least in season 1, where the premise stood out from just “hero organization fights villain organization”) all did?
@@ArkThePieKing Go for seinen, not shonen. Shonen is aimed for young boys, which is why it might be harder for you to enjoy/relate to it. There's a reason shonen action anime/manga uses the same tropes lol. Seinen is still "for men", but it's primarily aimed towards the young adult male demographic (20-50). As such, the stories are often more linear and relatable, and can sometimes be quite deep. Personally I've never liked shonen, even when I was young, so when I learned about seinen it basically changed my life lol. Good luck!

i stg its so annoying how everyone has to hate on things as soon as they are too popular and they never admit thats why. like nobody knows how to just be objective anymore, they are too worried about trying to look cool bc its "cringe" to like things too much esp if they are too well liked by a crowd already
This is why I'm glad certain anime I enjoy like Symphogear and Getter Robo are niche in the US. You don't have to run risk of people hating on it for being popular because not many people in the US even know those shows exist!
As someone who has felt that hatred for popular things, I personally felt that the fans and the advertisement overwhelming my senses made me hate it on principle. I still gave it a chance later.

Mid however implies that it’s got some good potential but the makers simply failed to capitalize fully on it which is so much more frustrating.
because it's fun to make fun of my friend for liking demon slayer
because if something is trash then it could still be enjoyable trash because you can duke on it ex: S.
Unfortunately, mate, the drama and hate surrounding that content is more popular than the content itself.
No, but its dumb to follow just because its popular
@@yamz1156: That is also true.
That just seem lame and unbelievable. ;)
I think gatekeeping should be more popular.
This is how you get low quality discourse and the degradation of the community. That is why people hate popular things, the huge amount of people swarming in ruin it.
Me too. Believe it or not, I prefer a fandom with everyone equally enjoying than a one with man babies constantly whining about what THEY want.
Most Definitely agree
Mid being more insulting than trash has never been more true
It's even worse when they try and guilt trip you for liking the show when they were the ones who introduced you to it in the first place 💀💀💀
Brother, if your friend is trying to guilt trip you over a show... I'm just saying from an outsiders perspective, that don't look good.

Of course...if they just say it sucks without being able to tell you why then that's just as bad because it means they don't really internalize the problems and actually have an opinion on it, instead they just don't want to risk liking something that someone else has criticized/pointed out flaws for (because for some reason they value the opinion of other people over their own).

I can always understand not liking something that much due to overhype, but the people who hate JUST to hate because they think it makes them look cool need to shut up. 😂

@@TheMonotonePuppet I see what your saying, but I think you missed my point. I didn't say hating due to overhype. I said not liking something that much.
I've heard people explain the reason they start to hate something that's popular is because they will constantly see and hear about it. I suppose even if you like something it can get boring or even irritating if it's constantly shoved in your face. Kinda like eating the same food over and over. Eventually you get sick of it.
This is true & actually how I feel. & the fanbase is toxic & terrible 😂 I just lose interest period
The difference is it's not like every time you hear about the show, someone straps you down & makes you watch the whole thing again.
This! And then I make it a point to never give it a chance cause I feel like society is trying to force me to.
@@D_YellowMadness But you still see the hype everywhere if something hits the mainstream... This, as well as constantly being associated with the freako fans of something. Currently, Lethal Company is fine. Everyone is loving it and meme-ing acts of dread, voice activity, and funny moments.
