Generally speaking, whenever a game offers 1% fire rate vs 1% damage, the most efficient way to increase them is to equally divide because they scale off each other. This will be true in the majority of cases.

This exactly. If 2 buffs give me about the same amount of DPS increase, but one increases my rate of fire, I'm taking that one every time. @@realperson69

Are you going back to Timberborn soon? They are adding badwater that can make your beavers sick, and ruin ground soil, along with special log pumps to pump that water. Additionally, they are adding decontamination pods for sick beavers. I'd like to see how you deal with it.

Well, given that the consist is only a single caboose (so hauling capacity isn’t a concern), a streamlined Pacific-type steamer will run circles around just about any diesel not specifically built for speed.
I'm not convinced about circular but my guess is that AOE weapons should be on random just to be able to hit as many different zombies as possible while the gun should be on closest and then you can put one weapon on cursor so that you can target the bosses.

You should really make use of one of the other targetting modes so all your guns aren't focused on enemies that only need one or two hits.
