Pretty sure Bjørn triggers a lot of first time viewers with his "What the heck is this thing? A weapon?". BTW the so called serious car review channels have a thing or two to learn about being funny and entertaining from the guy who's half chinese, half thai, half german and half norwegian.
I test-drive the iX3 just this last saturday. Found it very pleasant. Good power, good handling, super silent inside. And generally gigantic, as this video shows.
Thanks Bjorn for this test always good to know I can stow 24 boxes, I bought one in the same blue colour different interior though. Looking forward to the range test.
Bjorn! Another great video, i loved that. The automatic tailgate works like this (please try it): One step behind like normal, step to the car, kick (direction to the rear bumper), step back. And it will work properly every time.
If people are excited about an EV-platform, they often underestimate, that minimum air resistance has a price, which is to pay by less internal space - even though the motor compartment can be smaller. So the iX3 is a good compromise, because it has an efficient drivetrain, that can compensate for the higher air resistance. And it actually looks like a real car and less like a cough drop on wheels.
Great video as always, I like the German words you spoke in the video👌 Btw imagine how many boxes the BMW could carry with a frunk. It is way more functional than i thought.
Ohhh, the banana box test with EQS will be so funny. Regarding the frunk and the length of the bonnet. I think this car will positively surprise you with its efficiency. I heard a rumour from Norway testers. I don't know how they do it, EQC failed and it's quite similar.
If I build the car like this, I would put a little frunk opening (so you don't have to open the whole hood) for putting the charging cables, tire repairing kit, heavy duty bubble blower, warning triangle and medical kit. Under the trunk is the worst place for charging cables. If you drive to work, you don't use your trunk, but you also don't have to use the cable. If you go on vacation, the trunk is completly full but you need to put out the cable for recharging (motel, restaurant without fast charger).
That thing you keep finding in these cars. I think it's a key for the get you home clockwork mechanism for when you use up all the charge on the battery. 😜🤪
This car is 15cm longer than the ID.4 and has lightly smaller trunk. The 15cm more is the hood space. So basing on an electric platform, it could at least be 15cm smaller.
backseat viewer here, good content as always. you've been praising the id3 and id4 a lot recently, would love to hear your comment on tesla mod 3 sr+ just getting 50 000 nok cheaper, might shift the scale back from vw a fair bit I reckon
There is so much space in the front because its just an regular X3 with electric powertrain. Space under the hood could accommodate 3 liter straight 6 diesel
"Honey, what is outside the window?" "Nothing, that guy is just again messing around with massive amounts of banaboxes" No hate bro, great videos, keep it up 😀
@@Psi-Storm err - nop - the battery is liquid cooled and the radiator for the liquid cooling is below the blanked off front as noted in the review - like all other EV's - just above the splitter. The amount of "waste" energy dissipated by charging/high power usage is many times less than the wasted energy of an ICE engine - hence the minimal cooling area.
I think the frunk will die sooner or later. They will try to increase contiguous space over having two smaller separate spaces as this gives you much more utility. The frunk seems to be old thinking. This car, however, has no excuse..
For safety, you are always going to have crush space ahead of the front axle. They might as well use it to transport non-living cargo. Here they used it to make videogame-like plumbing.
Not gonna lie, I was expecting it to have the same results as the E-Niro. When I look at the side profile, it looks similar to me apart from the front.
You are aware that ix3 is significantly bigger then e-niro? Its almost 4.8m long...its humongous in length.. and also in height... Its bigger even then Enyaq!?
now we can compare the outer measurements with an ID4: iX3: L 4,73 / B 1,89 / H 1,67 m id.4: L 4,58 / B 1,85 / H 1,63 m now you can see the advantage of the id.4 and the id.4 could take even one box more. you of course get more luxury in an iX3. but paying 50% more and even get slightly less range is a bit of a down side. i think it would be fair to compare it with an Audi Q4 e-tron to have a similar kind of luxury. that then might be the right way to compare the price. i think the iX3 is a very good car in general, but the slightly limited rage is not something to be proud of - especially for the price. if they could use the space in the front for extra 10kWh for the same price it would be a 2021 car. but in this case, i would rate it as a good 2019 EV.
I also disregarded the frunk misser when buying this car but a misser it is. In all honesty I have an i3s with a frunk which I open 2 times a year so yeah is it actualy a problem, no not realy
Unbelievable good, blowing Mercedes out of the water... Going to be exiting if BMW decides about 2030, to give us a pure EV platform. For now, they want to give Tesla/VW free EV sales and not make too much competition it seems. As expected, they don't want to feed the masses. They want to be small and service niche market.
When I saw you looking for the frunk, I noticed the big altitude, in which the hood lays above the floor - about 1.1 m. If there was a frunk and you tried to fish a charging cable from its bottom, you would have good chances to scratch the fender or kidney grill with your belt buckle. I wonder, if this ist the reason, why BMW rejected to install a frunk in the middle of this huge engine compartment.
The front ist really amazing... BMW engineer: OK, the desgners made a huge front with a lot of space, but not we don't have enough technik to fill it... what can we do" Boss: Put a plastic cover on it, nobody will see that but every driver will have the feeling of ab big and strong car because of that huge front... $$$ German engineering in 2021... :-(
The banana box is now the official international measure of interior vehicle capacity. Good sheeet!
That free space in the frunk is ridiculous!
ABC! Amazing Banana-box capacity ! :)

Finally iX3! Hopefully many series coming on this one! Long awaited!
Been waiting for this one! Can’t wait to see the further tests!
The weapon part is absolutely my favorite

Come on Bjørn Nyland, you should know better! This thing you found in the trunk is the bubble blower!
He knows 😄
It's the *heavy* *duty* bubble blower!
Let me rub the tow hitch for a minute.....LMAO.

Got to love the humor 😅 Great video as always!
So curious to see a range test or an 1000km challenge. Or maybe the Geilo test.... Please Bjorn, we are begging you. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Man, I love those folding seats, I wish my x5 had that.
Can’t wait to see the driving tests of this car! 👏
Little bit of better packaging in the front, and it could have had one of the biggest frunks out there...
Maybe something for the aftermarket. Enough for chargingcable and small stuff at least.

Why is it hidden, but also illuminated?
Dunno, ask Aighars Mahinovs? He works for BMW.
awesome! Where is Skoda Enyaq iv ?
according to previous info he will test it around next week
They could've just shape that plastic cover in the front to create some extra storage space...
oh well legacy engineers
I’m pretty shure that someone will make an aftermarket one

@ 6:19 I think its if you get locked in the car you can smash a window to scape.
6:10 In german we call this weapon "Abschlepphaken". Pretty dangerous. 😂
But the name also is a little bit incorrect. In fact it is a "Abschleppöse", not a "Haken" (hook). 🤫

Bjorn can you test the New Pizza Wagen Fiat 500 42kwh? I’m very interested in it. Thank you!

Maybe the front empty space is for a AWD model... But it could be used for a Frunk in RWD model like this!
Motor and inverter takes about the same space as two melons only.
