  • What does one do when one loses a loved one to medical error? What lessons can come out of a tragedy? Brian Murphy, educator, author, and founder of The Quinn Murphy Foundation, shares a complex moment of loss, and the lesson from a micro-moment.
Brian Murphy is the president of the Quin Murphy Foundation and the author of Losing Quin, a book that documents his shocking discoveries on the medical establishment. Brian’s book brings this problem to the conscious mind, honors his son who died unexpectedly from a misdiagnosed illness, and shares the power of forgiveness.
Find out more about this event and the other ideas that were shared at www.tedxchulavista.com Brian Murphy is a father, husband, principal, and the president of the Quin Murphy Foundation. He is the author of Losing Quin, a book about the unexpected and tragic loss of his son, Quin, who passed away at the age of 16 due to a misdiagnosed illness. Not satisfied, he analyzed the medical records where he found that he had been diagnosed wrongly and ignored by doctors.
Through careful research, Murphy uncovered countless cases of medical malpractice and the mercenary practices of medical corporations. In Losing Quin, Brian documents his shocking discoveries, not as an act of revenge against the medical establishment, but to create conscience of this problem, honor his son by sharing the power of forgiveness and give a compassionate perspective that redefines how to face situations that bring unexpected tragedies. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Beautiful Message Brian. I’ve never seen this video before I know we don’t see each other, and I know we’re still friends. I just want to say that I am sorry for this. I know your boy was about little Joaquin’s age because they both played soccer together on the same team as kids. I am grateful for the Murphy family. God bless you.

Great presentation. All it takes is a “micro moment of connection” resonates with me as I did insist doctors time w/ me when I needed answers to questions re: my mother’s health. They were ready to release her while there were still ongoing issues w/ her health. More people need to advocate for their loved ones.Thank you for bringing light to this ongoing issue! 🙏🏼❤️
