    It’s not gonna hurt it, it won’t any of these modern bikes. Chains are more then strong enough. If it snaps then it’s in pretty bad shape. The clutch will take it all day long. There’s dampeners behind the clutch basket.

      Wow, it's JakeTheGardenSnake!! Haha. Nice to hear from you Jake! I've been following your CRF300L build and enjoy watching your videos. I used to work as a mechanic at a motorcycle shop. We sold 7 brands: Ducati, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Husqvarna, KTM and GASGAS. The Triumph clutch has dampeners too. I'm sure modern bikes clutches can take more abuse than an old 1973 Triumph, but you know that it will be easier on the clutch by using it normally. I'm going to play it safe as I keep my bikes for a long time and want them to last forever. I can get the front end up in second gear on my stock CRF300L without clutching it up. It easily comes up right off idle in first. I did have a brand new chain break. Luckily it only failed on one side before I caught it. It was the o-ring chain that came on my brand new 1983 XR350R. Have a great day and thanks for stopping by! 🏍🙂

      Materials science has come miles and miles since his dad's badass classic Triumph or even his buddy's Honda Interceptor. Though it's a good story as to why you should get protective gear.

      Physics still effect modern bikes. It's food for thought if you plan on keeping it for a while. If you're going to gatekeep on every 300l video, at least start providing some proof lol.

    Thanks! I been practicing, and when I do, I like to practice in a field or dirt, just not concrete or asphalt until I’m use to the bike. I think the whole time I was just spinning my wheel in the dirt , because I just couldn’t get it to wheelie like a dirt bike until I changed my rear tire. Lol... At least that’s what it seems like anyway... With the new grips, the off road wheelie seemed to have gotten a little bit easier.

    The clutch drags on my 250 even though there's plenty of freeplay in the lever. Sounds like I need to stop doing clutch ups 😅

    Something about all the pros use their clutch to control and not the throttle, blips, second blips, hill climbs. Control with steady throttle or off throttle clutch for blips. Clutches can will do there thang for a long time. No worries.

    • @cyclerider5652
      @cyclerider5652  2 месяца назад

      OK. Remember a pro race bike like a CRF250R has an engine designed for racing with a big clutch that has a quick access cover so you can work on it as you will be doing on a race bike. The CRF300L is using a CBR300 street bike motor with a smaller clutch, no quick access cover and not designed for racing. I suppose it could possibly hold up for a long time under abuse it is a Honda. Pro's use the clutch to modulate power. To stop it from doing a wheelie not to pull wheelies anyway. Race bikes wheelie in any gear without using the clutch. Abusing the clutch to make a big heavy underpowered bike to pull wheelies is abuse IMO. I can wheelie just as good by standing up and pulling on the bars so there is no reason to do abuse the clutch. Ride yours as you wish.

    How does one do a wheelie without a clutch up? lots of gas and pulling the wheel up?

    • @cyclerider5652
      @cyclerider5652  Год назад +1

      First gear on the CRF300L will easily wheelie right off idle with a twist of the wrist. Second gear requires standing on the pegs and pulling on the bars with all you've got while hitting the throttle at the same time.

  • @josephbishop3231
    @josephbishop3231 2 года назад +1

    You can wheelie a CRF300 without the clutch?

    • @cyclerider5652
      @cyclerider5652  2 года назад +1

      Yes. First gear will wheelie easily right off idle. 2nd gear is harder to wheelie but will if you get it right on the power band and pull on the handlebars at the same time. I could get third gear wheelies if it was geared down like a dirt bike with a larger back sprocket, but I like to keep the gearing stock for street riding. It's perfect. 2nd gear wheelies are good enough for me for a dual sport. It's a second gear wheelie at the end of the video.

  • @Dudeitzmimi

    I don't think it would hurt the bike at all now, but it's definitely way better to not clutch up. It's a bad habit to have and you're not controlling the bike when you pop the clutch.

    • @cyclerider5652
      @cyclerider5652  6 месяцев назад

      It just seems wrong to me to be popping the clutch on a bike in order to make it wheelie that way. I can always wheelie a bike just as well without popping the clutch. It's harder to do. Have to time everything just right.
      Back in the day, I did a really long 2nd gear wheelie on that old 4 speed Triumph 500 twin without popping the clutch. It was a steep uphill with a little bump in the road which made it easier. Ended up going right past my then girlfriend's house because I could not let this rare 2nd gear wheelie go to waste and did not want to put the front wheel down yet. Didn't know her father was out working in the front yard. 🤣

      Clutching up a wheelie is harder on clutch and drivetrain. I guess it's how hard you want to thrash on your bike.

    Are you telling me the CBR 300r motor isn't built the same as the dirt bike motors? It's funny that people don't realize that their CRF 250 or 300 is a dirt bike with a street motor

    • @cyclerider5652
      @cyclerider5652  2 года назад

      I know the CRF300L motor is based off the CBR600 motor with different cams and different gearbox. Could me more little differences. But yes, I know it's basically the same motor.

    I have a cbr300r with 23k+ miles. It’s currently a scrambler. I’ve clutched up that bike sooooooooo many times learning to wheelie. I had to take it apart(crankcase cover, clutch basket, etc. to replace the shifter spindle because I wrecked it. There was no damage to the basket or plates or anything. I’ve done even more clutch ups and miles on it since the repair and have noticed zero diminished clutch function. Your personal choice is yours, but I don’t understand telling people to live in fear I.e. scared to pop clutch and open a crankcase without valid reasons and only non-applicable/anecdotal information about a bike from decades ago that….and here’s the kicker-your dad may not have told you everything he did on the bike😳. Heck, you might be blaming yourself and unnecessarily living in fear because of something your dad did to the thing😂
