It’s not about someone else saving you. It’s surprising as to how Americans subscribed to someone else saving them in the first place!

Even if you find the metaphysics of Vedanta dense, one good way to think about it is that it’s a self-help guide to get our existential angst - anxiety, fear, depression etc. The meditative practice does so by making us less reactive to things.
