I just revisited this video after doing an out and back, from Yardley to Easton. I took SEPTA from right outside Philly to the Yardley station (13MM), to Easton (62MM), and then a few miles to a hotel. More description below in a comment.
Thank you for your awesome channel. I enjoy watching your travels, they are inspiring! Stay safe and happy pedaling!

Gonna hit this trail this weekend. Shooting for a two day trip. Which overnight town do you suggest?

Awesome, its great trail. Some towns that would be interesting to stay in would be New Hope. Bethlehem, Easton, and Jim Thorpe. There are also some options on The Jersey side. Across the river from New Hope is Lambertsville, very historic, lots of restaurants and shops there. Hope you have great ride, take your time through The Lehigh Gorge State Park north of Jim Thorpe.

Curious where you all camped along the way? Are there a lot of areas to camp along the trail (Like the GAP or C&O trails)? Or do you have to plan to go to campgrounds? I'm looking to do this this end to end as well this coming may! Thanks for posting the great videos. Looks like a blast!

We spent two nights out there, one in a hotel in Bethlehem, and we stealth camped in a park in New Hope. There are lots of opportunities to just camp along the River south of Easton. Hope you have a great trip.

Great video series & I realize it's nearly 4 years old. I was looking to do this end to end this summer in a multi day ride, but looking at the D & L website there seem to be so many areas that have red sections and saying obstruction and so forth. Is it possible to do this end to end? I was going to reach out to the staff, but any input from riders would be fantastic. Thanks again for the footage. It looks beautiful.

Cool, thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the videos. Currently the trail is closed for about 3 miles around White Haven. There are some roads you can ride around the detour, and it’s bike route L. From White Haven take River rd around town to The Tannery, where the trail opens up again. The only other closing that I know of is around Northampton, but it’s really just a couple miles on the road. The trail should be clear from Bethlehem to Bristol. The closures are fenced off really well, it’s not like you can sneak Thru. Hope you found this useful.

I just did an overnight, out and back from Yardley to Easton this July 4th weekend. My first solo bike packing trip. There are a couple closures, one in Lumberville, so I crossed over to the Jersey side and road up to Frenchtown on the D&R trail. In Frenchtown, I had lunch before crossing back over to PA into Uhlerstown. Then the another closure, at mile 44, in Upper Black Eddy. There is a 100 foot washout from Hurricane Ida last year. The canal is dry there, so with some effort and encouragement from a couple with a dog in the washout, I crossed with some effort. The next day, I hit that spot with a few other cyclists and we helped each other get down and up through the washout. Had it been raining or right after storms, it may have been impassable, especially alone. Check out this site for more regardinfg the washout/closure: www.delawarecanal21.org/
Last August, I did most of the Lehigh portion with a friend and the trail was under construction around Northampton. We did some riding through briar bushes and overgrowth for a couple miles. I think there was a detour on the roads but we didn't know that way and chose to just go through the rough stuff. Not sure if it's still like that or not.

How do you bike from Jim Thorpe to Weissport? The D&L website says the new Mansion House pedestrian bridge is closed and they recommend using a shuttle. I'd rather not use a shuttle if there is a way to bike through.

      Hey,
So headed south coming out of Lehigh Gorge State Park, you want to cross the river on the main vehicle bridge in Jim Thorpe. Turn out of the parking lot on to Rte 209 heading up the hill towards the bridge. Make a right onto the bridge which is Rte 903. Once you are across the bridge make a right onto West Front Street. Go all the way down the hill to the Grocery Store, Jim Thorpe Market. At the edge of the grocery store parking lot following the river there is a dirt road, head down the dirt road parallel with the train tracks, cross the tracks eventually and start looking down the hill on the right for a rough trail to take you down to the D&L. Just keep hugging the river and moving down stream and you will find the way. It is possible to ride through, and there are some hidden gems and single track in that stretch of trail.
