  • An intimate look into the mind of abstract artist Callen Schaub and the imaginative world of paint and color he has quite literally immersed himself within. Following Schaub, as he embarks on his most expansive project yet - a 20x10 foot canvas connected to a flying trapeze of pouring paint - Chasing Rainbows is a short but vibrant portrait exploring color, emotion, imagination, inspiration, and what it means to commit oneself to the everyday life pursuit of the spectacular.

Callen Schaub is an abstract artist based in Montreal, Canada. He is recognized for his vibrant paintings using trapezes, pendulums, and spinning machines. Schaub openly shares his painting process with viewers and inspires fans everywhere to participate in his "Fake Art" movement. With paintings hanging in collections across the globe, Callen continues to make the world a more colorful place, one artwork at a time.
Maximum Brauch (b. 2000) is a Toronto-based filmmaker, currently studying film production at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University in Montreal. Though still developing his artistic voice, Brauch has already received recognition for his films. His work was selected as part of the TIFF Next Wave Jump Cuts Festival, and he won the Emerging Youth Artist Award at the Toronto Youth Short Film Festival, as well as the Graduating Student Award at the Lake- shorts International Shorts Film Festival. He has also received two Scholastic Arts and Writing Award Gold Keys for Dramatic Script and Photography.

As someone who has experimented allot with abstract painting and taken a huge amount of inspiration from Callen he is paving the way for a new art movement, the negative comments show you are on the right path, nobody does anything different or new without making waves!
Also I can tell you from experience these quick and easy looking techniques are astonishingly difficult to execute without everything looking like a brown muddled mess, people just can’t appreciate the behind the scenes planning practice and experimentation
Never change Callen, do what you do no matter what!

The comments at 1:41 were hurtful and without forethought. As a fellow fluid artist who is aware of the planning, prep & expense, I feel gratitude for what you bring to the table. The pour over the comments was a great way to transform. Something else you bring to the table in your work is great visual abstract perspective and balanced compositions - something rare in the abstract world. One of my chief pet peeves in the fluid art world is seeing pretty colors on the canvas without golden ratio or perspective. So thank you, young man for the inspiration and sharing your self so well.

I just knew about your art this morning. And scrolling through your Instagram posts was inspiring enough to keep me going as an abstract artist. I think the art world is a sacred space for me to express myself without thinking about others' judgements. Wishing you all the best in your life.

I find that the only thing it takes to love your work is to accept it. There isn’t a lot of art that works in such a simple way, yet can be so challenging in terms of how art is stereotypically judged. The willingness to accept you work for yourself, with a process for yourself is such an amazing open door into your world. I love that your paintings are eternal representations of 10-20 seconds of movement, sometimes less. There’s something about being able to pinpoint them so specifically to a timeframe that adds such a unique flare to each one. It feels like they are memories. I’ve got great respect for your art and you as a person. Keep it up, and try not to be so hard on yourself. And when you are being hard on yourself try to remember that your art, words and attitude helps me be easier on myself. Great mini doc, and happy birthday!

I love how big your canvases have gotten. I love your paint splattered clothes, your hair, your studio! You are living the dream! Art is anything that makes the viewer glad they viewed it simply because of its appearance. Your ART gives me hope, comfort, awe, wonder, joy, satisfaction, anticipation, excitement, the list literally goes on and on. I have shared links to your channel with friends and family. As a new artist myself I have come to realise that art is subjective. Some I love, some I like, some are "meh". I am one of those who's first thought was about the amount of paint wasted, although I never commented about it. Having said that, I fail to see how it would be possible to create your artworks any other way. In my own art I love vibrant colours and contrast and that's most likely why yours appeals to me. My greatest inspiration to date has been a French artist by the name of John Beckley and now I'm seeing inspiration in your work. While I don't paint the way you do, and most likely won't, I would most certainly be lying if I said I wasn't inspired. Speaking for myself, I have found art to be very therapeutic and very beneficial when it comes to dealing with my stress, anxiety and depression. I thank you for sharing your creations online. 😃

Dear calling... I understand what you say painting by feelings.... I recently lost my wife a 25 years to cancer and you talking about feeling his color for months all I saw was rage red the painting you have the first one you show at 59 seconds was my mind for nearly 3 years........ Hearing someone who understands I appreciate it... Sorry if this is a Downer ... I understand fully when you mean that things don't seem to be getting any better from someone who's lost a person they love.... But what you're doing is making people smile and making people smile when they're on their verge of their own destruction... Is something I thought you should know you are a talented person please keep that in your mind .....,thank you so much
