I could listen to you endlessly, the Big Apple of the late 70s and early 80s must have been breathtaking. The photos of Alvin Baltrop, Peter Hujar and many others pop up, while you're reminiscing... thanks for the memories!
Thank you for such authentic and vivid stories of NYC of those times! It's just like a friend tells you about his nightclub adventures last weekend... but that was 40 years ago)))
I always wanted to see the Hellfire club. It's so cool you worked there. That place sounded more relaxed and like nobody cared why you went there, unlike the places that were around here.
@@manparrishstories Yeah, it's a shame. My own kid (f to m trans)needs a place other than online or conventions to get together with like minded people, something like this would be great. I hope things get cooler again. He's in a state where there's nothing like this.

This is some fascinating testimony! Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I was wondering if you had the opportunity to watch that Al Pacino movie "Cruising" from 1980? Much of it was filmed in New York City's meat-packing district. The leather bar where a lot of the action was shot is Ramrod, and apparently many of the extras in the bar scenes were regular patrons there. What do you make of these scenes? Does the movie strike you as authentic? Does it capture the true ambiance of those old NYC leather bars?
Well, some of it was filmed there, and the rest was filmed in the hellfire club, which back in that day, was directly across the street where I lived, and I used to work down there. It was as close as they can get to being accurate I guess but it was actually much worse. Lol but very cool at the same time!that stuff, unfortunately will never happen again, but when it was there, it was pretty amazing!
I love that quote from the 'drag-wear shop" .."Lee Understands!...."...IM DONE😂😂😂😂😂😂😂...man, I bet they saw every kinda lawyer and police chief, from here to God knows where, coming thru there. Oh, man..that was funny. I wonder if they ever had an Ed Koch sighting😬. My Dad lived in NYC for 30 plus yrs..and he told me, the cabbies he worked with, used to call him "Miss Edwina", 'cuz they all knew he was gay. And some of them would tell these stories about dropping escorts off at Gracie Mansion and what have you. I think more than anything they were feeding an honest rumor that was already out there, about ol' Ed.
Ha ha ha that sounds awesome. I'm not into fetish stuff but obviously I crossdress or whatever, I mean it's different times now and yes people do the most weird and wonderful things to get enjoyment out of life and good luck to them 😊
Hey darling… I come from a time when tradition cross dressing was really taboo. It’s so common now that it’s actually nothing. I marched in early pride and liberation parades so I’m glad our efforts have made it easier for people today to live their lives as they wish. Keep doing whatever you’re doing and be happy with it!
I am 55, a kid from Brooklyn . I jam out to your music on the daily.
You are an incredible story teller 😍 I could listen to you forever!!!

Ah the good old days! Glad I got a lil bit of it. Wish I was more adventurous then 😮. Thx for the stories. They have to be told and recorded!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hopefully a new series talking about all that.. fingers crossed!

It was a much more liberal time back then. Those places would never be able to exist today because somebody might feel “uncomfortable” about it lol.

JUST Liked & SUBCRIBED, incredible stories.
I had no idea what 14th st was like in the 1970s and 1980s until I read Mapplethorpe’s bio. Wow just wow 😯
Not joking, you have stories for days 👏

I wonder if Richard Cottingham the New Your “time square torso killer” was hanging out there???
New York, the City that never sleeps. Ain't no lie about that statement.
