  • Phillies comeback vs Mets in the 9th inning against Billy Wagner. Completed a 4 game sweep. Just after the 10:00 minute mark Gregg Dobbs hugs Jayson Werth and yells something that I can't understand followed by some profanity. Harry Kalas with the call.

Don't sleep on the current team. They have a couple 100 million dollar pitchers in Nola and Wheeler and actually have a good pitching coach for the young guys. Charlie is the hitting coach and we actually have a good head coach....Harper, Realmuto, McCutchen, Gregorius, Hoskins, Segura, Bruce...it's a pretty awesome line-up in terms of offense.

Same with the Yankees, who won the World Series almost every year, beginning in the mid 90's, until that ended in 2001, save for when that main core broke through for one last hurrah against the Phillies in 2009. The 96 team winning the whole thing was by far the best success story, since it was the first time when many new fairly fans who were just getting into baseball (including myself) witnessed them doing so, and were destiny's darlings that one time. The fact that they did so when literally NO ONE picked them to go all the way that season, and despite having the league's highest payroll for the first of many seasons in the end, you can say had no real superstar for that particular entire year. Just a bunch of very good players who cared, and played the game right, unlike today. 🙁

They have offered Murphy a qualifying deal, but it's mostly because they don't expect him to take it and they will get a draft pick, which I hope they use to pick up some more young talent, maybe an infielder who could play third if Wright is injured.
Guys I expect to continue growing are Flores, Conforto, Lagares, D'arnaud, Plawecki, etc.
They still need 1 or 2 big time free agent signings this offseason. Granderson had one hell of a year but he's aging.

The game that turned the Phillies franchise around for 4 years...until Game 5 2011 against St. Louis. This game cemented Billy Wagner's legacy: costing the Phillies a playoff appearance in 2005, and then his appearance here ended up being the difference in costing the Mets the playoffs/division in 2007.

I've never enjoyed watching a ball player as much as I enjoyed watching Utley. First off, look at how calm he always looks during the most intense moments. The lefty vs. lefty matchup should favor Wagner here. But Utley's ability to put the bat on the ball was legendary. I obviously couldn't remember what was going to happen here, but throughout that AB I knew Utley was going to succeed even if it meant a walk. You could just sense it. His approach at the plate, his ability to make contact were maybe the best I've ever seen. Definitely in a Phils uniform

I always found it odd how there are no highlights of the first 3 games on RUclips, especially the second and third game that had some memorable moments, like the Aaron Rowand half swing infield hit that stayed fair which tied the game, the Ryan Howard walk off home run in extra innings, the Marlon Anderson interference slide to end the game that prevented the runner on third from scoring to tie the game.

I was at this game over the left-center field fence. Howard hit a HR that went almost right over our heads, opposite field. It was an unbelievable game, series, and ultimately season with this game marking the defining turning point that would lead to the Mets' historic collapse and the Phillies 1st Division title in 14 years. Everybody was clutch in this game, and Burrell had a huge HR that tied it up in the 9th. He continued to have Wagner's number, always crushed him.
Utley was his usual clutch self, and everyone will be looking forward to him getting inducted in 2024 on the first ballot into the Hall of Fame. He has the highest WAR, JAWS, and 7-Year Peak WAR of any player currently projected to be on that list that never did steroids (and he is even way higher than many players who are known to have used steroids in most of those by a good margin), and it's not really close

Charlie Manuel managed a dominant team in the late 2000s and early 2010s. It's kind of interesting how they diminished during the playoffs every year (excluding 2007, when they were swept in the NLDS by the Rockies). In 2008, they won the World Series. In 2009, they made it to the World Series, but lost to the Yankees. In 2010, they made it to the NLCS, but lost to the Giants. And then in 2011, they lost to the Cardinals in the NLDS.

8:44 so much great imagery. Ball just gets under Delgado’s glove, Iguchi is BUSTING IT on contact with 1 out, Chavez’s throw is honestly just half a second late, the whole dugout is basically on the field knowing Iguchi is beating the throw, Burrell is the first one to hug Iguchi and runs over to Utley and of course my favorite , Wagner walking off of the mound.

I was at this game, took half a day from work to go. Will never forget how LOUD the place was in the 9th inning! Looking back, this was basically where the whole great run got started.

I remember this game pretty well. I used to work 2nd shift and I did everything in my power to get xm radio to listen to this game at work. Unfortunately, I didnt live in the philly area at the time and had to find someway to listen to the series. Was so happy to have xm radio.

Ahhhhhh.....Harry Kalas' soothing voice, poor video quality, a packed Citizens Bank Park, and the Phillies were a great baseball team. Makes me feel so nostalgic to when I was a little kid watching the Phillies every night before I went to bed. Hopefully, we get things turned around soon. Great farm system and we just signed two big free agents in Carlos Santana and Jake Arrieta. Hopefully, we can get things like they were 10 years ago.

Rollins, Utley, Howard, Burrell, Victorino, Werth, Rowand, Ruiz, Iguchi, How can Phillies fan forget them? This was the best Phillies hitting bunch ever!!!

It was at that moment that the Phils began arguably the best 5 season stretch in their history. Also, I miss hearing Harry call games, he was the best to ever do it.

What was truly funny about this sweep was that just the week before, the New York Post Mets beat writer wrote an article stating that the East Division race was over.

Fun video. Tad Iguchi was a great trade deadline acquisition that season for the injured Utley. You can hear Harry note that Utley had just returned from the DL. The active roster probably had just expanded to 40. Werth was so good at stealing second and third consecutively. There’s another video showing him stealing second, third, and home against LA. The Phils were near the start of like four straight seasons of home sellouts. We disliked Wagner ever since he ripped the home fans in 2005 for playfully booing when the radar gun “only” registered 99 rather than 100 and he took it personally.

Not Phils or Mets fan, but I remember watching this game on mlb.tv but back then they didn't have Phillies tv feed. They had the Mets tv feed then. But I remember that being a crazy game. I wish someone had video of this game in it's entirety.
