@@GPLaps Yes, I have Cranehead as my steam name and also now in RBR (I'm planning to take part in the next round of SRM) and Cranehead is actually just my last name translated to English :). But it was nice to race with you and your community as always!
17:57 this has got to be *the* very best corner in the entire video . Somewhat deep entry but great turn in, amazingly drawn out arch right towards the apex, and a perfect exit. Absolutely textbook.
There is no other racetrack with a concept as fascinating as the Gesamtstrecke, bypassing the Start/Finish-section twice in only one lap. Old Monza with the Oval comes close, but this massive track right here... unbelievable when you do races long enough to always have oncoming traffic whenever you pass by Start/Finish!
The Monza Combined circuit reminds me of a Hot Wheels track with how ridiculous it is. I don't think crossovers will ever stop being cool to me. The Gesamstrecke is a close second, though my mind was personally more occupied with how the crews could have possibly managed with such a tiny working area (speaking as someone who has no idea what the paddock setup was truly like in period).
@@mitchell-wallisforce7859 you mean the Historisches Fahrerlager? There are pictures of it. Been there during the classic day's. It's quite big. Think some cars where even parked and worked on back then at the hotel parking / garage even.
Great video, as always. Going sideways through every corner of this vintage fever dream while having a chill and enjoyable talk is quite a skill. Also, props on the reasonable German, too
Great racing! These were slow enough to allow near door-to-door racing but remain completely engaging and challenging to keep on track. I have a desire to see you race the BRE Datsun 510 in a period-correct event!
thx for this post - i just got my 50th nordschleife anniversary - lived my first laps in my mumys tummy spring 73 - you should follow the 24h race this year: 20/21 of MAY - much love from switzerland - keep up doing you stuff
dad had the 1600 BMW - i have many pictures of the track from the time after renovation - when the side of the track was still brown instead of green - cause it was a hot summer and grass came back slowly - some parts looked naked - it was dusty
Hey GP. Great piece of driving. My wife is German and when she was little she road in those BMWs with her dad. We're planning on a trip to Germany and we're gonna try to get on the nord.
AMS2 has totally changed my perspective on sim racing. I was a massive AMS1 fan and bought AMS2 on release day. Initially I wasn’t impressed. But over the last year or so I’ve stopped obsessing over realism and just started having fun. AMS2 is just an absolute blast to drive. And because of that it’s the sim I open the most often these days when I want to race offline or host a private lobby for a friend or two and some AI.
Nice one! I've only driven the pre-revision version of this track in AC, but this safer version is still quite nice and preserves some of the scenic views we miss in the modern version of the Nurburgring!
Yes! I really would love to see that! Generally fifties cars are totally underrepresented in Sims! The most amazing option at the moment is the RF2 50s touring car mods with Dundrod, and the Isle of Man and other legendary and very well made tracks! Also the physics in RF2 are the best by a long shot!
what is fantastic about this track in now there are 5 classic f1 tracks to throw the 60s f1 cars around on. Hope we see a classic monaco at some point. I think a classic 60s watkins glen and zandvoort would really round out the 60s content well.
if you left foot brake lightly during corner entry you will have less over streer and more traction in exit, also you are downshifting 1 gear too mcuh in some corners, keep in 3rd more often! love the content
Looks like great fun. Most of my sim racing I do on rF2 on the Nordscheife, but I used to enjoy racing the AI in Ams2, it's a great looking sim. I've been out for 1½ due to an injury, but I'm looking forward to getting back at it. Really enjoyed the video, can't wait to razz the little Beemer round the "together track"
fun race ! really amazed by the enjoyable driving while you seak ! I don't if it would be difficult for the ams2 dev team to add an early 60's version of that track ! that would be terrific !
Oh I guarantee my dad didn't pay quite a few times he camped there. when he was stationed in Germany. Think he rolled a split window beetle there as well. Have some awesome shot he took of the ring. Got quite a few of the big hill just down from the pits. So beautiful. He met James Garner when they were filming Grand Prix as well. Ill have to post a video of me going through all my dads old photos.
youtube corner is the exit of "brünnchen" - and yes you can smell the barbecue there. still one of the hotspots to watch. i always camp at schwalbenschwanz - around the 2nd, shorter banked curve and walk over the kompressions & jump "pflanzgarten" back to "brünnchen" and even further - the elevations never get to you until you have seen them for real....
Oh My Gosh i sure enjoyed this video .... great stuff !!! Your channel is the best for us Gearheads ... been a fan of your channel for quite a while now !! 👌👌👌🏁🏁🏁
I think I'm "finely" going to learn the Nordschleife, love those little Beemers too. AMS2 knows how to do these tracks right IMO, wish they had a better selection of cars though. Hearing you speak German was pretty cool!
For not having spoken German in 10 years or so, you sound rather good I'd say! It'll keep coming back once you use it more👍 Also kinda bummed I missed out on this, only saw the notification go up when I had to jump out of my righ right before you were set to start. Hope I can join next time!
I am seriously thinking about getting this DLC, As Nürburgring is my Fav track, And I am yet to still try a vintage version of this track, I think watching this have made me want this DLC, You might of sold a DLC for AMS2 lol, Nor jokes aside I don't know this version of this Nürburgring, And it be interesting to try the old F1 cars on this track, It takes a lot of skill to keep the older cars on the track I do know that.... Good little video bro..........
There may well have been some more minor renovations by this point, but to my knowledge, the big round of modifications came in the run up to 1973, much like Zandvoort. Germans are nothing if not literal. Crackers are "crunchy bread". My sister has backed off on it, but for a while, she was raising her 2 boys heavily bilingual: English/German. Fangio was dipping his tires off everywhere during his drive in the 1957 German GP. Yeah, I bet Austria was wonderful. I have been to Salzburg at least. Where aren't you sliding it? I mean, really... That's what it's all about. Having fun...
Great video and race! I wonder if the other two where commentating and making a video at the same time!? It would take all my concentration just to stay on the track :)
Historical musicologists research old performance practice to try and determine how did Bach hear his music hundreds of years ago… Reiza, Fat Alfie, etc are doing the same for us motor racing fans - their research using any old footage etc, hard work, and artistic ability are giving us a valuable record of what it might have felt like to drive these old lost tracks. Or, to do silly stuff like drive modern cars on old tracks, or old cars on modern tracks. What a time to be a sim racing fan! 😀

AMS2 with it's classic tracks and cars has always interested me. I tried the demo and I really was put off by it. Interesting to hear the Demo isn't a good representation of the game anymore. The other problem though is I barely play R3E as it is so another sim I hardly play seems like not a great buy. Then again I really enjoy the Nurburgring but have never driven this Historic layout of it.

Well fought battle from both you and Crane. Hopefully next time I finally nail that final chicane. 😉
Hi, i'm Cranehead and thank you for the race. This car and track combo is amazing and was made even better by the great racing we had!

Ligas
