  • The Digital Accordion can do several things that a traditional accordion can not do. On the other hand there are some things that the acoustic accordion does better. I made a detailed video to discuss my perspective on the different topics in which the acoustic and digital accordions perform differently and one outperforms the other.
This can be useful for anyone that is considering a purchase of a digital accordion to add to their collection of accordions. It can also be useful for someone who's debating whether to purchase an acoustic or a digital accordion.
    Accordions used for demonstration!
    1) Petosa Artista pro xt 2019 LMMH 41/120 double tone chamber with voce armoniche a mano (hand made reeds)
    2) Bugari Evo Haria P41 digital accordion

Nice. Probably Bugari will be my next accordion.

This was very helpful, thank you! When planning to buy an accordion, should I consider the climate I live in? You mentioned about the acoustic accordion being more sensitive to heat, and I'm worried that in the summer temperatures could be high enough to affect my accordion. Is it very common for the wax to melt, or should I not let it affect my decision?

Hello Maja, the acoustic accordions have wax in them. You should be good as long as the temperature is under 60 degrees C or 140 fahrenheit. This usually happens when you leave the accordion in your car on days that are hot. The temperature in the car can easily get you 50-75% hotter than outside temperature.

Thank you for this video. It was very helpful. I was not able to find the site you talk about programming sounds. It's probably my mistake... Can you write it down? Thanks in advance 😊

The two options for buying user program groups are Richard Noel and Michael Bridge.

@BreezyBellows you also said something about a web site of your (former?) teacher about programming. Am I right? If so, could you please share the link? Thanks 😊

Did you mean the GR8 IDEAS community founded by Joseph Natoli? I still take lessons from him. This is the website. It has a lot of great resources for digital accordions. www.gr8ideas.org/

What is the name of the beautifull french song you are playing at 3.30 ?

You mean the polka or the song I played after it? The polka is called Giuletta Polka. The waltz is a Russian song called French Card.

Re: bellow shake. Corey Pesaturo would disagree with you. He can actually do a triple bellow shake on his FR8X. I'm not great at bellow shake, even on acoustic, but with some small adjustments I'm able to do basic bellow shake similar to what you did, but better. But yes, it's harder work on the FR8X.

Cory Pesatuto does his bellows shakes on a FR-7x. Last time I spoke with him, he said he hates the Fr-8x. I've been told that the bellows shakes are possible on a FR-7X but is harder to do than on an acoustic. I haven't played a FR-7x so I can't comment on that. It's such a shame that the bellows don't act like an acoustic wrt bellows shake. With orchestral sounds, it will be a great option.

With the exception of sound quality every issue that claims an acoustic is better than a digital accordion in the video depends solely on the musician playing the instrument. Sound quality in a $6000 digital accordion is better than in a $2000 acoustic accordion.

      The other issues mentioned are
      1) dependence on battery or power outlet
      2) bellows action being different because of pressure sensor based mechanism (as opposed to airflow through reeds)
      3) harder to do bellows shakes.
All three are characteristics of the digital accordion. Not sure what the musician had to do with this
