  • Here is the formula for finding the blues scale which works in this musical setting:
    1. Find the target of the ii V I
    In this setting that will be the IV chord in a blues.
    2. Find the relative minor of the target chord.
    3. That will be the blues scale you play.

    Here is an example in a C blues:
    The target is the IV chord. That will be F7
    The ii chord is G minor7 and the V chord is C7
    The relative minor of F is D minor
    The relative minor is the 6th degree of a major scale.
    Play a D minor blues scale over G minor7 C7 F7
