Why Do Skittles Do This In Water?

- In this video I show you an awesome trick to do with skittles. You place skittles around a plate and then pour water on them to make this awesome trick happen. You let the water dissolve the sugar and coloring in the skittles. Then the sugar and coloring begin to diffuse into the water. Since the sugar water is denser than the water it moves toward the lowest portion of the plate quickly. This is why you see these nice streaks of color. Diffusion and gravity work together to make this trick awesome! I describe how the diffusion of the coloring and sugar follow Fick’s law of diffusion. Then I describe how convection is much faster than diffusion.

I can't wait to do this with my son he's going to love it he's going to think it's so cool
Such wholesomeness
I hope he’s happy with that experiment!
I hope he liked it

I love when RUclipsrs are both entertaining and educational!

this reminds me of doing science experiments in class
we used to mix milk and soap with a Q-tip and I was a explosion

Yes only difference is my school has gas taps and science labs
I came here to do this experiment in class.
what I'm wondering is if the water tastes like skittles
Yes it did and it was good:) Watch again and you can hear me lick my finger after I swirl the water, lol.
this is satisfying
Silverness48200 yes a little bit
ActionLab Vlogs yep I heard it.
I think the steering and confining effect of adjacent diffusing Skittles keeps the coloring of each one headed for the middle. There is nowhere for the sugar/color to go if you are shoulder-to-shoulder with another unit. What happens in a plate that is dead flat in the middle?
Brilliant.. Can't wait to show this to my kids.. This is gonna make them fall in love with science. Thank you. You Rock.
I love explanation videos like this. I don't want to just do the experiment. I want to know why things work the way they do and my kids do too!
We tried this and it was awesome! Thank you for explaining it! Awesome
On one year the final national chemistry exam in my country was to track the spread of the colors of skittles in water.
They had to cancel it quickly after because some of the students ate the skittles, even though the instructions forbade it because they were expired
wtf country was that?
I love how every red touches the purple awesome
awesome video!
I'm gonna try this next Halloween
1:33 look at the middle it looks like its going inside the plate😲
Awsome man! I really wanna know what the water tastes like hahaha
Fun fact: skittles all have the same flavour it’s just the different scent tricks your brain
@@OGxNoxu I am okay with this since they taste good
hey this was a great video. NICE JOB!
I'm so glad I found this channel!!! You rock! 😋
looked like an optical allusion.did he have da munchies?lol video ended at 4:20

Modern art masterpiece
Wooow..that's amazing..woow look at the colors....wow that's amaaazing...wow

When you bring your phone to school and you show the teacher this the teacher I have lost all sense of strategy and this is satisfying and it's 3D
Thats so cool
Will soon have it on my channel 😊. Thanks for sharing.
I’m impressed with the word Propagate
Where is the most concentrated area of colour pigments at the beginning?
I'm I wanna know if the movement of the molecules is random why do they go inwards and not like some of them inwards and some of them outwards??
TASTE THE RAINBOW!
thanks that helped me in my science
Which type of change it is
On a related subject, when you get half sweet and half unsweetened tea at the convenience store, get the unsweetened part first, then top off with the sweetened. It will mix itself quickly as the denser sweetened tea drops towards the bottom. If you do the opposite, they won't mix themselves
Or just blow bubbles with your straw to mix it.
It is amazing
Dude, start the vlog up again! Hahaha
I actually tried that in school it was so good
This is so satisfiting
Drown the rainbow.
Taste the rainbow.
You should spin the plate really fast
Convection ruined the rainbow!
I'm watching my grandkids tonight. They will love doing this. Thanks
Wow!
Am I the only one who's stoned ?

I went through 2 weeks of chemical lab safety training at my school FOR THIS

what happens if you squish them with your fingers? Does it lose shape?
Since you love science so much then why don't you be a science teacher ?
Teacher is a horrible thing
Since I love science as well, why TF am I still a student :(
@@Abid_Ibn_Ashraf trust me it's not
IDK why u thought like this
@@HolyG-sus It doesn’t pay well and in many areas you can’t join a teacher’s union. You HAVE to be in it for the kids.
@@samuelbrice3699 sad life
Gravity is responsible for those color trails
2:22 yes indeed
Why didn’t go towards the outside of the plate
Before the Action Lab was The Action Lab.

To say of what is that it is not, or of what is not that it is, is false, while to say of what is that it is, and of what is not that it is not, is true.
Taste the rainbow 😏
it looks like a hole illusion
Guyssss
Skeet those feet and yeet
Can you summarize the video in the comments? I have to do this for school
sus
bruh its 4 minutes. just watch on 2x speed and it will be two.
and yes i k this was 6 months ago
This isn’t diffusion it’s osmosis
Fun fact: If you put skittles in a cup, wait for the color to drain, and then mix it, you get fake diarrhea!

I don’t have any friends, tho.😔

hey man, you got the thumbnails down to a science, but if you want more views you gotta work on your clickbait titles. just a friendly headsup. think of the google search algorithms. nobody is ever going to search "crazy skittles rainbow trick"
its not clickbait tho
read it again dumbass
hes not doing this for the views at least thats what it seems like
the cringe is leaking out of them
Is anyone here
