Very good point. I've always defended SW, but based on myself only. Slimming world is great for guiding in losing weight (for some, of course), but not for teaching how to eat after.... Great if someone has good habits and only looking for a temporary fix, then improving the old habits after. Not so easy if the old habits are a big problem. Thank you for sharing
The reason diets will ultimately fail is that people don't make permanent changes. They find it impossible to make permanent changes. I agree with your detailed analysis of the psychological issues involved. We as healthy humans should be able to override our natural impulses and be guided by our intellect. If not, there are mental health issues and addiction issues so many people need counselling and addiction treatment rather than a diet. Slimming world is a healthy eating plan and can work but it can't solve these underlying psychological issues.
We are animals, we have natural impulses, desires and cravings. Animals will just take what they need, food, a mate, etc. and fight for dominance, etc. They have no discernment, morality or intellectual ability and discretion. Humans have intellect so we do not need to obey our natural desires and can make a choice not to follow a craving whether it be for food or other desires of nature. Some people find it difficult to control their natural impulses but if it results in extreme behaviour, they need treatment as in counselling. Regarding the topic, I could feel a craving or desire for cake or chocolate but decide an apple and a healthy sandwich is healthier and make a choice to eat the apple and sandwich. A mentally healthy human is certainly capable of this discernment and decision. People with extreme cravings e.g. binge eating disorder need mental health treatment for this, not just a diet.

Thanks for your comment. I'm curious... How should we override our natural impulses?

slimming world seems like a weird cult from what i've seen on y t [imo]
It's a diet club... It creates that kinda mentality. People resonate with others who have the same problem.
