Malik Roberts x Bilt Collection Winter '22

Handpicked by the Bilt creative team, this season's artist caught the attention of Bilt for his bold use of colors and deconstructed portraits. Using paints, charcoal, and chalk, our resident artist explores the themes of mystery, strength, and resilience in his one-of-a-kind Bilt prints.
In keeping with this theme our new resident artist, Malik Roberts, sheds light on the dark by creating bold-colored portraits with deep backdrops. Roberts uses his work to bring attention to provocative issues through visual storytelling.
Roberts created two pieces for this season's collection, both deconstructed portraits that convey the diverse tensions and complexities hidden beneath his subjects' surface appearances. The bold shapes, bright colors, and depth of his work present themes of mystery, strength, and resilience.
"A lot of the work I've been creating recently has been about self-reflection. Since we've spent so much time with ourselves over the past two years, I wanted to create a piece that represented how a lot of us might be feeling."
Roberts' signature black background is inspired by baroque and renaissance art, which allows for the subject to stand.
