- I’m not going to lie, this is a really long video, but it has lots of great tech and funny stories from me and my friend Eric. Eric stopped by to help install gears in the Gladiator. The Give-A-Way Gladiator is getting lower gears to help turn bigger tires, and electric lockers to help get more traction. With just a week until the Cal 4 Wheel Drawing, it's now or never to get your raffled tickets so you can win this Jeep.

I’ve watched a lot of gear videos trying to figure it all out, and this is the best one I’ve ever seen. 🎉🙌🏻
Ian with Big Tire Garage just did a really good install on toyota gears.
It was long but I think one of the best shows I have seen on setting up a rear-end.
Long videos, short videos...I'm gonna watch either way.
If I'm not mistaken Eric gets his OSHA approved safety footwear from the David Freiburger collection , eh ? What a great Baja history !
Fred, I'm not going to lie either..I've already watched the long video twice...kind of weird watching you two dig around in the guts of my new Jeep BUT I am deeply grateful for your mechanical wizardry and skill. You called my Jeep a wiener dog before the lift! I might just call it the big red wiener. Thanks for all your hours of work. I am beyond thrilled and have already put 500 (varied speed) miles on her! My son and I are going to take her up to the snow this weekend to give her some mountain time!
Worth the time to watch!
Wow. What a dude. Great video
I love Erick. His humor is quite dry and British, he should visit more often.
Good stuff Fred. Always found gear set up interesting/something good to know. Like button energized.
Hey Fred for torqueing the ring gear bolts on the press I use a couple of 1 foot long pressure treated 4x4. I put the across the base of the press with the carrier between them and the ring gear teeth down on top of the 4x4s. The pressure of the press makes the teeth bite into the wood and the base of the press bites into the bottom of the wood so nothing spins and nothing gets marred up other than the wood. I've done Dana 44s, 60, and Corporate 14 bolt this way on a cheap Harbor Freight press and it works every time.
Thats a great tip!
I love these long videos! Keep it up Fred
I've learned a lot on this video. Good job!!!
i love these long videos
long form, love it
You had me head scratching about the inch pound torque wrench. Good break down. It tells me as an old guy, to find someone younger to do the work.
A good complement to learning about the newer AdvanTEK210/ 220 "D44" axles. Now for me to get good weather and motivation to install the Mopar locker in my JT front axle. Sadly in my gravel driveway, at least when I did my XJ's axles it was on concrete driveway 20 or so years ago.
Thanks Fred very informative I learned alot I need gears and lockers in my tj👍👍
Awesome video Fred! Love that it’s extra long 🤙🤙
This video is so helpful and coming at the right time too! Wanting to put 4.10s in my WJ soon.
Too much fairy dust at 49 minute 😂
That was a great tutorial! Thanks!
I’ve heard rumors of that that guy replacing camshafts in diesel pushers RV’s in parking lots.
ELECTRIC FOOTBALL! I had that game when I was a kid. You lined the players up and turned it on and just watched to see what happened. Pretty boring by today's standards, but it made a ton of noise.
The sperm isn't artificial. 😂
More cars = winning. LOL! :>)
You could’ve simply “Lincoln-Locked” the front axle since it has that passenger axle disconnect for on-road driveability.
Nilocks can be reused. As long as the threads are still good and the nylon is still plyable.
I love to watch professionals at work. Am curious where the footage of searching for tools is? No way you didn’t set a tool down and lose it 30 times during filming.
You couldn't give me a gladiator.
The ring and pinion (could be) compared to a lever and fulcrum. The smaller the pinion gear is the more leverage to the ring gear.
Xj build would be a cool video
Hey Fred, How is the "Poorsha" coming? Dave has all his low riders, you need your little red sporty car. Though I feel like yours would be a little "baja'd" up.
Wow...5 wins..
Interesting about the ring / pinion batches. How many are are talking about here that might match, just the say 8 rings that are currently on a turntable or would be all the batches of that ratio that were made on a shift?
And I'm stuck here with a 3.5:1 ratio on my trooper on 33" 😢 best I can get is a 3.77:1. Guess I'll have to axel swap it🤷♂️
Did anyone win the Rubicon trail trip
what happen to pistol pete
he died in a sxs accident
Fred there's no such thing as a Canadian geese
You all those are Canada geese and not canadian.
