Elburg sounds very German. Because the ending "burg" translates to castle. What we do often here in Germany is that we set something in front or back of "burg" to specify its location, heritage or describe what is special about this castle. So if people hear the name they exactly know which castle it is or which city it is close too or what is special about it. So for example "Wasserburg" means water castle which describes that this castle was build into the water. A castle that is close to where I live calls "Wartburg". Wart is old german and can be translated to high ground with a good view around it. So it means castle that was build on a mountain with a good view.
