I work in a Buddhist majority area, and love showing the kids films like this. Sure, it's not quite accurate, but it's close enough that it gets them interested in asking questions, and looking into Christianity for themselves.

The burning bush scene is incredibly well done. The sense of God's glory, majesty and holiness is beautifully portrayed in that scene (although of course, it still doesn't compare to God's true glory) and the music? Oh my, the music by Hans Zimmer in that scene is just breath-taking.

Fair criticisms. Still it's my favorite animated movie and I appreciate your discernment.
Here are the Hebrew lyrics in the final song:
    A-shir-ra la-do-nai ki ga-oh ga-ah
(I will sing to the Lord for He has triumphed gloriously)
    A-shir-ra la-do-nai ki ga-oh ga-ah
(I will sing to the Lord for He has triumphed gloriously)
    Mi-cha-mo-cha ba-e-lim adonai
(Who is like You, oh Lord, among the celestials)
    Mi-cha-mo-cha ne-dar-ba-ko-desh
(Who is like You, majestic in holiness)
    Na-chi-tah v'-chas-d'-cha am zu ga-al-ta
(In Your love, You lead the people You redeemed)
    Na-chi-tah v'-chas-d'-cha am zu ga-al-ta
(In Your love, You lead the people You redeemed)
    A-shi-ra, a-shi-ra, A-shi-ra A-shir-ra la-do-nai ki ga-oh gaah

All about what the Lord has done!

This is my favorite animated movie, and funnily enough, it came out the year I was born.
I know it's not BIBLICALLY perfect, but it gets a lot more right than you would expect from the company that later made Shrek and Madagascar.
As long as you teach your kids what The Bible really says and don't solely depend on an animated movie, I think it's fine. (Proverbs 22:6.)
I'll watch The Prince of Egypt 10 times in a row before watching Exodus: Gods and Kings.
If you want to talk about Biblical inaccuracy in movies....YEESH!

@armor_x6439 You do not know the heart motivation of everyone that worked on the film. For us to live in a world fallen a movie telling a biblical story for childern doesn't have to perfectly portray every detail to be effective. Yes it would be nice to have the film drive home certain points with clarity & Simple straightforwardness but it is not required to be God honoring & exhalting & glorifying.
We Hersey Hunters can benefit from considering a nuanced perspective.
I appreciate this video for highlighting were the movie gets it wrong because it trains me to be sensitive to misleading representations of God but the film also had accurate reflections of what's in scripture & that should be applauded.

It's one of my favourites by the way. And I'm not sure if it's because of my familiarity with the Moses story when I watched it or because I was young and didn't know much about reformed theology then, but it seemed pretty much God exalting to me

Your last sentence is what the problem is. It's not God exalting. Just because someone talks about God, including Jesus, doesn't mean that He is exalted. Anything that twists the truth of God's Word and gives a different message than what God gives, is not exalting Him.

WWUTT, sometimes you are just *exhausting.* Yes, the movie takes liberty as most movies have. But we still have thr voice of God commanding Moses, and the climatic parts of the movie still show God's power. The music in the movie comes into play and recalls the burning bush scene in those intense parts.
The movie doesnt present itself as Scripture, but a retelling of a popular story within culture which comes from the Old Testament. Its more biblical than most of the movies you have today, and holds up exponentially well.

One problem with those who claim to be Christian is that they think that anything with an ounce of Bible in it must be good. Having taught for a short while in a Christian liberal arts college, I was surprised by those in the arts. Those who were readers, poets, musicians, in drama, writers, etc., who sincerely thought it was ok to write a poem or song or play that was not what God said in His Word. Just as long as it "sounded" good and it was "close enough".
I was not popular when I told them however and in whatever form you portray God's Word, you absolutely must be accurate. It is God's Word! You don't have the right or the authority to change one letter of God's Word.

Pastor Hughes, I understand your criticisms, and to an extent, they are fair in that Aaron should have been a bit more proactive in helping Moses, and that there was a bit of liberation theology that didn't belong in the historical setting.
But where I reasonably disagree with your criticism of the Prince of Egypt is that contrary to your argument, this movie does most everything right when it comes to portraying the Exodus correctly, and it does absolutely phenomenal in regards to staying true to the historical setting and Egyptian beliefs, as well. For example, though you may disagree with the possibility of Rameses and Moses acting like genuine loving brothers, the fact (from what can be said from the Egyptian records) is it's not within the realms of impossibility for them to have both a loving relationship, as well as occasionally antagonistic (adoption, in the Egyptian sense, was also a thing). It's also not impossible for the daughter of Pharoah, Queen Tuya, to also be Pharoah's wife, given that there is plenty of recorded interfamilial romantic relationships within the Egyptian dynasties.
And contrary to your claims, the movie ABSOLUTELY emphasizes the superiority and sovereignty of God. The way it portrays the wonders of Moses as the genuine article, whereas the Egyptian sorcerers have to resort to stage tricks to replicate the same feats, is clear evidence that they did everything they could to portray the Exodus correctly.

But kids who see this movie is impressionable and likely don't know the differences yet. Which do you think is more likely to stick in their minds: something they were read by an adult in church, or a movie with dramatic visuals and musical score?
Granted, their parents should be teaching them as well. But even as adults, I think films naturally are going to stick in our mind more than a text, because a lot more goes into producing them to convey a story than simply writing/typing or reading a text.
Ultimately, we're to guard our hearts/minds from sin, or anything that deviates from God's word (2 Tim. 2:15, Rev. 22:18-19 [specific to Rev., but the principle applies]). That doesn't mean a movie or book has to be 100% Biblically accurate on every detail to be beneficial (it can help us think on the Bible; Php. 4:8), but we should certainly be mindful what we allow to shape our view of God's word.
