You may want to consider putting a small greenhouse on there for your seed starting and overwintering plants since it is lower and has less wind pressure. Love it for you ❤️
How exciting- more space! Maybe consider a fountain or water feature, that would be amazing. pigeons had me cracking up! Can't wait to see what you come up with.
I think hops would be pretty growing on your pergola. Herb garden outside your kitchen door is absolutely going to be fabulous!!!! Love all your ideas you have for your new space. Congratulations!!!! So EXCITING!
What a fun announcement. Very happy for you. I’d start with deciding what type and size furniture you want then go from there. I’d love it if you could show a diagram of your decks. I saw the church in the background, but I’m still confused. 🤣
Awww, the pigeons feel safe around you! So cute how they were peeking behind you! lol That is so exciting to have a whole extra space to expand your garden! I'm looking forward to watching you work your magic on the Garage Deck Garden.
Congratulations on your updated space! It looks like it was all done the right way. Did you have a water spigot put in there? I think a climbing rose that can take some shade is a great idea. I know on the David Austin rose site you can put in what kind of rose your looking for-shade tolerant, good for a pot, etc and it will give you the best ones. All the best to you Bethany!
Thank you so much!! Thankfully there is a water spigot up here. I really feel like I should wait until next year to plant but the urge to put plants out there now is real 🤣
Hands down... Natives. The best solution to a given space and its habitat, is always a pollinator friendly, water-wise bird garden with native plants specific to that region: and for Chicago, I would recommend these five as just a few natives to plant: 1. Black-eyed Susan 2. Purple Cone Flower 3. Jacob’s Ladder 4. Cardinal Flower 5. Golden Alexander
How exciting ! New garden space is hard to beat. I would figure out the furniture first-that's basically your 'hardscaping' in a way. You could take measurements of your set upstairs and use cardboard or painters tape on the floor of the new deck to get an idea of how you might want to place it and how much the footprint would take up-assuming you would want a similar set-up. Oh, and the term you might have were seeking for the damaged wood in your garage ceiling is likely 'joist'.
Great idea and opportunity 🌝👍 I am dreaming of doing something like that on the roof of our tiny garden house 🏠 It's also 20 square meters. Greetings Heidi 👩🌾💕
I’m excited to watch you design your new space. I’m hoping to get some pointers when starting something new. My courtyard garden is almost full so I’ve decided to start developing my side yard more. It’s a small narrow space, but definitely more room for plants & raised beds. I love your herb garden. I have something sort of similar but you grow many more herbs than I do. It’s inspiring. ❤❤🪴🪴
So excited for you! Definitely place your furniture and gazebo first before you even consider the plants. For the trellis how about a clematis? Or a beautiful climbing rose? Can’t wait to see how this all unfolds!
This is great, and giving me future ideas when I can redo my 2nd floor deck with 1st floor porch underneath. You can start sourcing furniture any maybe put alerts for when they go on sale? Holiday season is coming up and you may be able to get what you want at a decent price. Ps those pigeons were so unruly lol
This is so exciting 🎉 Honestly, I think a climbing rose would be beautiful at the pergula. And if you design the place so that it’s less maintenance you probably can easily use this deck for relaxing as you don’t see a million things that could be done once you‘re on there 😉
Wow! This is so exciting for you. I can't wait to see it in use. I didn't say "finished" bc gardens are never finished, are they? Coleus and begonias have done very well on my shady deck. It kind of looked like the pigeons were flying out of your hat. lol
I am so excited to see you turn out that new garage space into something beautiful. I was off RUclips for a while taking my breath, but you have been busy in a good way and I’m happy about that. I’m sure it will be lovely by next year. I have no idea about what plants are good in the winter, but I am sure by then you’ll have many of an idea.
Congratulations on the new growing space. Increasing the number of veggies that you love eating would be great. The butterfly pea flower would look nice on the arch, and you can use the flowers to make tea. I haven't grown it myself, but it's on my wish list.
I am like your zinnias: green with envy. I only have a small terrace, really, maybe not even 8 square meters... sometimes I feel discouraged, but then I remind myself that my balcony is very green, and it's enough. On the arch, you could do like Meg grows plants: punt squash on it! You can check on her channel, it's beautiful, really.
Wow that opens a lot of possibilities! I don’t think it would survive a winter outdoors in your area, but I have been appreciating passion fruit flowers recently as my neighbor grows them along the fence 😂.
This is so exciting! When you said the color theme of white, purple, and pink, i immediately thought of my tower silver asters, they are white and purple and almost glow. they would be so pretty against black. Are you thinking of growing any plants on the pergola at all?
That aster would be perfect!! I’m not sure yet about growing on the pergola. The top will open and close so I’m not sure if it’d be a bad idea for the plants to get that tall on it 😆
Congratulations! Since you said it was off of your kitchen and you are planting herbs there, why not call it the Kitchen Garden and plant all your edibles amongst your flowers and perennials
You may want to consider putting a small greenhouse on there for your seed starting and overwintering plants since it is lower and has less wind pressure.
Love it for you ❤️
That’s a really good idea!!
How exciting- more space! Maybe consider a fountain or water feature, that would be amazing. pigeons had me cracking up! Can't wait to see what you come up with.
I definitely need some sort of water feature bc I’d love to hear the sound of it while on the deck!
Yeah!!! Good stuff to come! Can’t wait to see what you come up with! 🪴💚🤗
💥💥💝 So exciting
Yes finalizing the furniture setup before the plants is a great idea!
I know it’s the best way to do it and I know it’s going to be so hard not to throw plants everywhere first 😆
I am very happy for you, and excited to see what you decide to grow there! I think the pigeons and bumblebee are excited too, LOL! 🤣🕊🕊🕊🐝
They can’t wait for more garden space!
@@ChicagoGardener , LOL!
Great possibilities! 6:10 "Winter in a month" the Chicago gardeners' mindset!
It’s always lurking around the corner 😆
Very happy for you Bethany. I look forward to seeing what you do with your new space
Thank you so much!!
A gardeners dream, more space and the exhilaration of planning!
It’s so much fun!!
I'm so excited and happy for you! It will be fun to see the process.
Thank you!!!

Excited for you that's great!!
Thank you!!
That whole corner is a party with the pigeons and bumble bees😂 you are all business and they are moving and shaking ❤
They’re having a good time in my garden 🤣
Hahaha, right? I was laughing so hard 😄
The new garden should be a dedicated kitchen garden with veg & herbs. My two cents.
PS. Love the new space.
Thank you so much!!!

Excited for you! More plants! 💜🪻💜🪻💜
So many more!!!

Joist, thank you that is what it was 🤣
Hello Bethany,So happy for you. I can’t wait to see it finished. 😊
Thank you!!!
The bumble bee appearance at 12:51 ☺️🐝
I rewatched that part when I was editing 😆
Great idea and opportunity 🌝👍 I am dreaming of doing something like that on the roof of our tiny garden house 🏠 It's also 20 square meters. Greetings Heidi 👩🌾💕
That would be so fun!
That area will make a perfect potager garden
That’s a wonderful idea!

I love that we can always find room for more plants!!!
How exciting more space for beautiful plants 😊
I can’t wait!!!
You 100% have the weather conditions for it. Honeysuckle / Haskaps. Amazing Blueberry like Fruit. Container soil!
So excited for you! Definitely place your furniture and gazebo first before you even consider the plants. For the trellis how about a clematis? Or a beautiful climbing rose? Can’t wait to see how this all unfolds!
I really would love a rose. I feel I’d be less likely to kill clematis though although I’m not sure why 😆

That’s a great idea!!! This will be number one on my list for holiday sales.
This is so exciting 🎉

That would be the dream 😆
How exciting! Brunnera are beautiful and do well in the shade. Also lots of coleus and hostas! I can't wait to see what you do!
I love brunnera! We have some in the parkway and it would look so pretty back here too.
So exciting!
wow, this is going to be so awesome for you!
I’m so excited!!
Wow! How much fun will this be for you next season. Lots of planning over this winter for you.
So much planning!! It will be what gets me through the long winter here.
Wow! This is so exciting for you. I can't wait to see it in use. I didn't say "finished" bc gardens are never finished, are they?
Coleus and begonias have done very well on my shady deck.

They really never are finished 🤣
What popped into my mind was a pair of deliciously succulent Black Mullberry trees! 🤔
Do compact ones exist??
@@ChicagoGardener well yeah if you pick up the art of bonsai trees...some dutiful pruning ought to do it🤔

I’m excited to learn what will and won’t work out here over winter. Hopefully I don’t kill too many plants along the way 🤞

The owners manual for the grill should tell you where to order replacement parts
I’ll look that up online. Thank you!!!
Can’t wait to see what comes next 😊 Thanks for sharing ❤
I’m so excited to see it transform!
Gazebo and pond and dining area.
We were thinking about some sort of small water feature! Going to hunt around at the end of season garden center sales.
❤
What do you think of a rose garden with a beautiful water feature?
I love both of those ideas!!!
So this is another level up from the other decks?
It’s lower to the ground. Garage is at ground level and this is right on top of that. The other decks are two more stories up!
@@ChicagoGardener ohhhh!!! okay, gotcha!
this is going to be soooo good!
