I’m soooo blessed as I travelled on Pan Am quite a number of times in the late and Mid 80’s, as my father use to work for LHR for a security company called ‘Alert Security’, which only dealt with Pan Am. He use to get free airline tickets with Pan Am. Miss those days badly!.

That’s rite, flight 103 was its final mail in the coffin.

One day I was stuck in London Heathrow and a Pan Am 747 called Clipper Maid of the Seas took up the windows of the gate I was at. I took some 35mm pictures of the huge nose on the right hand side. I boarded it and rented the plastic tube headset, took my seat forward of #2 engine at the window. I fell asleep partway across the Atlantic. I awoke to a cheerful piano song called Music Box Dancer and looked out to the Atlantic below. It was late afternoon and the clouds below were golden, purple, and orange. I flew on hundreds of commercial flights and this was by far the finest treat, almost looking like a glimpse of Heaven. I took a few pictures.
I transferred within my company and quit the international travel and ended up buying a house on the West Coast in California. One night around Christmas 1988, the news broke into the broadcast to show the remains of the cockpit of the Maid of the Seas lying on the ground in Lockerbie, Scotland. Profound sadness washed over me. It's going on 36 years after this senseless bombing. Every time I hear the tune Music Box Dancer, tears well up in me to this very day.
