I plant a tree on my neighbor yard last year, I'm going to graft it this year. my whole plan is: A. I don't have to gift her avocados in the mid term future. B. Her tree is about 10m away from mine, I hope it will help with pollination and get more yield This is going my first graft, so wish me luck! Oh I also saw a tree near the train station that had a great yield, and I have a wild tree growing in my yard that it's actually in a good spot, so instead of killing it may just let it be and see which tree gives better avocados, the one I bought and plant almost 2 years ago, or this wilding.
Hey AJ. This information you share is priceless and its so simple..other people want to be so technical but this is very simple. Thanks. I wanted to know if i dont have grafting tape. Can i cover the graft with a plastic packet to keep in moisture?
I had a couple of volunteer avocado trees sprout in my compost pile. So, I grafted both, and a seedling in a small pot, into a sharwil variety and all three took. I bet if you able to get the sharwil onto that multi graft tree it would be great! The Sharwil is one of the best B type cultivars!
Cool grafting, I want to graft a Reed and parent of the Reed I forgot the name. Im in 10a Ontario Ca. How can I get some cuttings? I have a Carmen hass, little cado, Pinkerton and hass. Cool video.
Your success rate could increase with straighter cuts and grafting at the right time of year. A grafting knife is easier to handle without worrying about cutting yourself due to the harder blade. Utility knives flex too much and give you concave cuts. You could also put a paper bag for insulation if you have to graft during the coldest months. That being said, I do enjoy watching your cowboy approach to grafting lol
Hey AJ, I notice that you never use rubber bands in your grafts. I have seen many other people using them to hold the wound tight. Have you ever tried that? Any suggestions on where to get scions?
I've tried rubber bands in the past. I don't notice a difference with or without them, so I don't use them. I have some scions available at the moment. Email me or message me on instagram if you're interested.
@@AJTheGraftMan I lost this link and it took me until just now to find it. I don't have Instagram but I did find your email and will send you one shortly.
From my experience with grafting most fruit trees they start showing flowers in about a year and a half or two years. But that is if the tree is well kept and healthy.
Can you give us a link to the exact parafilm product you are using? The link you provided just brings up anything that amazon sells as parafilm, and most of them are not parafilm. There are a lot of fake ones out there.

Thank you for your kind words. I’ve never tried that method, so I don’t know.
@@AJTheGraftMan ok, thanks for your response 👍

Just so happens this tree is located just a few feet from a mature Sharwil tree. I agree, Sharwil is great!
Nice 👍👍
Hope there was some avocado scions left at the scion exchange for you to do some more grafting this week.
There were none!
Nice ✅
😂ill help u spread the reed and nabal! Send me some scions. Great vid man, i love watching the graphs take.
Thanks. I don’t have much scions available at the moment. I use most of them for grafting projects

What's your source for scions?

Great video, AJ. In your experience, how long does it take for grafted trees to produce fruit?
From my experience with grafting most fruit trees they start showing flowers in about a year and a half or two years.

Thanks Rayan. Depends on the size of the tree you’re grafting onto. Usually takes about 2 years
Good video
Do you know a mature tree with multi grafts?
It would be cool to see a hass and Ota or two different shaped fruits on the same tree
Thanks. Yes I’ve seen some. The first thing that stands out is the different shaped leaves and growth habit of the different varieties
Where can you get scions for grafting?
Can you graft a Hass on to a Wurtz, to get Hass fruit without ending up with with a Hass size tree? I want a wurtz size tree with Hass fruit.
It's possible yes, with consistent pruning.
Where I can buy such tree? Hass on Dusa? I found the nursery Broka but they only sell a minimum of 23 trees. I just need one :D
Some people arrange a group buy from brokaw
@@AJTheGraftMan I end up buying a bulk of trees from Brokaw! Now if anyone interested I can sell them as I only wanted two trees.
@@moalbarazi4802 what varieties did you buy?
@@moalbarazi4802
How much are you asking for each also what city, state are you located?

How can I get some gem trees or scions for my house
Thanks AJ,
Is there a compatibility issue between grafting Type A to Type B or vice versa in Avocado varieties?
No issue

Why are you grafting different types of fruit on one tree.
This way you have fruit all year instead of just once a year. And different types
For increase pollination too i bet
