    I watched so many grafting videos, This is far the best detailed info. Best of all you’re showing the result after several weeks. Some people may not agree grafting with young tree in container but what not to agree if you have successful result.

    Great to watch your video and confirm that I didn't rush it when I grafted onto 1-2-month-old seedlings. I even tried my hand by grafting two thinner scions into a single cleft of a 1-year-old seedling. Holding my breath on that one. One thing I would recommend is to use aluminum foil, shiny side out, around the scion to reflect any unwanted hard light. Might be useful to those of us who can't store the seedling-graft in total shade.

I’ll wait for the stems to grow bigger to try grafting them. I’m going to ask my neighbor for a couple of small branches from her huge avocado tree. Does it matter how old the tree is (where we are getting the branches)? Her tree must be at least 20 years old.

    • @AJTheGraftMan

      Yes you can graft the 2 together.
      Yes you can graft two different types of avocado onto one young seedling tree. I would make sure the seedling's trunk is thick enough to take the side graft. About a 1/2 inch trunk thickness is good.

      Thanks! Sounds like the tree is stressed. I would add some more dirt, pack in the root ball with soil, then water well and keep in shade for a few weeks. Good luck

    Hi, I re-planted my avocado plant in a big wine barrel and kept it in full sun whole day, at first all leaves dried like chips. then new leaves came but they are also dying and again new leaves are coming. Is the plant getting too much wind because it is open area in the backyard and sometimes it is too windy. Should I move it to partial sun where there is less wind. It is 2ft tall tree. I added gypsum also after watching your video. When I bought the tree from nursery we could see the avocado seed which was very healthy but now it is shrinking. How much water should I give that plant?

    Hi mate thanks for your video,if i was to take a cutting off a mature tree how long do i have to graft it onto a root stock?i know were there is a tree but i will have to travel to take a cutting,may be a 3 hour round trip? Thanx

      I’d put it in an airtight ziploc bag. If you’ll graft the same day, just leave it in the bag until you’re ready to graft. Good luck

    what's the point in putting it in the shade and not in the sun?

    • @AJTheGraftMan
      @AJTheGraftMan  3 года назад

      I did this graft in the summer, so the hot summer sun could have dried out the graft, so I put it in shade

    How often did you water it? My avocado rootstock dies and I’m unsure if its too much watering or what.

    • @AJTheGraftMan
      @AJTheGraftMan  3 года назад

      Once every other day because it was in shade and the sun wouldn’t dry it out so fast. If you plant an avocado seed in the right soil, you can water it every day

    • @AJTheGraftMan
      @AJTheGraftMan  3 года назад

      Depends when the graft is done. It will bloom on the next bloom cycle. I did this graft in August and it will begin flowering in April

    Hi, love your video, its very informative and detailed. I have a plant from seed which is 6 months old now like the one u showed in the video. Do i chopped the entire leaves off? Also we have a very old avocado tree which is starting to flower now, can i look for scion in our old tree? Is it ok to use something that is flowering already? Thanks in advance. Hopefully i can show u the picture 😊

    • @AJTheGraftMan
      @AJTheGraftMan  4 года назад +2

      Thanks! I would only chop the leaves off when I’m ready to graft. I have had no success with grafting flowering avocado stems. I would wait until the flowering ends and then graft regular, non-flowering scions. Also, if you live in the northern hemisphere, I’d wait until late February or early March to graft avocado. Good luck!
