Im located in Geelong Victoria
And bought one of these almost 1 year ago from JDM HQ
It's the perfect daily car
I'm 6"5 and weigh well over 100kgs
It's insanely comfortable to drive
It gets a lot of attention
I've lost count how many people have walked up and asked about it, what is it? Where did I get it etc?
It's almost 20 years old and has features a lot of newer cars have, like heated seats, not just the driver seat - EVERY seat
The only downside is my auto boot opener is broken.. Meh push it up myself
I only use my ACS controller to fully drop it for photos, the other 95% of the time it's in 'normal'
Other than it's expensive on fuel because 98 octane and v8
It's the perfect car, it's a toyota, it's cheap to service, if the air bag suspension breaks then chuck coilovers in it
Great car, 10/10 recommend to anyone after a big comfy cruiser
I like this car a lot, I did consider buying one prior to getting my current car (Lexus LS430). Now I am considering a S210 Majesta, they look so nice and modern too.
Thanks for the in depth review man. Got my own 186 on the way, currently going thru compliance. Keen as to get it after watching this ✌️
They are dope man I froth mine aye
Top tip for any of you blokes looking for a crown who are unaware of japans auction history database. You can pay someone from Japan to run the Japanese auction History on the car you're looking at. This will help you make sure you're not getting ripped off and get made aware of any accidents and repair damage. Bought my 186 over a year ago now and was given a fake auction sheet by the dealer I bought the car from. After paying for a second history check after I already owned the car. I found out my car has had a whole front end replacement and a whole quarter panel replacement. Dont trust your dealer and do your own checks!
Wow that's so bad bro but yea very valuable information right there
how do you go about doing that?
did you use an import broker?
Mate! You have hit the nail on the head!! Everything you’ve said it so true and the best honest review I’ve seen so far. You know I’ve got a soft spot for this particular car and seen it’s journey from the auction 😉 search farkin 🙄🤪 I’ve had over 12 months worry free motoring in mine now, and luckily have no dash cracking as been replaced before.
Yeah they are super cars if treated right. My dash has also been fixed before but I'm still missing that front wood trim which I would like but yeah not paying 1700 for it haha that's literally the rest of the blow designs exhaust I want to finish that part off and that's including delivery from Japan haha
how was the dash fixed?
love your honesty, got 04 186 about 4 months from jdmhq and biggest thing is the stereo/radio
Thanks for the detailed review Adam. I’m seriously considering buying a Crown so it’s good to know what to look out for.
Not all upscale Toyotas wear the Lexus badge, wish the s180-s200 majestas had the crown emblem like their athlete and royal saloon counterparts 👑
I know right!? Me too would be really cool I know your can get a Toyota size crown badge for them but I dunno if it would look cheesy
As Patreon member 😁. Can you do a tutorial on removing the whole front dash bro😁
I would love to but like I said in chat brother I don't have a spare crown to do it to and would be terrible idea removing mine and getting all those extra cracks from it. That company should be able to do the crack repairs with the dash in place.
@@AdamLetter no worries fella. If you ever do be a good one for the channel 👍🏽
@@dilvinders1 don't you worry I always have my eye out for a crashed crown going cheap so I can flood y'all with videos like this one 😊
@@AdamLetter that's what I like to hear😁
Dude thanks for the info. Im moving to WA soon and I’m really looking to get one of these. Do you know why some have the crown logo on the steering wheel etc? Kinda confused about all the different models/ trims.
Just added bit of fancy on some models, glad it was a helpful video for ya
Parts for UZS186/187: here in the UK I just go into my local main dealer and order them, they're with me 10 days later..
Just bought one, I’ll let you know how it is IF it gets here with no complications. Love you brother
Hell yeah brother absolutely keep me up to date
@@AdamLetter it’s a 1999 jzs177. Not sure if it’s a c class. The picture shows it low to the ground like it does have bags. Can you tell by the chassis code there if it is c class? Also I’m on the east coast of the US I plan on keeping it for a long time if it gets here okay
@@ForlornAuto if you can I would say it would be through the part website :)
Looking at getting one of these very soon and very excited for it. Just curious what the sound system is like and if there is much options for upgrading it? Thanks keep up the great content
Sound system is really good stock I do find some people at this age have a failing speaker here or there but still slaps. As for asfter market upgrade that's up to you I don't know of anyone doing direct replacements as yet but have been looking around
@@AdamLetter thanks a lot for your response. Can’t wait until I can get one
I’m the owner of the special quartz grey pearl 184 in Melbourne, im a sucker for the V8s tho, big body sedans have my heart.
adam, im so glad you've made this video. I've been thinking about getting a grs184 and this video definitely gives me great insight into crown ownership (despite it not being a 186).
How possible would it be to install the 186 air suspension on a 184? seems like a fever dream, but i'd love to give it a go
I wouldn't waste your time bro it would end up costing probably the same as an aftermarket air system and be wayyyy more confusing and hard. And you would end up with a sub par air suspension kit in comparison
@@AdamLetter good to know, keep up the good work my guy, loving your crown build! cant wait to get mine
So expensive there I just picked up a 50th anniversary auction grade 4 with 90,000km with body kit and rims for $5800 CAD shipped
So that's around 9k AUD that's pretty cheap for all that
Where’d you get it??
just got my grs182 the other day... fucking love it. these cars are beautiful
Mannnn they are sick are 🤗
Hey big Adam, thank you for making another entertaining and in depth video!
I was wondering if you would make a video (when you get the chance) on the various jack points on the uzs186.
:(
I'm glad you enjoy the videos and I sure can 🤗 I'll try get it done asap 🤗
@@AdamLetter good shout on the jacking points.
@@dilvinders1 videos up boys 🤗🤗 specifically covering exactly this
@@AdamLetter link the video bro.
Love the channel Adam, great reviews,
I gotta ask do they run on 91 unleaded or do you need to use 95 octane premium, (aussie fuel)
Thankyou 🤗 preferably run then on 98 but I don't think 95/91 gonna hurt it I mean it's a stock engine not really pushing any power limits
@@AdamLetter cheers man, legend
The first 2 seconds❤
mad video, would u say buying one imported into oz already is alright, I’ve been looking into one for my first car and don’t really want to import it
Yeah absolutely just have a good look and make sure the owner hasn't done any stupid mods to it 😉
Can this be turned into a AWD with snow mode? Or is it strictly RWD?
Na that's not what snow mode does on this version of the 186 BUT there is an AWD version of the 186 they are just very rare and hard to get into Australia
Hey Adam, did you have the chance to test drive one before you bought it? I tried booking a test drive for a uzs186 through JDMHQ but it's still in Japan so I wasn't able to try it out
I found a private seller and drove his but his was an a type and stock wheels etc so wasn't super impressed but still sent it and was very pleased with my choice
@@AdamLetter sweet, thanks for getting back to me mate
I’ve seen a decent few that don’t seem to have any dash cracks at all, is there anything else to look for in terms of problems, also what is the engine life like, haven’t seen really any above 150k kms
I couldn't tell you about engine life but it's a Toyota UZ motor which are renound amazing motors and U won't see any higher than that because most are imported just before 100,000 kms or 150,000 kms as in Japan I'm pretty sure there is some registration costs for cars with higher kms or older ages kinda deal so they ship them over here 😉
@@AdamLetter yeh I’ve definitely heard about that, apparently there rego goes up like 3x after 100,000kms, thanks
@@mixinityy6197 yeah I think it's crazy so they just sell them off
@@AdamLetter yeah I’m just hoping by the time I can afford one the price hasn’t jumped lol, such a nice car
I recently bought a very clean grs180 completely stock and it’s currently on 19”s do you reckon it’s worth bagging it or just going for adjusties?
All depends on budget bags are expensive
i was screaming close your sunroof the whole car wash
Hahahahahaha imagine if it was open and I just got showered on camera haha would have to post it
Bro do you think a 2008 athlete with 30-50k kilometers are mint? Im not sure if theyre rebuilt or not doesnt say. Thank you!
Hard to tell it could be s rare low km orrr dodgy but i would say probably just a rare low km if in really good condition
Why I bought mine with full Airride system...mmmm air up and down goodness...
Oh, one of the positives, which I managed to pick up...the Crown Watch...
Can you get a crown watch for the 186
Hey bro I got a 184 and was wondering if you know if you can replace the disc eject area with a headunit by anychance?
My mates 186 has exactly that done
@@AdamLetterdid he get a replacement kit or did he do it custom
@@zealpodcast738 was done when he bought it but looked custom
Love these things. I have a 206 and just got twin Varexes installed. Not tuff sounding enough so the second cats and resonators come off next week ;)
You in the modern crown owners FB group? I wanna hear it
@@dylantyler6867 I put it up the other day, will do a better one once the cats are off.
What kind of fuel consumption are you getting?
Well full tank (75l) the car estimates 560kms which seems pretty accurate and thats 13.39L/100kms
@@AdamLetter that's not as bad as I thought it would be!
@@DDDDamien and to be honest that's now highway driving half traffic half no traffic and when I was doing no highway driving it was almost the same I think if I was in zero traffic I could stretch to 600kms but yeah it's ok for being able to drive a V8 every day haha
I'd love to get a 184 but I think the insurance would be way too high?
Possibly depends on your situation like age, driving history, where you live etc etc etc mine isn't that expensive but I'm old haha
@@AdamLetter yeah, I'm not that young either :) . Compared to my 09 Camry at 60 a month for full Comp, it would be a lot more hey
@@Gareththedrummer yeah it's probably not gonna be that cheap but U might be pleasantly surprised. Worth a call I reckon
@@AdamLetter definitely worth it. Thanks
You make really good videos I would love for you to go over my 184
Thankyou bro are you in Melbourne???
I'm in Bendigo il drive ether one of my car up to you bro iv got 171 wagon and I get the 184 next Saturday from Melbourne
@@ianaustine6963 hit me with an email brother 🤗 address is in every video description we will try tee something up
Will do bro
I've loved the Crowns for years. I have a 2000 UZS171 but one of the rear air suspension units is leaky. Any recommendations in terms of a coil-over replacement here in Oz?
Honestly I'm a big fan of keeping bags, but if I were to go coils I would go BC or hsd
@@AdamLetter Thanks. Would love to keep the bags but very pricey and/or hard to source. Can you recommend a supplier for BC or HSD?
@@ALFAGOMMA I would just go through their websites and try have a look around for discount codes like I think adamlz might have a BC code maybe
So you gonna slap a supercharger on it 😂 i wanna watch this process 😂😂😂
Already looking for one haha 😄
@AdamLetter ohh yeah keen as to see this! 👀
Is it p plate approved ?
Apparently no but I haven't looked into it coz I'm old af haha
There are a bunch of these stock with low k‘s ore even with wheels for about 5-8k why are some so cheap ?
Where? They are minimum 16k here in Australia
@@AdamLetter if you look them up in Japan I could import one for close to 10k with regi. I’m also from Germany 🤔
Oh yeah in Japan they are cheap as coz they are getting to the year/kms range that taxes like rego are very expensive. And 10k is about the equivalent to 16/17k Aud.
@@AdamLetter ohhhh now I just heard 16k dollars. Hahaha completely my fault 😂 I appreciate the Videos probably gonna pick one soon because your vids convinced me 👌🏽
Didn't see the car once
Feel free to watch one of the other like 80 videos of it :)
