Consider melting the Crisco or Vaseline, then dip the cotton balls in it for more equal saturation (waterproofing) and no mess on your hands. Also, use pork fat lard instead of vegetable based Crisco.

Sometimes things just don’t turn out the way you thought they would

    Chris,
In order for cotton balls to be waterproof, I believe that the cotton balls would have to be saturated with the Vaseline. When you store them for a period of time in a ziplock bag they become saturated. This would make them waterproof.

After the Vaseline is imbedded in the cotton ball, I roll charcoal dust/tiny chunks on it to keep it from being sticky on the outside and provide more fuel to burn.

Can you fry those fungi in the stump in the crisco fire?

I keep a few cans of generic Crisco around for illumination and oil stoves for extended blackouts

Me too. But then I always end up frying fish with it lol

I, honestly, never thought about using Crisco. Thanks

I wonder if you heated up the crisco and put a bunch of cotton balls on it when it's in liquid form if that would really get it in there? Then let them cool down and store in a zip lock bag. Kinda like a fish fry but not as tasty haha.
    God bless you brother.

It depends if you're using the all vegetable or real animal fat shortening. The animal fat shortening burns much better than the all vegetable.

Then mix a little of both together on the same cotton ball and see how that works

Not a proper scientific experiment as you didn't wash or use gloves therefore cross contamination from one to the other.

Also you would need to weigh the samples to insure the same amount was used.
