      Better to have a bad plan than no plan, because you can't improve the nothingness of your thinking. Having a bad plan: you calculated you played with aim, even if bad you can learned from bad plans.
      If you don't know what to do: improve your position by piece activity or pawn structure, or you can think about what are the plans of your openents and make them fail or disrupt the openent pieces harmony, create weaknesses.

    Just started chess four weeks ago, and thanks to your page I didn't lose to a >= 750 elo player for the first time today, I swept through the intermediate bots with only three losses, and beat the "1500" "ranked" bots as well as Pablo and Grandpa Gambit on top of that. I'm a middle-aged guy with lifelong social anxiety; Chess is chipping away at it and jump-starting my competitive instinct for the first time in 45 years of life. Wish I could take personal lessons from you - you've been the biggest, most concise, funniest form of help of all the pages out there.

      You have to think about why your opponent is moving a piece, and check for pins, checks, or discovered attacks.

  • @NN-cc8uo
    @NN-cc8uo 9 месяцев назад +6

    About the first seconds of the video, it's absolutely true. I've seen most folks who play against me have so many games under their belt for several years, but their rating barely improves (we're talking sub 1000 elos with like 1000-2000 games here). If you wanna improve at chess you can't just spam games and hope that you're gonna magically improve some day; you actually have to plan and put in the real work towards improvement

    • @tellahsage6477
      @tellahsage6477 9 месяцев назад

      Spamming games is actually not a bad strategy for improvement at all, it's just that most people do it wrong. If they were playing lots of games at a longer time control, really putting thought into each move, and doing analysis of every game afterwards, they would most certainly get better. The problem is that some people just wanna play a hundred blitz games per day and hit the "new opponent" button instantly every time without caring, and that's no way to improve at chess.

    These are the kind of games that really help. Looking at master studies and chess puzzles is fun, but realizing "no, you're really not that far off from higher ELO conceptually, you just need to blunder less instead of trying to learn advanced tactics" is very encouraging.

    nice finally some hard truth, once i stopped blundering and started playing 15|10 instead of 5|5, i climbed from 800 to 1600 in 3 months. Just play rapid, focus, and youre fine honestly. At this point i still have very little opening theory (like honestly i know one or two random lines in random gambits) and what he says is true. 80% of games (at my elo) end because someone blunders. Yes, me too haha

    To not blunder,you should choose an opening where there are so many plans.

  • @funnyperson4016
    @funnyperson4016 9 месяцев назад

    We need new puzzle types. Here are some ideas!
    1)Don’t blunder. Give a setup of every single position every player ever blundered from to everyone and as long as the computer doesn’t rank you as losing 2 points, you “win” the puzzle. Figure out the highest percentage of people that blunder on these and figure out a way to disproportionally give people these puzzles to train with.
    1b)don’t blunder in 2,3,4,etc. rather than taking every blunder you take every time two moves before a blunder, 3,etc… and you play 2,3 moves trying to not repeat the mistake.
    1c) extended don’t blunder mode. Some players may eventually blunder if given additional moves beyond one, so if someone blundered in 1, can they make two, three, four normal moves in these situations without blundering? A “blunder in 2” puzzle the real life game someone blundered in two moves. But extended mode asks you to make 4 moves or something without blundering in a position someone blundered in 1 move
    2)Avoid checkmate. Create puzzles where checkmate occurred in games but was avoidable. Give people “avoid checkmate in 1” puzzles and 2,3,4,5,etc. same idea as above for figuring out the best puzzles to train people on.
    3)avoid mistakes, misses and inaccuracies. Same idea as above.
    4)”find a series of random normal moves”. Make 2,3,4 etc moves without a blunder puzzle and you win. You could again figure out complex positions with pins and stuff where people are most likely to not find the normal move.
    5)blunder streak mode! Any above puzzles or even from the opening where you play chess or a puzzle and as soon as you blunder the game ends.
    6)First to blunder loses. This one is doable in unranked game. Play a game against players much weaker than you by using a burner account or unranked game set for biggest skill difference. Play until one of you blunders then leave the game and try again.
    7)Combination mode. This is where it is best… combine seeing the pattern with avoiding the blunder without knowing what game mode you are in. It’s too natural when playing puzzles to just go for an unusual move or aggressive move and it would be too natural in the above game moves to always just move a pawn or basic piece. Combining some puzzles even on easy mode with the common traps and such would train you for real chess.
