Oops I hit send on my message before I finished. Earl is the one I notice is chasing the ducks, chickens and even snapping and barking at the alpaca. I’m sure you aren’t watching him every second you are outside. An easy answer would be to pen Bear up for a week or 10 days and see if you lose any ducks. Did you ever lose any animals before you got Earl ?
I agree that Earl is most likely the one who is giving the ducks heart attacks. Bear is the one who is trying to stop and protect them. This is probably why Earl was bitten before.
***Daniel, this was so funny. My dog was walking past my phone & heard you talking to your animals. She stopped dead in her tracks cause she heard you say "treats". She stood there waiting for hers! I was laughing so hard but had to give her one of hers. Our animals are so funny but I'll never find a closer friend.
I don't know much about the situation with Bear, so I will not sound off on it, but Earl is showing clear signs of aggression/prey drive toward some of your livestock. He actively gave chase to the ducks, and the barking and charging the alpaca. It may be play, it can be hard to tell with dogs, but play can kill with that size difference.
I love babies and I love your videos lol as I was watching the game on my phone I was yelling get the ball YES YOU GOT THIS 👍👍❤️❤️🤗🤗 thank you for sharing the game, I enjoy watching the guys play 👍👍
My toy poodle killed several of my chickens. My Labrador never even chased them. However, my lab has brought us a few baby bunnies that she has found in the nest. She’s smart and will show us where she finds them. We take them back to the next. I never know if they make it after that. However, once she brought one to us and when she laid it down it didn’t move. She kept poking it with her nose. It was so so sad!! She mourned and laid near the nest for 2 days after that happened. Anyway, your comment reminded me of these incidents. It’s been a couple of years since the poodle has gotten loose from us and able to get a chicken. Oh and the chickens are twice our poodles size!!
I love watching your videos. They have gotten me through some tough times. I’m a nurse and sometimes my life has sucked over the past 4 or 5 years. I have turned off the world and just shut down watching your family and farm grow. Thanks for the videos and I love to hear the music at the end each time. I sometimes play it over and over. You are such a great support for your family. Keep up the great videos, I’m sure it is hard some days. I have 2 kids in college, it is hard to see them leave but hopefully their future is bright. We will pray they make the choices God has for them. 😎😇
Daniel I've noticed Earl being overly playful with goats and ducks and the reason Earl got bitten up was because Bear was stopping Earl from harassing the ducks and goats. Earl is playing too hard with them.
Agreed, thats what I think too, that is what Bear would be doing to protect the ducks and goats from anyone hurting them, even from Earl who may be trying to just play with them.
Daniel- so glad you’re free and able to farm, raise animals and do what you love!! Your new goat babies are cute- the one looks like he’s got a black mini skirt on from the front‼️❣️😂 Weston is talented👍🏼🌷🌿☀️. Runs in the family. Good luck with Earl‼️❤️🙏🏼.
I know it's hard to see Isaac getting in his last stage of life. But, glad you left him at the home he knows and loves. Good video Daniel. I have gone back and watched the video you did as "Lester"...that is the funnies video ever. Ya'll take care. ❤🙏
Well you say it's bear, just as that came out of your mouth there goes EARL CHASING THE DUCKS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. And when he chased the baby goats. It can't be EARL. And when he tried to chase the big male goat
I was going to say find an old inner spring mattress remove the padding and drag the fields. My father-in-law did that in his pastures. We used to have to pick up our horse's manure as kids. Dragging is the way to go!
I know Jami was sending you some ducks eggs. Well she just had 11 new ducklings hatch a few days ago. Maybe it's time to have her ship you some live babies!! Or a road trip would be fun too!!! Loving the new baby goats, glad they're all doing well!!! Stay blessed!!! ❤🤗🙏🏻
Chad at Adler Farms has been feeding his livestock guardian dog a CBD supplement. Smokey was limping terribly and has improved. Maybe would work for Isaac. He has a link on his page.
Yeah I think maybe they get by the new baby goats and he is doing his job. Love you Bear your amazing no matter . He is a great guardian dog for sure!! I believe he doesn't differentiate whether it's a large predator or a small predator and that's what he's doing is protecting!!!
Glad to see you have the harrowing implement. Have seen it at Lester's sanctuary. Works well. The baby goats are so cute & beautifully marked. Issac put out some good looking kids. Happy he gets to live out his life there on the farm.
But you just saw “Earl “ chasing them. You may be the one with blinders on. But you could just find Bear a new home and just get a new Guardian livestock dog
It alot of money for cameras every where. But made he put some on the animals. But it up to them and what best for his Farm. Respect them and there life and family. Good people to watch work a farm. Hope everyone has a great day. God bless.
For Isaac's comfort you might ask your Vet for an anti-inflammatory for his arthritis. Cold makes it worse (speaking from experience). Congratulations on all the baby goats. They are precious!!!
I find it very interesting that Bear has been on the place for years and nothing killed. Ya get Earl and all of a sudden he is a vicious dog and a duck murderer. Live stock dogs get rid of anything that could draw unwanted predators. Dead Ducks would bring predators. I still thing Earl was attacked and Bear fought off the predator and that something is killing your ducks and he is cleaning up the carcass like a guardian dog should.
Even with the tines down you should be good to pull it with the sxs. We have a 4 ft one and we use it behind our utility quad and it's only a 400. That's even pulling it through our arena with 5" deep sand.
Sorry for the loss of your duck. 😔 Congrats on the new baby goats!!! 🎉 So adorable❣ Another great video Daniel. 👍 Hope everyone is well and God Bless. 🤗💙🙏
Regardless of which is responsible its pretty clear Earl is a problem. LGD's and birds are often a challenge for sure but Earl seems to have an issue going after everything. It's also not going to help Bear having an animal aggressive dog chasing everything he's responsible for protecting. Keep Earl out of the animal pens!
I am happy I am not the only one that has noticed Earl exhibiting prey drive. Not saying he is doing anything, but unless he gets some training, he will eventually kill something, either in play or prey.
In another video, Daniel says that Earl was in the house during the night when one of the ducks got gone. So I don't think its him. I'd put out the trail cams in the area to see just what it is thats getting them.
Again it very well could be Bear and yes I watched the video saying Earl is in the house at night. I'm just saying they are playing with fire with Earl's prey drive. What is Bear's fate if he does his job and goes after Earl for chasing the kid goats? Bear has been protecting these animals for a long time, what changed where he may have killed these ducks? I can think of one thing.....another dog he watches chasing them on a regular basis.
One of my son's goats had triplets day before yesterday. Unfortunately 1 was so little and weak, they are bottle feeding it. Hopefully it will make it. Not trying to be critical but give you ideas to consider. Everyone farms differently. Make bigger pastures for the Mini Herfords. I realize you just increased your pastures but are the Herfords in it full time. They really need a big space. Big enough to have more grass and a larger area for poop would make it spread out more. You bought a nice piece of equipment. I hope you enjoy it. Instead of buying those harrow, my daddy made his own. He used an old bed springs (without covering) and drag them over pastures. We especially do this in spring before grass starts growing. We also have one made with 6 old truck/car tires. Connect them in a triangle shape and drag them around in pastures where the poop piles up. My daddy's generation was from the time that they did the best they could with what they had. So not always buying some equipment. We still use both for our pastures now. What we call harrow actually dig into the ground with blades. We use them and the plows to dig up the garden every spring before planting. I hope you had a great trip.
Issac is such a sweet old man bless him ,nice soft place to sleep is all he needs ease those joints ,the babies are always so cute ,i hope you dont lose anymore Ducks Bear doesnt know his strength anymore holds them too hard im sure its not intentional .
New babies.🐐👍 I am thinking that Earl's hunting instinct is kicking in. The last few videos. Have noticed it. Lost another duck 🤔🤔🤔. Yep, them harrows, will be handy on the homestead. Old Issac, good old boy. Would help to move him away from the females. That job of his, could do him in. 🇨🇦😊👍

Every couple of days....sprinkle chicken scratch on those cow pies and the chickens will eat the fly larvae and spread the patties for you. Regarding the ducks.....well, I think you should put up a trail cam and make sure. It definitely could be a Bear "accident", but Earl sure does go after the animals in the background of your videos a lot more recently (ducks, chickens, baby goats, alpacas)......he seems to be having a harder time controlling himself lately.
Our pet cats would go offbeat themselves when their time was close. Love the idea of letting Issac live his life out on your farm, he knows he is cared for. My dad would do the same thing spread out those cow pies.

Daniel you are usually good at discerning a problem and not placing false blame. i would like to request you look at the way Earl runs at , chaises all other animals, bites at or tries to fight others. He is young and has not been trained around the other animals. He can have obedience training and stop most of it. That is much better than laying blame at an older dog that is a guard dog and does not pester the other animals and watches not run after everything that runs by him.

It's Earl... you had to tell him NO chasing the ducks... hummmmmm
Earl is the only one we see excited around the animals. Chasing the ducks ect.

Earl even shows "prey drive" towards the kids.
I agree that Earl is most likely the one who is giving the ducks heart attacks. Bear is the one who is trying to stop and protect them. This is probably why Earl was bitten before.

Earl did it. Fire him, not Bear.
Could it be Earl killing the ducks. He seems to be chasing them and getting excitable with the other animals as well

Awe sorry about the ducks. Beautiful new baby goats and thank you for sharing good content all the time...♥️. Hot Springs is part time home !
You sure Earl is not the one taking out the ducks he keeps running up on all the animals? Just a though 😆
