I had to laugh. the central heating broke yesterday so it is a tad cold until the engineer arrives tomorrow. Who knows if it will be fixed before Christmas!
Nice vid Xavier! Pretty excited to see next year's update on your Hinoki. The species has been a challenge for me so all info will be helpful. Love your juniper compositions as well. Free cuttings are so much fun to play with. I take more risks with them trying new techniques.
Got my first bonsai in 1996 from my grandmother. It was an Ulmus "Indoor" (Parvifolia). It lasted for 2 weeks. Then I got in contact with a bonsai grower who was a friend of my dad and the rest is history.
I wish I knew as a novice about Hinoki not back budding, when I scalped my one a couple of years ago. Hopefully still make something from it eventually. Anyway have a brilliant Xmas Xavier always look forward to your updates best wishes buddy
Great looking Hinoki, the junipers look fabulous and will be come great trees, looking forward to the Scots pine, I’ve been looking for a nice Scots Pine but I’m struggling to find anything decent at the moment.
I tried a small tree with hinoki but found the foliage is so dense (chamaecyparis nana gracilis - nana meaning dwarf) that it caused issues of die back in the interior. Probably better for larger trees so you can arrange light into the interior. Yours look lovely and open.
i always enjoy your films ...feels like your just a neighbor an you share my level of info ... going to look for your email an try out your APP ... oh that scots pine if you put one xmas bulb on it we can call you charlie brown ...lol keep filming !!!! enjoy the season holidays !!!
Talking of multiple trees in one pot. About a week ago i bought a massive (Chinese?) juniper from my local garden centre about 3ft by 3ft. with lovely soft foliage and not a needle in sight. It was in the sale section £50 down from £130! I asked one of the guys there if I could put £10 down on it to reserve it as I did n't have any money at the moment. He said if I ask the Manager he might go down on the price, he said I cant hurt to ask. I did and I got it for £30. It turned out to be 3 large trees in one
my big acer was one of my first bonsai mate, i trained the roots then planted it out a year later, the only thing is i forgot about it. i was 14 when i bought it and its been planted out since i was 15.. im 41 now lol so its been out for a while lol :)
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat its in that yellow tub mate not sure when to repot though. do you know when is best mate? im on about my acer palmatum i asked advice on. dug it up late may this year 14th i think. ive had to trim it back 4 times as its sooo vigorous :)
Definitely agree on that - I think I mentioned something in the video about getting the wrong branch as the leader. It is something I will have to look at next year for sure. Thanks :)
Nice little Hinoki. I like that little pot mate. I see no reason why they won't thrive next year. Stay warm my friend.

You should not tell me that..

I've yet to own an Hinoki. But I do have some cuttings in the growing beds that I'm hoping will take at some point.
More fun projects for the future then :)

Chamaecyparis obtusa Tempelhof is worth looking at.
I had to look that one up - like the tight foliage growth
Hm.. Are you sure it is a hinoki cypress?
Definitely
On the juniper your side branch is taller than the apex, going to slow development of the tree

My first time was in the back seat of a ....Oh, wrong topic...😅😅😅😅
I was wondering if somebody would mention that :)
@XaviersBonsaiRetreat 🤪😄
I would have angled it more into a cascade, but that’s me not you. Otherwise lots of potential.
I considered that Sharon but liked the potential of keeping it semi upright more :)
