I didn't realize how fast fig tree branches grow. I have three long cuttings about one meter in length from a 30 year-old Douphine (French fig) fig tree my neighbors gave me here in Tokyo. That is one seasons growing length. Amazing. I am going to grow the cuttings in planters because I have no options for space. Do you use wax or something similar to place over the cut branches to keep them from drying out at the tops?
YES! I usually dip them in melted wax. (BUT I FORGOT TO DO THAT IN THIS VIDEO... LOL... but I did go back later and do it. Thanks for watching. And thanks for your comment.

I am going to guess you are going to get a lot of new growth next year and the plant is going to try and replace all the growth that you cut off... So hormonally speaking, it is going to be more in a vegetative recovery phase, than a fruiting phase. Next year, consider just tipping the tops of one branch, and leaving the side branches on it and compare fruit production on that branch vs. one you have completely cut everything off.

I was wrong! I googled your question and found that YES they can be grown from seed, but it takes a lot of patience. Which is probably why everyone does cuttings.
@@donj1561 So it is more complicated with figs, compared to most flowering plants. The challenge is that without both male fig plants and the wasps that pollinate them, the dried figs likely wouldn't have been pollinated in the first place. I don't believe so... everything I have seen about propagating them is through doing cuttings. I've never seen anybody trying the other way.
