Best demonstration of hand piecing I’ve seen yet! Never mind the cars, I’m fully focused on watching you. So glad I found you, I’ve just started the Dear Jane quilt and I want to hand piece it. I just did a star the same as yours and I’m not happy with the centre ( and I will be unpicking it!) so your video is timely and much appreciated. Have subscribed 🥰
Thank you Wendy for the video. I am hand sewing a 8 pointed star and have to sew the star together thru the center. Great idea on how to sew that. Looking forward to seeing mor video s on hand sewing.
Beautiful! This is how my paternal grandmother taught us to piece stars! I have an antique top that wasn't finished and I believe the sewer didn't know how toease the star points! I have been wondering if I dampen the centers, if I could work some magic 🤔 So many times I've seen circles appliqued to star centers .Probably why mariners compass etc all have circles in the centers. 🎉
Great video Wendy, thank you for making this! I feel like most tutorials show a larger finished star, this is wonderful seeing a tutorial on a smaller scale
Hi Wendy, thank you for this wonderful video. I have never hand pieced anything before, but your video motivated me to find a pattern, make the templates and this morning I completed my very first hand pieced eight point star!! I referred to your video step by step, your instructions made it so doable and fun!! Thank you again for sharing your talents. Can't wait to see your next video. Take care 😊!!!
This is a wonderful video, Wendy. Those 8 points meeting together is always pesky, but with your method is much easier. I used this video to complete my second star block and it went together so much better. Thanks!
HI Bonnie. Pressing the seams open would not work well for hand piecing. The seams would be very weak because there are less stitches per inch that on the sewing machine, and there's only a single thread - not like the machine where there's one from the top and the bobbin at the bottom. But I do understand your thinking. It's just wouldn't work well for hand piecing.
Jen Kingwell taught me to "Sew with a smile, not a frown". That means keep the upward curve (smile) closest to you. Put the other piece on the back. Mark your registration points - the centre, and additional points if it's a long curve. Pin both ends. Then pin the centre mark together. Add extra pins if necessary. Take small stitches. Keep practicing! Good luck.
Possibly, but you would need to remove the papers first (at least partially at the tips). The same principle of sewing right to the tip certainly applies.
@@caanje1 Hi Carol. It's not the Star a Day pattern, but it's the same principle. It does take practice to get the centres correct. I recommend you keep trying and be sure to go through the top of all the pieces. Have you got lines drawn or printed on the back of your fabric? They are essential when hand piecing. Don't just eyeball it. I hope that helps.
I’ve been looking all over the web for a hand sewer to show this step! Thank you!
First time watching your channel, your instructions are so helpful❣️Thank you so much 😁
Awesome video Wendy. Thank you so much.

Thanks a bunch Wendy. I think my problems may be resolved. I'm going to go try it out now.
Thank you.
Excellent video Wendy. Well explained, and love the pressing technique!
Thanks Sue.
WONderful technique - Thank you!!! 🥰👏 But would it not be even flatter if you pressed all the seams open?

Thank you good explanation
Superbe! Wow!
♥️♥️♥️♥️
how do you sew stubborn concave to convex curves? I am sewing green beans and sweet tea by Jen Kingwelll and I am having issues.

Wendy can I use the same concept for eight pointed epp ?
Possibly, but you would need to remove the papers first (at least partially at the tips). The same principle of sewing right to the tip certainly applies.
Is that star a day ?
Do you mean the pattern? Or how many I can sew in a day? I can sew quite a few of these each day.
I mean is that the pattern for star a day . How do you get your points like the video l have tried and it went totally wrong .
