Your enthusiasm and obvious passion for drumming and cymbals makes me happy to watch your videos. Thank you! We need more people like you in this world.
Terry, please do a new video explaining foot technique and different ways to get the triplets on the bass pedal. Maybe how you get it to sound so clean and ways to practice foot technique
I love it! Back in the early 80's I would not give Zildjian Crashes a chance. Heard lots of them on recordings ( loved them,) but my buddy bought a bunch of Zildjian crashes because of the" Neil Pert Sound," I thought they sounded like garbage cans when I heard them (No Offence.) Please understand I live in central WI. Not a music store within 100mi that had a good selection of Z's to try out. I since became a Paiste fanatic (because they sounded to me like the recordings I loved) and have not outside of hi-hats and rides given Zildjian a chance. I will admit this S Cymbal has my full attention! Thanks for the comparison.
by the way for me its ok if you re-make old videos based on your knowledge today. this is a nerd channel - Iam ready to watch 100 clips about B8 and B12 just to learn 2 more details - your drum interpretations and analyse too
Haha. When you get talking about cymbals I always half expect a nurse to walk in with a pill cup and a glass of water, 'Time to take your medication Mr. Keating. Lets go upstairs for your nap now." Luv it!
Great video like always! I like the sustain. I am a GIANT BEAT fan and continue to play them today, including the 20" (and the 26" Giant Beat ride is the BEST I've ever played by the way; Bonham would be interested in this one for sure), however, I've heard the "S" series are very much like the "Z3's" of not that long ago. I've played the Z3's and found them to be to heavy, shrill, and "metal-ly" if that makes any sense. Giant Beat all the way!
After seeing this video, I went and ordered the S series I couldn’t wait to take it out of the box. They hear that sound there was I’m in love with it. I have the medium thin 20 inch S that just feels so much heavier like a heavy I can imagine what they’re heavy ones feels like
Dude who taught me how to play had an OLD Zildjian 22inch ride, that was the SWEETEST cymbal of all time. The bell had this clear, crisp sound that you could consistently get 3 or 4 distinct bell tones from it, depending on when on the bell and what part of the stick you used. I mean, like if you had actual BELLS to strike. And the sound of the cymbal itself was so sweet. Clean, crisp and insane sustain. I've never in 20 years since found another ride that matched it. It's hard enough to find a 22. No logos on it... Just the Zildjian stamped into it. Don't know what model, year... Anything. I would give my first born to have that cymbal or its match.
Hey Terry! I'm working on a Paiste set up, and so far I've got a 24"2002 ride,22"Blue Bell ride and a '78 18" 602 Flat Ride and some Twenty series hi hats( the original ones ) In your opinion, what would be the best bet as far as crashes,2002s or Giant Beats? It's mainly for recording purposes. Thanks! Great vid as always.
wow that S series crash is like the Paiste rude, well maybe one of the rude crashes. The 20 S medium would be a decent crash ride. Of course the giant beat here sounds super!
I have a shit ton of the K dark Zildjians..... I never tried out any paiste but I do know they know B8 better than any other company..... if I were to change I would probably go to giant beat or the classic 2002 alloy
I never could get into Paiste cymbals. There is this super high pitched sound they have which is just too harsh for my ears. My fave cymbals is the original Zildjian K custom dark series. Now if they could bring just bring the K logo into the 20th century, hopefully the 21st someday.
After playing Zildjian for almost 20 years. I had that same opinion. I always thought paiste had some very harsh, bright, obnoxious sound. Until 2 years ago I change band practice rooms. And the drums there had all 2002's cymbals. I starting playing them and story short. I still think Zildjian are good cymbals but they are way behind Paiste sound wise. Paiste's are simply amazing. My band mates and my sound guy said never bring those Z's again. Paiste's are Mutch more musical, smoother, controled and microphones simply love them. Some of my fiends said, it's cymbals in HD definition. I have the pleasure now to be a paiste endorser. And I doubt I ever going back to another cymbal company. Honest true, I never liked Paiste until I played them and record them. They are just better period. I play mostly, 2002's, 602 classics and Giant beat. And they Burried my older K's to dust. I used A custom crash's for ages and man 2002's are so clear without that medium frequency that makes them very boomy. 2002's are crystal clear and very warm sounding. My two cents
Man, I am in the WEEDSS here with your videos dude. surprised by the S series cymbals.....been checking them out on the Zildjian site....I don't know Giant Beats too well in person, but the S line kinda remind me more of 2002s actually....there's a low "note" in the sustain.
Just so you know, I'm a Signature guy. But always up for listening to other cymbals, especially Paiste stuff....hence being in the weeds of your videos.
@@bonzoleum They've been added to my mental list of cymbals to keep an eye out for already actually. I was impressed with what I heard online last night after watching your video.
I bought a 20" s family medium thin and it sounds exactly like my 18" sabian... like exactly. I'm selling it. Maybe try the thin one day. Dissapointed.
I have a question I meant to ask at the clinic. How do you record your audio with the mic? Do you record through an interface? Because i want to get mics for my videos eventually and don't know how to use external condenser mics and have it lined up without actually going through and lining it up.
Is this Aaron? I use a MXL V250 condenser and run it through a small inexpensive board. Then I run a stereo output to my Nikon D3300 camera. I’m going to make a video as a lot of folks have inquired about it.
bonzoleum this is Eric. I got a picture with you at the clinic and I tagged you in it on instagram. Thank you so much. I just don't know how to use those mics with the camera. I have a canom that I record with and would love to have condenser mics for the set to have 10x better audio. Thank you for the help and keep up with the great work.
bonzoleum thank you very much. In the middle of watching right now actually lol. I don't think my camera has a Mic input jack so I have to get the adaptor. Thank you so much for making it and helping me out.
Paiste wannabe maybe? Sounds good I like your ear. The cymbals are the part of the kit that have a real frequency. I've seen them interfere with television reception.
Earthdogbonzo3 dont you know this man about now? The talking is the whole thing. If you just wanted the cymbal sounds you should just wait for him to tell what cymbals they are and then go somewhere else to get a quick demo. But try getting the enthusiasm and love for those cymbals by "regular salesman".
Ruben Spoolder I work with the cymbal, it works, it stays with me. It doesn't, I move it along where maybe it's someone else's dream. I like Terry, I wouldn't be here otherwise. I have so very little free time these days.
I think the Giant Beat sounds better to my ears through my speakers. I enjoy your videos Terry! Thanks,

If Bill Murray met Hank Kimble of Green Acres and morphed together---- this would be the ever self-correcting Bonzoleum
I'm sold on that Zildjian 20" S.
Terry seems like such a cool guy. I wish I could've gone to the clinic. I live a half hour away. Cursed wisdom teeth removal surgery.
I normally prefer most Paistes, but the Zildjian sounded really nice!
Ive been listening to your vids driving home in traffic . Makes the ride easier , Have u thought about doing a video on die cast hoops vs reg hoops
You're always awesome Terry!!
Amazingly similar. You have great ears Terry! I have to say I prefer the Zildjian S.
Hahaaa visions of you scrubbing off that Zildjian logo

Yeah, yeah, that's perfect! Not so sure Mrs. Keating would be onboard though.
I love it too! The enthusiasm! This stuff is the life-blood for us, and anyone who tells us we're crazy can suck it! XD
"Hang on, maybe I have 30 seconds left, ( choke/cough ) " 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Bill Hosmer I know what you mean

Yes- I recommend the S THIN CRASH models. The 18" Medium Crash is great too.
what is that snare!? sounds absolutely amazing

FN LN I'll check it out for sure!
Have you ever tried the Sabian APXs?
I think you should look for reissued giant beats that are on the heavier side of the spectrum.

musicalchairs777 I would go with the classic red label 2002s
I'd go Giant Beats
Good video. They both sound nice. Paiste makes great stuff but in this case I prefer the Zildjian.
It's close, but I'd have to side with the Paiste
wow that S series crash is like the Paiste rude, well maybe one of the rude crashes. The 20 S medium would be a decent crash ride. Of course the giant beat here sounds super!

Hi Dave-I say score each an S series 18" and 20" THIN CRASH.
@@bonzoleum They've been added to my mental list of cymbals to keep an eye out for already actually. I was impressed with what I heard online last night after watching your video.
What's your favorite 18" cymbal?
Brian Baker for me it’s the k dark medium thin crash
I love how he almost has no room to play guan drums because of his drums
I bought a 20" s family medium thin and it sounds exactly like my 18" sabian... like exactly. I'm selling it. Maybe try the thin one day. Dissapointed.

I just made a video regarding my setup. It will post shortly. Check and see if your Canon has a mic input (it'll be a 1/8th" jack).
Here you go, Eric. Let me know id this helps: ruclips.net/video/K4_HYITpA64/видео.html
bonzoleum thank you very much. In the middle of watching right now actually lol. I don't think my camera has a Mic input jack so I have to get the adaptor. Thank you so much for making it and helping me out.
what is that snare?
The Zildjian sounds a little dark compared to the Paiste.......just my opinion but then again I'm a Paiste man.
Got to go with the PIE still 🤘😎🤘
Paiste wannabe maybe? Sounds good I like your ear. The cymbals are the part of the kit that have a real frequency. I've seen them interfere with television reception.
Paiste sounds better
Keith Roland paiste sounds different
Agree Paiste All the way 👍
I like the Zildjian
Cut to the chase and get on with it!

Ruben Spoolder this is like a unintentional comedy i don’t even care about the cymbals ! I just want to hear him talk haha
Bmf Dan mah man
Ruben Spoolder I work with the cymbal, it works, it stays with me. It doesn't, I move it along where maybe it's someone else's dream. I like Terry, I wouldn't be here otherwise. I have so very little free time these days.
Out there in the world there is a mountain of cracked and broken Paiste's, there is a small ant hillof broken Zildjian's and Sabian's, nuff said,
