I have almost no formal training in music. Just years and years of listening to hip-hop. I downloaded FL for the first time this past weekend and have been reading and watching everything I can. These types of vids are a godsend. I know it's a lot of work putting these together so....Thank you!!
me too, i just downloaded fl last 2 month ago with never going to music school or any music classes and i've learned so much especielly from these type of videos that are like 1 hour long where they explain everything in detail
**TIP** 36:55 if you are using fl limiter to sidechain .. if the release shape looks jagged then increase the sustain knob until the release line is smooth. This will give a cleaner sound to your side chain, especially if you use a bass heavy kick which can make your compressor's release bug out and be shakey and not smooth.
If you want to send clipped files then export at 32bit, not 24 or 16bit. The last two options will have clipped distorion baked into your files. If you export at 32bits the engineer can simply turn those files down without any unwanted distortion baked into them. If your master or stems go past 0db, export at 32bit so the engineer can lower the volume properly when its time to record over the beat
I said this to someone in another comment thread… but this is where the long tutorials via RUclips help people, it gives us enough time to let the tutorial act as if it was made for us, then it speaks to us as a result… because we need it, WAY better than a short due to the lack of authenticity in shorts.
bro, I’ve never learned English, but I understand you perfectly! I’m from Russia, and in my opinion this genre has not yet gained momentum here, I’m watching and learning! you are the best in this matter (of those who do and teach!) thanks for the great content! I’m writing through a translator, sorry if my speech is crooked!
You’ll be okay… besides just because a genre has not gained popularity in a specific country doesn’t mean you shouldn’t study it. In fact, low saturation is an advantage.. be one of the first to learn and master this genre in your own country! You’ll be ahead of the game.
What you can try to do is listen to trap music / instrumentals.. and by ear, try to figure out how to create a drum loop for trap, then use the same principles you learned here on this masterclass video and apply it to your trap beats! Do everything by ear. You have to have the ability as a producer to decode / reverse engineer music to produce it. That’s a skill that comes with time. I’ve been doing this since 2011. Hope that helps! 👊🏼
I agree.. because it feels like it’s tailor made for you especially with longer lessons. There’s so many gems.. to be learned in long sessions like because short sessions lack authenticity.
That’s interesting, are any difficulties with transcending the knowledge you learn here for FL studio to Logic? I’m curious.. and Was wondering this for the commenters because I use FL studio and thought of this while learning Drill myself 😅
Bruh this is a gold tutorial. Some things I learned from this is to check key on everything including risers... Also good use of grossbeat which I have, but barely understand...
That’s a good point! When I produce music I don’t check the key for percussion but definitely for risers. It’s too miniscule to pick up… the elements you need make sure you check and upwards; is bass/sub bass. That’s the bare minimum… also gross beat is good but it’s definitely overused. Use it wisely.
your a bomb bro 👊 just used your tipps of the vocal mixing video what i watched yesterday, even its already old lol. but it sounds much better now. ill def watching this video also cuz i do sometimes drill and i think any good mix & master tip i can get, will be useful for me. thank you for open up that bunch of knowledge and that for free. salute 👌
Bro you are best drill beat teacher , I started experimenting with the tips you have given and it really helped me make my drill beats better 🫡🔥. Thanks man and im also gonna buy your drill kit asap.
Thanks for taking the timeout to teach in details man. You're not just making beats you're teaching and inspiring producers out here. Appreciate you so much
How do you produce other music genres ? I would assume you take the principles you hear for Drill and apply it to other genres ? Me personally, I clock genres by ear. One of the hardest things I did was listen to break beat DnB and recreate the Break beat drum pattern without using shuffles (it’s not released yet) but it was tough.. especially doing it by ear - takes a long time.
I remember when I first bought FL. I actually first downloaded FL Studio 9 Demo version in 2011 I think? Started producing dubstep, and transcended to Grime, and then when I mastered Grime, I could produce everything else - Rap, Drill, Grime, Dnb, now I’m focussing on Orchrstral Compositions! Good luck to you G
How would you say longer form tutorials have helped you in your production career? I find this quite interesting because a lot of people don’t like long form content.. unless they need it, it’s specific to them
i've learn so much in one video man i really appreciate your energie your humour to keepthe video interesting man hopefully we'll get like that in other genre again thanks mate

Thank you so much Jay, as a new aspiring producer that’s about to create his second ever beat this information is invaluable. I know how much work must go into these videos so hats off.
Thank you for everything you share with the community, your teachings undoubtedly help us grow as producers, at least I feel that I have learned a lot with all your tutorials, I hope you have the opportunity to share this type of videos with other genres. Greetings from Ecuador

Best Guide so far, everybody can learn something from this. I Watch you since i started producing and the only Guide i have not seen from you or any other producer, is a guide for making these edits to publish your music like you do on your insta. I‘d really wish for such a guide i know it isnt exiciting for a beginner but i think many people struggle with getting the right eye catcher for their music you could do a whole Series off it insta publishing, publishing on Spotify, SoundCloud, RUclips, BeatStars.
