My first time hearing this song, it's never come up in my feed or a search before, it's so hauntingly beautiful, sad, introspective, longing, and heartbreaking. It's like she's at once singing to a woman, and that woman is the one inside herself, and to another woman as well. So glad it was FINALLY released. Thanks for sharing it.
A beautiful song for Dusty, such a Beautiful Soul! It's a true happiness for us to have the chance to listen to this extremely sensitive and emotional song, performed magnificently by Dusty! Thank you so much, Darren! 🌹💖
This song was written by Women's Music pioneer Margie Adam, and it's included on her 1976 album Songwriter. There's a gorgeous live version of this with Adam, Cris Williamson, Holly Near, and Meg Christian on Margie's page.
Yes, my first time hearing this song too. It's like she's at once singing to a woman, and that woman is the one inside herself, and to another woman as well. It's beautiful, and sad.
Beautiful Soul I wonder where you are, lovable lady I wonder what you're thinking, beautiful woman It seems like fog is settling in within your eyes And the weight of something is pulling your shoulders down Could it be you ask too much, lovable lady? From a world that's out of touch, beautiful woman So you're hammering at a door that will not open And your beautiful soul is weeping Better learn the way it goes Oh, better share the pain that shows You wanna transcend it in order to end it But your loneliness grows Ah, ha, do you hate yourself, lovable lady? Can I be of help, beautiful woman? Your silence is a wall between the two of us And my beautiful soul is weeping Oooooooooooh Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Margie Adam
This is indeed a song to another woman, and it's always a mystery to me why a lot of fans don't want to acknowledge the reality of her life and sexuality, it's just what it is. And whatever our own sexuality is, the depth of her song interpretations speak to all of our experience.
that looks like Lesley Gore on the far left at 2:36, and her partner on the right? I hope Dusty found some happiness in the company of good friends if not always with her lovers... it's a rocky road when you are gay trying to maintain a relationship even these days, much much worse back then, I know, I lived it, and like Dusty, ended up alone.... wish I could have met her.
A touching song from Miss Springfield. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful Soul
I wonder where you are, lovable lady
I wonder what you're thinking, beautiful woman
It seems like fog is settling in within your eyes
And the weight of something is pulling your shoulders down

But your loneliness grows
Ah, ha, do you hate yourself, lovable lady?
Can I be of help, beautiful woman?
Your silence is a wall between the two of us
And my beautiful soul is weeping

Why a I crying
I think this is a love song to another woman. I heard it recorded by Chris Williamson, a popular lesbian singer, sometime in the 70s. It's special.
Would it be possible to list some of the lovely ladies Dusty is pictured with in these photos?
Lesley Gore and Olivia Newton John to name a couple.
Norma Tanega and Sue Cameron, her long time partners
That last picture is with one of her partners.

Yup! That's Lesley! One of my favorite photos of famous people!
