Dean mentioned in an interview that the actual Big Jilm is a guy who worked for Dean’s dad, and had a car detailing service. He pronounced his name like “Jilm”, his name was Jim Lemons, so it kinda was what they called him in the song. He died years ago, and they made a post about it
I wouldn't say better but much more appealing and fleshed out. I think the songs really are quite masterful and I always could hear that on record, but I think live more people finally "get" it.
I generally agree. The more Brown the recording of the song, usually the more awesome live. The only song I can think of live that I dislike but like on CD is Ocean Man lol. I'd say King Billy, also... but they've only played it live once (but even Freeman's solo shows it couldn't touch the EP version imo).
Quick story; The late-nineties and I'm rocking out to Ween in Hollywood driving a 3-ton big ass box truck for work. I'd been pulling back-to-back jobs, with insane hours, so I'm a bit drowsy. Some guy pulls up next to me at a stop light yelling "Hey man... Hey!!!". I pop to attention from a half-sleep daze thinking to myself, ahhhhh what did I do? Guy yells from his car, "Hey man, is that Ween?" I smile - Stop light goes green and guy holds his fist out the window and as he pulls away yells, "I F'#$%ING LOVE WEEN ! ! ! " .... Me too man, me too.
Of all the great truths of Ween, the fact that they remembered to include the "L" in "Jilm" might come closest to encompassing the whole of their greatness. Praise be the Boognish.
Alot of bands seem to have a very superficial quality to them and seem to take themselves, their sound and what they write far too seriously. Ween are one of those very rare exceptions. They always look and sound like they're having fun when they play. There is just something so authentic and genuine about this band. They write whatever they feel like writing and it shows in their performance. Ween are just a delight.
fun fact: this is completely genuine you can search it up and everything. the person who created spongebob created it because they listened to ocean man and they loved the song so much that they created spongebob
I seen them in February and Claude did put the coke on my dick and his microphone wasn't turned on for like the first half of the song. Technical difficulties still happen these days. Lol
In my opinion everything on live in chicago is the best of itself. I watched this continuously 30 times in one day before a concert the next day! Think the boognish pocessed me 😂😂 gotta love ween
Hey ET, thanks to you I gave an old friend a call to see if he knew about this and he just so happened to pick up 4 tickets for one of the NYC shows and I'm going!! You da man!
I remember catching PUSH the lil DAISIES on MTV years ago thinking, MAN, these guys are gonna crash hard or go to the top. WTF, can't say how much I will be forever grateful it went to the latter. These cats are so well versed in so many different genres. And to think I just stumbled upon them. Damn. BY THE GRACE OF THE ALL AND MIGHTY!!!
Everything about this is trippy. It sounds like drunk Springsteen, the delay at the end, the woman in red waving her arms independent from any body movement, the bassist screaming Big Jilm into a mic thats not working....
One of my favourite moments in this video is hard to catch but it's hilarious. Listen from 2:36 - 2:39. Deaner burps and does the whole Big Jilm "THANK YOU" right after.
that one person probably disliked this cause they weren't at this show. well..i wasn't at this show either, i had just turned 10 when they performed this xD
Dont get me wrong the studio version is awesome but when its live without the studio effects its really fucking great. The guitar riff almost reminds me of T. Rex
@stolleryvision I think they still do. The guy it's about died though. I think it was some guy who worked with one of their dads as a mechanic? If anyone can clarify that? I'm sure that's what I read. Kinda away from home right now so computer time is minimal
Am I alone in believing that Big Jilm really exists? When gazing at Pure Guava’s liner art, I’m convinced Jilm is the big bearded dude in the white tee holding the doll. Obviously a neighbor at the pod. Whatever - Big Jilm is the brownest m-f’er I ever did done seen.
Best version of arguably the greatest song ever about a character called Jilm.
Dale Hagger I don't know, Zach Morris did a version of this on Saved By The Bell and he was all, "Ah bell bell bell, b b b bell bell bell.".
Also the biggest...
Does anyone know what the story behind the song is?
Dean mentioned in an interview that the actual Big Jilm is a guy who worked for Dean’s dad, and had a car detailing service. He pronounced his name like “Jilm”, his name was Jim Lemons, so it kinda was what they called him in the song. He died years ago, and they made a post about it
Nailed it
Every Ween song is better live but this is an extreme example of that. Amazing.
I couldn't agree more
I wouldn't say better but much more appealing and fleshed out. I think the songs really are quite masterful and I always could hear that on record, but I think live more people finally "get" it.

Get outta here
This is perfect 👌
Beyond the awesome of Ween I enjoy being part of one of the best fan bases ever. Liking Ween basically means you're my friend already.
What's up friend
Hi new amigo🙃✌️
Brown Besties 4 lyfe
Hey friend! :D
Yep music connects 😉 .
that delay that activates only on the louder yelling parts is a-mazing

Big Jilm!!!
This is the greatest thing that has ever happened.
+SuperChampionRocker It sure is
Andrew N. Thank you.
I likes it too
It's the biggest ol goddamn thing I ever done did see Big Jilm
0:11 can we just take a moment to appreciate Claude’s wonderful throwing of the stick and making it into the beat?
Bit early for that but it’s great
The drummer is a dynamics monster!! Ween in Chicago is one of the best rock performances ever.
Of all the great truths of Ween, the fact that they remembered to include the "L" in "Jilm" might come closest to encompassing the whole of their greatness. Praise be the Boognish.
for a song with about 20 unique words it's pretty damn good
I come to you from the future (the year 2015) and I bring to you tidings of great joy; for it is in this time, the mighty Ween get back together!
notreallybandfromottawa holy shit pretty accurate, they did announce their return in 2015 and played in February 2016
Damn dude, you mind if I borrow your time machine anytime soon?
What the fuck
keep it up, that's how you got banned from ottawa
@@maxwell25 Hey can you guys pick me up?
Alot of bands seem to have a very superficial quality to them and seem to take themselves, their sound and what they write far too seriously.
Ween are one of those very rare exceptions.
They always look and sound like they're having fun when they play.
There is just something so authentic and genuine about this band.
They write whatever they feel like writing and it shows in their performance.
Ween are just a delight.
I'm surprised the SpongeBob movie of all things is what introduced me to this band.
Same here. That is the magic and genius of both Spongebob and Ween. Two of the best things ever happened in history.
It's just a testament to their greatness.
fun fact: this is completely genuine you can search it up and everything. the person who created spongebob created it because they listened to ocean man and they loved the song so much that they created spongebob
@@D7oDR6KpRgqkcqlKAkCWjvlDy4x not just the song ocean man, but the entire The Mollusk album inspired spongebob
I loved that movie!
This is biggest ol' goddamn thing I ever did dere see derd debbah. BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG JILM!
they’re trying to out brown each other this is beautiful
hahahaha dudes I love at 3:27 when dave goes to say big jilm but his mic is off fucken ween MAN
I was looking to see if someone else commented on that lol
I'm here for the "did anyone else notice that" party
I seen them in February and Claude did put the coke on my dick and his microphone wasn't turned on for like the first half of the song. Technical difficulties still happen these days. Lol
My mother was actively giving birth to me when this show was played
Lucky many u are
Of all the versions I've heard of Big Jilm, I still think this one is far superior to all the others.
That's cause, citing them, "I want to make a good D-V-D!"
Harris Del Monte I love every version.. listening to Stubbs version in the car cracks me up still
Same. I crack up just thinking about it.
In my opinion everything on live in chicago is the best of itself. I watched this continuously 30 times in one day before a concert the next day! Think the boognish pocessed me 😂😂 gotta love ween
the definitive version of this song in my humble opinion.
It's a fact. A scientifically proven fact. This is the greatest thing ever :)
Seeing them perform live just from online footage makes me so happy inside. Can’t wait til I see em for the first time live in June :)
btw Claude Coleman Jr.is one of the all time great drummers, their is nothing but greatness by all the players. But that drumming is perfection.
By commenting on this video I have set in motion and alternate reality, so now I don't know what will happen.
yo dude, whatever wound up happening?
Ahhhhh, so you're the One who created the RIFT!!! \,,/ Way to Go, Mang! :D
And now look!!! What do you have to say for yourself?
at the absolute peak of their powers!
For all u ladies n gents who havn't heard.. THEEEEEEy're BAAAAAAAAAAAACK !
+ET Whisperer (TRebChanneling) Seriously? Ween is touring again!?
Joseph Guida 3 dates in Colorado.
Hey ET, thanks to you I gave an old friend a call to see if he knew about this and he just so happened to pick up 4 tickets for one of the NYC shows and I'm going!! You da man!
Hell yea!!!!
Joseph Guida Hell yea!
I love this song so much, this is a truly powerful performance. They definitely channeled the Boognish very strongly here.
This is the best version of Big Jilm I have ever heard.
Always show appreciation in advenece for all you desire. Thank you.
Great song. Great band. Thanks, Josh Homme, for the recommendation.
Great song, it's awesome how they made it super rockin. I NEED to see these guys live.
I was at all three nights of Ween at the Vic in Chicago. This actual show. Man what a fuckin' sweet night and BIG JILM!
My heart is so full, thank you for sharing
I remember catching PUSH the lil DAISIES on MTV years ago thinking, MAN, these guys are gonna crash hard or go to the top. WTF, can't say how much I will be forever grateful it went to the latter. I almost never like recordings better than studio but this is so on point.

That delay on the vocals, holy fuck!!!!

Everything about this is trippy. It sounds like drunk Springsteen, the delay at the end, the woman in red waving her arms independent from any body movement, the bassist screaming Big Jilm into a mic thats not working....
Well said, Ed
Beyond perfection Big Jilm
awesome man, I've found almost every song from this concert here on youtube except those 2
Why I love Ween
R.I.P Big Jilm. This is my favorite rendition.
This is the most brilliant song ever
Love the belch at 2:36.
"I wanna make a good DVD!!!" -Dean Ween, earlier in the show.
I adore ween
Jim took me out trick r treating one year. Biggest pillow case full ever.
epic to d core.... very talented and as equally underrated band....
All of the clips from this show in Chicago all rock, would have been a good show to go to,they were really tight that night it would seem
Goddamn it, Genny.
awsome video they are unreal awsome big jilm!
the greatest moment in the history of the world you mean
Lollapalooza 2011 baby. I remember
If I ever play this live with my band which doesn’t exist yet I will learn how to burp on command in order to properly honour this performance
Ah the magnificence known as Ween. Man I miss them.
+Ricky Bobby :)
+Ricky Bobby THEY'RE BAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK !!
...love this song.
One of my favourite moments in this video is hard to catch but it's hilarious.
Listen from 2:36 - 2:39. Deaner burps and does the whole Big Jilm "THANK YOU" right after.
HAHAHAHA
Ba ha ha ha
Such an awesome and corky song ! A favorite to hear Nd show off to my friends!!
Guitar is giving me a T-Rex vibe, and a half chub.
+Rudolf Schmidt I know right. I know how I am spending my Saturday morning, playing Big Jilm till the cows come home.
WHY NOT ME!?!?!?
I have no idea what this video is but I love it
so awesome
Echo love Jilm.
Dean sounds like everyone's drunk uncle.
I like the part when they say BIG JILM
Big Jilm and his family disliked this.
Why dislike? It pleased the bol weevil. It was even foggy in the meadow with a log. That's like George Washington beautiful. What's not to like?
But we loved it!
@@durangobrando froggy*
too epic a live performance!!
Dude, totally! Love the username, by the way.
There is nothing better

Why’d they cut Dave from sound at 3:25. If it’s bad it’s irrelevant
that one person probably disliked this cause they weren't at this show. well..i wasn't at this show either, i had just turned 10 when they performed this xD
check out the at the cats cradle in '92 version. thats my personal favorite.

Sure thing man.
LMAO the burp!!!
Dont get me wrong the studio version is awesome but when its live without the studio effects its really fucking great. The guitar riff almost reminds me of T. Rex
yeah it's one of those old school rock'n'roll-kinda riffs. Dig it
@stolleryvision I think they still do. The guy it's about died though. I think it was some guy who worked with one of their dads as a mechanic? If anyone can clarify that? I'm sure that's what I read. Kinda away from home right now so computer time is minimal
Better then the live version , awesome duo🖤 and Freddie ofcourse 😉
Fun on a bun.
FUCKING AWESOME MAN
big jilm A What, so much better than the recorded version, blimey good stuff.

@wartravs22
My favorite version is still the one from Live at Stubbs. You can just tell they were having so much fun doing that one
This version of the riff sounds a lot like Nirvana!
