Grimores were made harder with the constant corruption tick, but less rewarding as in Vermintide. You get about 1/4 to maybe 1/3 of your mission reward on top. Just do 2 missions without secondary in and get more out of it in terms of progress, enjoyment and loot.
I loved running 3 tome 2 grimoire runs in Vermintide 1's Cataclysm, they were hard as nails but the reward was appropriately pretty good. I have 0 incentive to run either scriptures or grimoires in any difficulty mission in Darktide outside of maybe leveling up an alt character.
The only reason to do Grims obviously is for contracts. Also it can be somewhat useful for Zealots and their "Martyrdom" perk.. kinda enforcing that damage bonus. Especially if you take the perk where it gives 6 stacks of Martyrdom instead of 3.
...So, let's review the problems with grimoires in this game: 1.) Their spawns are random, and you can easily miss the last one. 2.) Players already rush through a level and don't explore or loot *_FOR SOME MYSTICAL REASON_* like they have an explosive collar around their neck in real life that is counting down. 3.) Players can pick up a grimoire, use it and destroy it. 4.) If a player is downed and dies, the grimoire is lost forever - no picking it up like medkits or ammo crates when they're dropped by dead players. 5.) You lose health to corruption immediately upon pick up, for your entire team, and continue losing it. ...So, either Fatshark needs to MASSIVELY boost the payout for grimoires because actually getting fellow players to not just ignore everything and rush to the end of the level is about as pointless as trying to herd cats, players that die with it lose the grimoire and it can't be picked up or replaced and you can easily miss it. And you get like, what, about ~2,400 or so ordo dockets for getting all of them? With that much frustration to deal with? It's not really worth it, and good luck getting randoms to even put up with you searching for them - they'll just throw a fit and kick you from the party because they want to speedrun levels like they only have 20 minutes left of life to live.
@@Gamermason To be honest, i was thinking the same before it happened (thankfully my friend is a lot more dedicated in searching every corner of the maps ^^)
I didn't see it mentioned, but I might have missed it. Healing at a Medcae station will reset the corruption to a lower amount. Basically buying your more time.
A tip I keep telling my friends when doing Grim runs is to grab curios that increase "wounds". Each wound is a segmented portion of your health, with most classes starting with only 3 segments. If you have only one wound that is no corrupted, (all others being purple), then the next time you go down you will straight up die. And just like in Vtide2, if you die holding a grim, its gone forever. The more segments of health you have, or wounds, the more your health pool is divided and each one represents a smaller % of your HP. So with lots of these wounds, you'll need far more corruption to leave you with only 1 white segment. As a general rule, let the Ogryn grab one of the Grims, as by default I think he gets 5 wounds without a curio? He's also just got more survivability too. And stop letting the psyker take them too! They're far too squishy, you're bound to lose grims that way.
@@alyssasowell774 that's not what I mean: if someone dies holding it, the grim is gone forever. So it's best to give it to the class with the most health/wound count. And without curios, that's the Ogryn. Everyone is affected with corruption, but that corruption affects the survivability of each class differently. Vet and Psyker are often squishy, so without lvl 30 feats Ive found it best to give to ogryns and preacher since preacher can also survive a killing blow every 90 secs
@@Gamermason It would make sense. But what doesn't make sense is that you can't swap characters. I really don't like that feature currently as it stands due to that. Every time we load into a public match, and there's no Ogryn, or there's 2 Vets, or something that isn't really the best team composition, I just wish I could swap out for what we're missing. Vtide2 locked heroes, so no matter what this could never be an issue. So as much as I like the freedom of selection, the game really does kind of work best when you have 1 of each.
I had noticed something was up the last couple games we went for the grimoires but I couldnt figure out why it was so much harder and why I was losing wounds without being knocked down. Great vid, thanks so much
These grimoires are so frustrating compared to the ones in VT2, and give you so little benefit. I just avoid any missions with grimoires on now, even if it's on a level I really like.
it's most noticeable with scriptures on missions with 3 named sections before the ending, but the grim/scriptures are divided up into the different named locations in a level. Since there is one fewer grim, one of the sections won't have one. It's usually easier to find grims because they glow green and are usually placed in dark areas.
Hey mate, just played a game with you as the Ogryn Boggra. Hope the Scripture video turns out well! Gave a sub too. Handy tip: Grimoires also give off a green glow in the spot they are also making it a bit easier to find it in darker areas.
Ok, let's get a few things straightened out. Grimoires corrupt health over time as well as when they're first picked up, making the game harder. They don't give extra rewards unless you count like... 2 K more ordo dockets as a reward (Which at this point is not even really much of a reward, you can just leave the grimoires and get 2x more missions done in the time you could get 1 done with a few grimoires and with less headache) and it doesn't increase your likelihood of getting a better Gift from the Emperor. Therefor, it's easy to conclude the only thing Grimoires (As well as Scriptures) are good for, and that is Sire Melk Contracts. And even then, you can use Ordo dockets to swap out that particular part for something that is not a grimoire or scripture, such as murdering types of enemies with ranged or melee, or simply completing a number of missions, or killing monstrosities (all of which happen naturally over the course of numerous missions) In Summation: Grimoires and Scriptures are a useless mechanic that Fatshark needs to either buff or get rid of, because it's currently not fun.
Good eye. That's definitely a detail that is good to know. Eventually someone would have found out anyway, but the sooner we know these kinds of things, the better. Grims now slowly eat away the rest of your health? Yeah, it's time to leg it. lol Just don't panic or lose your edge when advancing through the level. You still obviously need to make sure you're not taking unnecessary hits along the way.
So they DO gradually take more hp....I thought I was crazy. Now I know I was right about it and the little red effect on the edges of my screen were indeed it siphoning my hp
Suggestion from me: this was awesome good video for explaining the effects of grimoires on gameplay. The only thing I noticed was a bit of a jarring ending. You told the big secret after some establishing groundwork, but then it felt like you were, “Okay, that’s the end of the video!” My thought is that a smoother transition into a slightly longer summary would have been better. You could reiterate your main points better and allow the video to wind down in its dénouement without having to do anything that bloats your total runtime. Anyway, that’s just a small suggestion that I hope helps you. The video was really good though.
I knew something seemed off/different when doing grimoire runs (always felt like I was missing more health over time than I should but couldn't figure out why) but I never noticed the grim slowly ticks away. Gives me more reason to keep curios that add wounds (don't find myself going down much, but the extra buffer will be nice knowing what grims do now).
Just came across this, if you refine ya curios and have mats you can choose @ rank 4 +20% corruption resistance (GRIMOIRES) so if ya doing a grim run then that’s a good option to help with hp limit.
lol luckily grims are almost entirely useless so generally i just threaten to let someone die if they pick up a grim. generally speaking the risk of completely failing a mission is not justified by the negligible amount of XP and money the grim side objective gives, and generally speaking i refuse to hold on to the "pick up 15 grimoires/scriptures" contracts and reroll them every time.
I don't know about Grimoires but for scriptures I have found 2 in one section before. It's rare but it happens. In one case we found all 3 in a single location unseparated by airlocks or drop downs.
O yeah, I'll never remember the run when i had 8HP at the end of the mission due to that my team mates did not understand that the grimo is ticking corruption. -.-" The boss was fun, and we killed it. But we needed the Emperor's might that is for sure.... 😀
Not sure if its intentional but corruption from grims also seems to be a set number for each class. I've increased my health as ogryn with all curios with no corruption dampners and I'm barely corrupted with both grims at the same time
@@Gamermason i thought so, thanks for the reply because i wasn't 100 percent sure. With both health and corruption resistance I'm sure the problems will be minimal

Its not 25% max health per grim. That would've been smart. Our psyker loses a third of his max health with just one grim while I as an ogryn barely notice it with ~485 health. So I assume its just flat 50 Health lost.
@@Gamermason Its even worse, if the two grims are in the first half of the map, the psyker reaches just 1HP left real quick and is near death almost all the time. And even then if you run corruption ressistance grims on a psyker, lets say you even stack it two times max roll 15%, so 30%, it only reduces the flat dmg lost by 30 health from two grims, meaning from the 150 you start with you still lose almost half by default. And after 13 minutes, considering you haven't taken corrupted damage by other sources, you're back at 1HP again. Its a realy stupid design decision.
I just realised that it even gets more stupid. You can choose to have for example 15% corropted grim resistance as a perk and / or 5% health (competing with also up to 30% toughness resistance) This means that 15% grim res gives you as a psyker 7.5 more health i.e. you lose 7.5 health less, while 5% health gives you 7.5 more health which is the same and overall more usefull.
