We use Blue Ox and have been very pleased. Have a 37’ travel trailer over 10,000. Not hard to set up and has been very reliable.

The friction style ones are great till they aren’t , they become very very loud and squeal like a donkey and get worse when wet

Interesting and very educational video. I have a friend that just purchased a TT, will definitely forward this to him.
I guess ETrailer doesn’t sell the ProPride hitch? I have a fifth wheel so it isn’t important to me, but I think many would be interested in seeing a review of this product.

Camping World did the initial setup on our Equal-i-zer. We never had a bit of sway with our 37' TT but when we hit the CAT scales, we realized the system was WAY under-adjusted. I ended up completely redoing it and now it works awesome. Cool to see how all these other systems work. Great video.

They sell the PropPride 3P. Why not show a WDH that actually works to eliminate away.

JD would say to upgrade to 3500 dually because of how the heavier hitch will eat into a little of your payload. 😂

VERY well presented ! Good info. I've used traditional round bar to flat WDH for years. Just got an Andersen to try something different & lose some weight. Got tired of lugging the heavy stuff on & off. So far the Andersen has worked pretty darn well. It's so easy to take on & off & light weight. Haven't had any big side winds to really put it to the test of anti sway though.

ProPride or Hensley Hitch could have added more diverse content to this video. So many people don’t realize what they are missing out on because most RV dealers only stock these basic weight distribution hitches. Towing a bumper pull with a Suburban full of kids we won’t use anything other than a ProPride because of how much better it is at controlling sway than these hitches, plus the added benefit of a tighter turning radius.

Nice video covering the methods. One thing I have heard is that you need to match the weight distribution system rating to the trailer. If you just oversize and put a 20,000 pound weight distribution system on a 10,000 pound trailer you are at risk of damaging the trailer frame. It might be good to do something related to this area.

We still have the classic Reese HP Dual Cam setup. It's been super for us since '07. It was originally installed on our '03 Excursion and '04 Keystone 293BHS, then we upgraded to a '06 Outback 324CG, followed by a '04 F250 upgrade. Still pulling with that setup and it works great.

I have Camco R6. It uses a ball to create the resistance to sway. It's ON/OFF system no messing with any friction adjustments....

We're using the R6 too. It's so easy to use and I love how the spring bars top load which puts them by the frame instead of hanging down low.

I run a 14K lb equalizer for my small 28’ bumper pull because I got it off the classifieds used once for half price. I grew up only towing with equalizer hitches but ventured out when I got my trailer to an Andersen hitch. After a couple white knuckle rides in heavy winds I switched back to the equalizer hitch I have now. There’s a reason they’ve been around for so long.

My Dad and I have towed a 7k travel trailer for nearly 100k miles with the Reese WDH with the chains. We've had it hooked up to about a half a dozen different vehicles over the years using the same hitch. I use a 1 ton SRW truck and only drop one link and it makes a huge difference than towing without it. The "porpoising" is almost completely eliminated using it.

I learned a lot from this video, but it also left me with some new questions... How to choose which setup is right for your rig? How do you know if you only need sway control, or if you need weight distribution or braking assistance?

I don’t use a weight distribution hitch but I do use an anti-sway bar. I like the anti-sway but am concerned about the pressure a WD would put in the trailers A frame when hitting bumps or potholes. Is that a legitimate reason to not use the WD? The trailer pushes the rear of the truck down just enough to level it. No airbags or anything just a factory stock truck.

I’ve always wondered how these systems worked, but didn’t watch any videos because I have a Fifth Wheel and wouldn’t use one. Having said that, this was very interesting and, as always, you explained it in excellent detail so that any newbie could understand what’s happening with the components and why. Still not sure about the lead-in segment tho…

I’m old school…. I still run a EazLift round bar style with the chains. They are easier to operate. I don’t tow a large enough trailer to warrant a anti-sway system.
I wish etrailer sold EazLift hitches because I need some replacement parts for mine.
