Hey JR! I’m pretty experienced with ford warranty concerns. I have a 2018 5.0 Mustang, you’re going to need to go and have a ride with the shop foreman or the heavy line tech so they can hear the noise as they probably were not driving the truck when it was warmed up. Also argue to bring a new or used diesel truck out to compare the noise. My 5.0 had 3 spun rod bearings, ran completely fine and had the slightest tap/tick from the bottom end. Once I took it out for a ride with the heavy line tech, we listened to the engine together while a buddy revved it & he said he’ll take plugs out and borescope the cylinders. Once he did that, he saw scorching on the walls and when they took off the oil pan they saw metal flakes & when digging further saw the spun bearings. Car ran perfectly fine other than the tap and sounded healthy under idle! Also, the power train warranty on that truck should be 60k miles & 5 years so they should cover it. 3 year 36k is just the bumper to bumper warranty regarding the electronics & interior (such as the seat). The power train warranty will cover everything affecting the drivability of the vehicle including axles, drive shaft, fuel pump etc. If you have any issues let me know, I can try to help out! Reach me on instagram at @shadow_5.0vi
I think JR has blanked out the time the 2018 decided to coat the entire underside of the truck and his trailer with diesel fuel, forcing him to sit for hours and hours and hours waiting for AAA to show up while on a road trip. Also in my experience most dealership mechanics have such severe tinnitus and hearing issues from years of using shrieking air tools with no earpro they can't hear a thing unless a piston shoots through the block while their stethoscope is pressed against it.
When AAA did me dirty several times after nearly 20 years of premium membership, I ditched them for Good Sam. So far it has been pretty good service for the first year.
@ just because it should be doesn’t mean it will be. After all the manufactures warranty is only as good as the action taken by said entity. It’s literally dependent on if the manufacturer wants to comply with their own marketing. America in general needs to wake up and realize these huge corporations need a reality check in who they serve and who ultimately decides if their business will succeed or fail.
They listened to you and just didn't want to hear it. It's clear on the video next to that wall. So maybe they warm it up and go park next to the wall at the dealer? Good luck!
It might be 1 injector not doing its pre injection fully. Pre injection is how they quiet down the engines but I believe they program them to reduce pre injection as they age and they do get louder. Sounds like it just did 1. Maybe do a battery pull and let it do some relearning.
On the bright side, the powertrain warranty is 5 years/60,000 miles so the important part is covered for a lot more time. That tech is just being lazy. I'm a tech at a ford dealer and I see people cut corners like that more often than I'd like. Have it moved to a different/more experienced tech if you have to.
If they are giving you a hard time, and If you are adept at using the free audio editing software Audacity, or the commercial stuff like R11, you can use them to take a sample of the the engine running normally, then use that to mask out the normal engine sound and leaving just hear the sound anomaly. I wouldn't expect much if you have issue's with the engine at 33,000 miles. Nothing new is worth buying from any manufacturer from what i hear buyer's say after the event of 2020. The dealerships are terrible, because all the good tech's are retiring, and it takes awhile when you're young to develop all the skillz needed on these vehicle's with so much tech. I hope they figure it out, and you don't have to go chase down a shop that is far away to take care of the problem. That noise is definitely not normal, and it can be heard clearly in the video. Maybe it is getting ready to grenade, and they just want you to run the warranty out, hope that's not the case, but at least you have this documented in this video. We need dad 2.0 video's, your dad is to funny, but he knows a lot of stuff, and he explains thing's really well. G-d bless, and good luck.
3 year 36k warranty, that’s disgraceful , it should be a minimum of 5 years 60 k ( had to convert from kms there ) , my Chinese made Ute is 7 years unlimited kms
Dealerships are the absolute worst. It's almost unfortunate that new vehicles come with a warranty, forcing you to experience the lovely service offered by dealerships. Yet another reason to not have any interest in buying new vehicles. What a sad, sad state of the industry.
Dealerships are full of incompetent techs anymore. Had a hyundai engine replaced under warranty... shocker. I found missing clips, wires not routed correctly and i few other minor things. No attention to detail, drives me crazy.
JR I'm sorry to HEAR that you are having a weird noise from your engine. My '22 F-350 6.7L, build date of 3/26/22 and delivery date of 4/11/22, has made the same intermittent clacking noise at warm idle from the driver's side front since about the second dealer oil change. I now have 75K miles on it and I don't seem to notice the noise lately. I had a 2020 and it got better fuel economy and idled slightly higher than the 2022. I did switch to Rotella T6 15W40 versus Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic 10W30 after my FordPass points were used up. Last winter, I used the T6 5W40. I plug in the engine heater at temps below freezing and the engine starts at about 70 degrees usually. Ford has a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty on the diesel engine. I'll be past that by the time 2025 ends unless I only use the truck for towing and hauling. I have a Maverick Lariat Hybrid AWD on the way to use as my daily 104 mile commuter to replace my 2024 Versa S manual thanks to a painful replacement left knee. I'll take a drive with the Superdoodie and warm it up when it's not zero degrees and see if the noise is still there. FYI: the Motorcraft AGM batteries don't leak acid, but they are not cheap. It's weird that Ford didn't replace my corroded battery terminals or hold downs when they replaced the leaking batteries at my expense.
You Americans only have 3 years warranty and about 30K miles with that? 😳 We have 5 to 7 years warranty in Australia & unlimited kms in that time, and those sorts of issues don't arise until nearly 200,000 kilometres at least on most vehicles over here. That's really weird that those engine issues are arising, unless the US versions are built poorly.
Per Ford... "A 2022 Ford F250 diesel comes with a drivetrain warranty that covers the powertrain for five years or 100,000 miles; this means the diesel engine and drivetrain components are covered for this duration."
They don't listen, because that warranty is costing them money. Lets face it, Ford, like many other dealers, are in major trouble because the vast majority can't afford 100k vehicles. So, they will do everything they can to not honor the warranty. Even might go as far as to blame it on you.
will give you absolutely right in that sound should not be there even my diesels at over 300,000 km do not sound like that. unbelievable they can't hear the sound they probably don't drive long enough in it :-). but otherwise you have to go over and run it warm so they can hear the sound when it's there :-)
