Old Firs & Wild Bears

- This video is the result of 5D/4N in early Aug 2024 spent in Sonfjället National Park in Härjedalen, Sweden.
Besides enjoying hiking thru the beautiful nature, I had two others goals with this trip:
- spot a wild bear in the park's forest
- find a 9500 year old Mountain Fir nicknamed "Rasmus"
The bear in the video was spotted in the southernmost part of the park, where there are no trails and much fewer humans go. My method was to select a vantage point some 50-100m above the forest floor, on a rocky side of a mountain facing south, and then spend a number of hours there with my binocular, camera, food & snacks, scanning the berry-rich area for any bear that may pass thru.
The exact location of Rasmus is, for reasons of protection, kept a secret (and I shall not reveal it here), but you can read a bit about this tree at:

Back in 2009, when the above article was written, Rasmus was the oldest known tree, while another Mountain Fir, "Old Tjikko" (on another mountain), was later discovered to be even older: www.sverigesna...

The chair is "Nemo Moonlite Elite" reclining camp chair.
You can drive to the national park, ~2hrs from e.g. Östersund, park the car at either of the entry points, such as Nyvallen or Nysätern, then hike in. Not much choice but to get there by car, I think.
Your dear neighbour is a bull, Sami's word for a bull is Särv, if it's castrated a Härk.
