Retiree in The Wild
Швеция
Добавлен 23 фев 2023
Hi and Welcome to my channel!
After a 40+ years working career, I gladly retired end of 2022. This finally gave me all the time I need to explore more of the "Wild World" around us.
For me, "in The Wild" primarily means doing more Hiking, but also to experience Nature & Wildlife, Scuba Diving, and last but not least, Volcano Watching!
I kick-started this channel early 2023 by uploading a few videos from just before my retirement, while I'm since then sharing new material.
Hope you will find some of the stuff I share here enjoyable.
Cheers!

Annapurna Circuit
In Oct 2024, I did a 10-day hike on the Annapurna Circuit from Dharapani to Jomsom, including a visit to Tilicho Lake at 4919m and crossing the Thorang La pass at 5416m.
Besides enjoying the magnificent mountain landscapes, it served as a test of how well I would cope when hiking above 5000m.
It all went well, and the result is in this video, hope you enjoy it.
Cheers

3 Days in The Dolomites
Просмотров 480Месяц назад
Instead of hiking the whole Alta Via 2, I decided to first do a 3 day 'sampler' of it by doing Stages 4 (partly), 5 & 6. Though I've previously done a bit of dayhiking in the Dolomites, this was the 1st time I've had the pleasure of staying in Italian Rifugios. I enjoyed the up-close encounter with Marmots and seeing some wild Chamois in the distance, but when I revisit the Dolomites I'd like t...
Off the Beaten Path: Lapporten, Abisko
Просмотров 540Месяц назад
A 5D/4N loop starting and ending in Abisko Turiststation, going thru Lapporten - "the Gate to Lappland", crossing Kuolkusjokk river, passing Lake Áhpparjávri, and finally returning to Abisko via Kungsleden. The reason I opted for this loop, rather than spending some days on Kungsleden, was that I wanted more of that 'true wilderness' feeling you get when going off-trail (similar to Sarek NP). R...
Hiking in Lofoten
Просмотров 7 тыс.Месяц назад
This July 2024 hike in Lofoten started as a thru-hike from Sörvågen to Svolvaer, but on Day 5 I decided to make a hostel in Stamsund my base camp, and over the remaining 7 days I instead did 5 day-hikes to 5 different peaks: Ryten, Dalstuva, Flakstadtinden, Reinebringen and Festvågtinden. One of my goals when planning this trip was to camp on at least one peak, which I did on Munken's North Pea...
Old Firs & Wild Bears

This video is the result of 5D/4N in early Aug 2024 spent in Sonfjället National Park in Härjedalen, Sweden. Besides enjoying hiking thru the beautiful nature, I had two others goals with this trip: - spot a wild bear in the park's forest - find a 9500 year old Mountain Fir nicknamed "Rasmus" The bear in the video was spotted in the southernmost part of the park, where there are no trails and m...

Climbing Mt Rinjani - the Sandy Volcano
Просмотров 1775 месяцев назад
Judging by distance (28km return) & altitude gain/loss (2,600m) alone, summiting Mt Rinjani over 3D/2N wouldn't - by most regular hikers - be considered as "demanding". However, the fact that a quarter of the trail from the Sembalun crater rim up to the summit consists of very loose, volcanic sand/rocks (scree) on a 25° slope, renders it a demanding hike. Mt Rinjani (3726m) is still an active v...
Sogod Bay's Coral Haven

The main objective with this Apr 2024 trip to Sogod Bay in Southern Leyte, Philippines, was to swim with Whale Sharks (see ruclips.net/video/GGWbvmJWpfA/видео.html), and we were not expecting the dives in other parts of Sogod Bay to be as nice as they were. What we found was sizeable reefs covered with healthy, beautiful soft & hard corals, and for a moment it even reminded us of our 2019 visit...
Swimming with Whale Sharks in The Wild
Просмотров 2186 месяцев назад
Swimming with these Gentle Giants off the coast of Pintuyan in Southern Leyte is a fantastic experience, and something I've for a long time been wishing to do. IMPORTANTLY, in this area the Whale Sharks are NOT fed by humans, so the risk of interference with their normal migration & reproduction cycles is low. Needless to say, I will never support the operations elsewhere that do feed them for ...
Oasis in the City

Video footage from a few morning walks in Bukit Kiara (Kiara Hill) forest, a place in Kuala Lumpur that I regularly visit. This area is truly an "Oasis in The City" where many species thrive. I wanted to, but still didn't succeed, to capture footage of the Crested Goshawks that also live in these forested hills, though I've both heard and seen a few of these hawks during my morning walks. Hope ...
Sipadan Island

Revisiting Sipadan Island, on the east coast of Sabah in Malaysia, mainly to have a chance to catch some decent quality footage of a Chevron Barracuda 'Tornado'. In the end, we weren't as lucky this time as we were back in Nov 2018, but it's nevertheless always nice to dive around Sipadan Island. In fact, after speaking with some DM's, we learnt that it's been harder to spot such 'Barracuda Tor...

Jämtlandstriangeln (Sweden)

A 58 km, 4D/3N, hike on Jämtlandstriangeln: Storulvån - Sylarna - Blåhammaren - Storulvån. Most of all, this was a warm-up hike and a test of some new gear - including my new Durston tent - prior to the longer 8D-7N hike in Sarek National Park. That said, this is in itself a beautiful area to hike, and in spite of 3 days with mostly rain and strong winds, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope you enjoy...
Mulu Pinnacles (Malaysia)
Просмотров 511Год назад
A mini-hike (3D/2N) to the unique limestone pinnacles on the slope of Gunung Api in the Gunung Mulu National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage site. Easy hiking to "Camp 5" for the 2 nights there, while the 2.4km hike up to 1200m altitude, from where you can view the Pinnacles, is somewhat demanding. This is mostly due to the mountain slope terrain consisting of lots of sharp limestone rocks. Many...
