It was way too soon for WWE to have had that type of character. True, depictions of terrorist and/or terrorist attacks are a norm on television dramas now, but 10 years ago, even 15 years ago that was too much too soon. Though I really enjoyed the character (and I wish it were THAT character who's currently been pushed instead of that god-awful Jinder guy), I can totally understand the negative backlash. Sometimes WWE has some pretty good ideas but bad timing. This was one of those instances.

Sad story but that the wwe for you. They ran that angle even with UK bombing having just happened, instead of postponing the angle for awhile.

Daivari was also a great addition. All sorts of things went wrong from the start with Hasaan, none of which was his own doing. You mentioned they paired him with "Shawn" but he wrestled as Khosrow, another great name.

The real problem with the Hassan character is that it gradually got shifted from an Arab-American convinced that he was being wrongly persecuted towards one with actual terrorist overtones. Even if the London bombings hadn't occurred, that Undertaker strangling segment might still have made UPN massively uncomfortable.

    • @Nakedjackfrost
      @Nakedjackfrost 2 года назад

That segment was soooo dumb it was the oppisite of what his character was trying to prove and yes sure it made him even a bigger heel but in the other hand just made him looks like a terrorist in a very horrible time if that segment did not happend it was going to be okay

he got serious heat from the crowd I liked the character and thought he would do big things i thought hes only royal rumble was hilarious haha all the faces and heels teamed up beat the crap out of him and tossed him cracked me up 2005 rumble was good all round but that spot was too funny and Vince tore both quads getting into the ring and was still yelling sitting on he's ass what a character

I think given the times we were in then, Hassan did the character a little too well for some peoples taste. This also includes outside things in the press. One my oldest friends is Arab American and she and her family didn't get mad about the Hassan character.

Its a real shame for this guy because none of this was his fault. Its similar to the Colin Kaepernick situation in the potential reward for taking the gamble of keeping the character going wasnt worth the fallout of bad PR and potential loss of TV time which of course adds up to a truck load of lost revenue.

I've always thought it was a huge pity WWE mishandled the Hassan character. He was a pretty good wrestler, looked good and was a fine talker. If the character had been a little bit pulled back, he could still be a top heel in the company. As it is, the character failed and the guy portraying him is effectively black balled as well.

What they could have done was make the character face out of the gates. A Foreign heel has been done to death but a Foreign face that has the "Look not all of my race are psycho's" would probably have worked and sadly the timing was perfect to do that kind of angle. Now the time is past and they cannot make it work.

Atleast the guy is still relatively young at 36. I don’t blame him for not wanting to change the character or go back to developmental.. he would’ve been even more ruined knowing Dunn and Vince. Shame what came to be of this character! There were even rumors back in the day he was gonna get the world title off Batista! Hassan is one of the biggest what ifs in wwe history.

Honestly at the time i was digging his gimmick when he first showed up i like the whole "just cuz im middle eastern they look at me different" during the post 9/11 i like that idea but they had to mess it up and contradict the beliefs he had when he first started and it was timed wrong with the real terrorist attack is a shame he was getting so much heat and a shot at the champion wonder he still be around if none of that happened

Ivm British and I loved the Muhammad hassan character.
Don't forget WWE is a show to quote Vince McMahon "we make movies".
    I actually real miss Hassan.
He was the last great heel.
That character brought nuclear Heat that hadn't been seen since Sgt Slaughter's "American turncoat" or even the Territory days.
That whole story line was the most intriguing character.
At the end of the day wwe "we make movies".

  • @clutchhand4781

One more thing, the Muhammad Hassan character reminded me of a throwback to Iron Shiek when he supported Iran back in the 80s and when Sgt. Slaughter turned heel and supported Sadaam Hussein during Desert Storm, now that what you call heat, but then again there's good heat and bad heat.
