@@alonenjersey It sounds like someone's gone bananas. But actually, not too far-fetched about Morrison possibly being alive. Jim said he would fake his death someday.
The Doors were among the most controversial & influential rock acts of the 1960s, mostly due to Jim Morrison's lyrics & voice. "Riders On The Storm" is my favorite song by them but they had a lot of hits including "Roadhouse Blues", "The Crystal Ship", "People Are Strange", "Break On Through (To The Other Side)", "The End", "Love Me Two Times", "L.A. Woman", "Hello, I Love You", "Touch Me", "The Unknown Soldier", "Love Her Madly" etc. Sadly Jim Morrison died in 1971 at the age of only 27 but left a great legacy of music.
Once years ago I was driving down the freeway late at night on my way home from work when I happen to catch an interview of Robby Krieger the Doors guitarist who said that Riders on the Storm was the very last song The Doors ever recorded together.
He was screaming fire because it is forbidden to yell fire in a crowded theater because panic can kill. He was really raging against society. Incredible at the time
This is The Doors only appearance on Ed Sullivan. Jim and the boys were banned by the producers of the show. Jim was asked to change the lyric "Girl we couldn't get much higher" because of its drug reference. He didn't obviously and after the show when the producers told them, "You could have been on six more times" Morrison replied "Hey man, we just did the Ed Sullivan show"
"Psychedelic" is WAY overused and misused. The Doors had a couple of songs that Might border on psychedelic, but they were really a unique blend of rock, blues and jazz. As someone pointed out, they were their own genre.
The Doors are pretty much a genre unto themselves. No one sounded remotely like them back then, and people have been merely imitating them ever since. Once you hear a Doors song, you know what it is, in the same way that you know a Queen, Beatles or Beach Boys song immediately.
A real classic golden oldie. Doors were a unique band with their own sound never duplicated. Did you notice they didn't have a bass player on stage. The keyboard player often played bass on his keyboard. All of their songs are worth a listen. Keep on rocking. 🎸 🥁 😊🎉❤
The album version is a masterpiece...there is an organ then a guitar solo which are minutes long EACH and put you into a trance. This version was heavily shortened for radio and TV play.
"LA Woman" the title track of their final album was Jim's love song and farewell to Los Angeles. He moved to Paris soon after release, then died just a few months later at the age of 27. Ray Manzarek, the keyboardist, produced the first four albums for LA punk band X. Their 1980 debut album "Los Angeles" includes their cover of the Doors "Soul Kitchen", and Ray played keys on several of the songs including a rousing organ solo on "The World's a Mess: It's in My Kiss"
The doors were among the most prolific rock groups ever as I listen to them through the years I developed on anthropological descendants from each of their ascending admirations
I know they didn't have a bassist. (Until like the last album or whatever). But are you telling me that Robbie whatever his name was played electric guitar without frets?
My first concert was the Doors in 1970. What a trip! Jim was the best front man ever, & was what Mick & Robert & Roger emulated. Great song, but the album version blows this one away. ✌️❤️🎶

As a teenager in the 80's, I LOVED, and I still LOVE THE DOORS, Jim Morrison was my IDOL for years!! 😊 I used to tell people that his spirit moved into my body, I was born in 71, right around the time of his Death.
Thanks for the great reaction, Inna! I've liked & subscribed. The Doors are one of my all-time favorite bands. You have to know that when their songs first hit the radio in the US ('66/'67), 'heavy metal' really hadn't appeared yet. Led Zeppelin (at least on US airwaves) were still a few years away ('68/'69). The Doors were so original and unique that they really didn't fit into any category (although their handful of longer songs 'The End', 'When The Music's Over', and 'The Soft Parade') got classified as 'theater rock'. Try listening to their 2nd album 'Strange Days' all the way through. Imho, it's one of the top 20 or 30 best rock albums of all time. Thanks. I will check out your other reactions! 🙂
Light my fire it's a masterpiece from the first album The Doors. I always recommend you from that album, The End. Masterpiece and testament of Morrison's poem.
I live in the west and Jim Morrision said one time when Dick Clark asked Morrison why they like to live in California and all Jim said was - "The West Is The Best" He was right.
Must compliment you on your Beatles comparison, I think what you were picking up on is the latin Bossa Nova backdrop of the song which was lowkey in much of the Beatles music, good catch
"Love Me Two Times" and "Twentieth (20th) Century Fox" will be a couple of tracks you will like. You will also begin to recognize the classic Doors sound.
Jim Morrison lived like a hurricane. His songs, voice, controversial stage performances, use of drugs made The Doors a rock band we still remember. They made some great songs I still love listening to, like The End, Riders on the storm, People are stranger, Light my fire and maby L.A. Woman is my favourite of them all. Morrison's hurrican came to an unfortunate early end when he unexpectedly died at 27 in a Paris aparment. I have been to his last resting place at the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris where many other famous people are buried as well... Chopin for instance.
This was in 1966/67 when this aired. The Doors had no bass player. The bass player was the keyboardist Ray Manzarek. He'd play keyboard bass with his left hand and the right he'd play lead keyboard.
Ed Sullivan wanted the Doors to change the lyrics of the song for his show. Jim Morrison refused to do that and this was their only appearance on his show!
Listening to one Dorrs song and thinking you know what they sound like can't be any further from the truth. Jim was a poet and fan of singers like Frank Sinatra, Robby Kreiger's guitar background was flamenco/Bosa Nova, Ray Manzerick music education was classically oriented (keyboards), and John Densmoore is a jazz drummer. Their genre fits best in the psychedelic blues/rock genre, but they went wherever and did whatever they wanted. L.A. Woman, Roadhouse Blues, Touch Me, Backdoor Man, Hello I love You, Love Me Two Times, Love Her Madly, Five to One, When The Music's Over, People are Strange, Riders on the Storm, G-L-O-R-I-A, The End, Backdoor Man....etc.

Ed Sullivan band them from the show for singing the words We could not get much HIGHER ! They were supposed to change that to something else ,but sang it anyway !
The music from this trio, has a lot of pop, rock, ballad, blues, almost every modern music gender. Drumming from John Densmore is pretty underrated, and you`ll discover my dear every time you get discover song by song. The Doors were a psychedelic rock band from the 1960's... They were controversial for their time because singer Jim Morrison considered himself a poet and said whatever was on his mind without censorship, which got the band in trouble... Nowadays, their music would be considered 'tame' compared to the explicit lyrics in pop music today. But in the 60's, it was a very different time... This performance on the Ed Sullivan show in 1967 (The Beatles performed on the show in 1964 for the first time in the US) would be The Doors' only performance on it... They had a #1 single 'Light my fire' ... written by guitarist Robby Krieger on their 1967 debut album 'The Doors'... the band was asked to change the lyrics from "Girl we couldn't get much higher..." (because the show's producers didn't want a drug reference on air) to "Girl we couldn't get much better..." Jim Morrison sang the original line twice... The Doors were never asked back to perform on the show, even after another #1 single came later - "Hello, I love you"... The Doors were depicted in a rather dramatic and trippy biopic movie by Oliver Stone titled 'The Doors'... released in 1991 starring Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison... and actress Meg Ryan as his girlfriend (later wife) Pamela. Jim Morrison was a college student in California and an aspiring poet when he met Ray Manzarek on a beach in 1965... Manzarek was an organ player and loved Morrison's poetry and asked to join a band that would give Jim Morrison a vehicle to perform his poetry onstage... Robby Krieger (guitar) and John Densmore (drums) joined and The Doors were formed and played regularly in local clubs... Jim Morrison struggled as a singer at first, but over time, he developed a charisma and onstage image that drove women wild... He was also using drugs and that made him unpredictable onstage where he would improvise his lyrics as The Doors played live. The Doors were signed in 1966 to Elektra Records... but the band was notoriously fired from the L.A. club Whiskey a-go-go after Jim Morrison improvised a rather disturbing depiction of murder at the end of the song 'The end'... The Doors released their self-titled debut in 1967 and 'Light my fire' became a # 1 single and the band became famous overnight and Jim Morrison became a reluctant rock star - he just wanted his poetry to be heard but stardom increased his drug use and appetite for women offstage. In late 1967, Jim Morrison verbally berated the police from the stage (He had an incident w/ a cop backstage and was upset) at a show in Connecticut and was arrested... Charges were later dropped. More success came w/ the album 'Strange days'... and 'Waiting for the sun' in 1968 as The Doors scored another #1 single "Hello, I love you"... but a frustrated Jim Morrison felt that pop fans were not taking the band or his poetry seriously the way The Doors' early fans had in smaller venues. Their single 'Touch me' became another #1 selling single in 1968. At a1969 show in Miami, Florida... a drunk Jim Morrison was a disaster and authorities accused the singer of exposing his junk in public at the concert and he was arrested and charged for indecent exposure... Morrison was convicted without any evidence that he had exposed himself... Even photographers at the show said he did not. Jim Morrison wanted to quit The Doors, but Ray Manzarek asked him to stay and complete the album 'The soft parade' in 1969. In 1970, The Doors returned w/ the album 'Morrison Hotel' and it is considered one of their best records w/ songs like 'Roadhouse blues'... 'Waiting for the Sun'... 'Peace frog'... A live album 'Absolutely live' charted at #8 in the US that year. However, Jim Morrison's addictions and onstage fits left the band unable to tour again after late 1970. Producer Paul Rothchild also quit working for the band after producing all their records. In 1971, The Doors recorded and released their final album w/ Jim Morrison - 'L.A. Woman'... w/ Bruce Botnick producing... It sold very well, becoming their 2nd biggest-selling record w/ hit songs - 'Riders of the storm' ... 'L.A. Woman'... While appealing his Florida conviction, Jim Morrison and wife Pamela left for Paris, France... a few months later in 1971, Jim Morrison was found dead by Pamela in their bathtub at age 27, likely from heart failure as a result of years of drug abuse ... Pamela Morrison passed away 3 years later from a drug OD. Jim Morrison was the 3rd iconic rock star death after the tragic passing of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin just before him. The Doors attempted 2 more albums as a trio w/ Ray Manzarek singing... but they failed without Jim Morrison and split up soon after. They did reunite in the studio to record music to Jim Morrison's spoken word poetry which was released in 1978 as 'An American Prayer'. Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger did spend a few years playing The Doors' songs together in concert after 2000, but were prevented by Morrison's family and drummer John Densmore from legally using The Doors name... Ray Manzarek passed away in 2013.
They were all such good musicians. Robbie was underrated as a guitarist. His style fit in so well. And Ray, John... I liked this version the best as far as Jim's vocals. He belts it out! But I prefer some of the other live versions as far as the instrumentals, because they do the long versions.
If you think about it, the doors were out before led zeppelin. Zep didn't release their first album until 69. Jim Morrison was amazing. I listened to an interview with Ray on keyboards that there were times that Jim would be so high that he couldn't come out and sing. So Ray would sing and people thought it was Jim singing backstage. Cheers
Jim did not have a lot of vocal range but man when he got into a song he shredded his vocal cords. He knew he only had to do two songs that day and went for it in this song. The other is People are Strange that is almost a talking vocal. They were banned from the show for saying "higher" in the lyrics. Ed Sullivan show was the biggest TV show at that time.
Doors my favorite band and Jim Morrison my favorite singer ,,He was famous for his deep, baritone voice, uncommon for a rock singer at that era , he was very controversial the epythome of the rock star, sexy charismatic, good looking ,wild , He created the archetype of the rock star in leathers , he was a highly intellectual guy, considered himself rather a poet..The Doors were a unique mixture of psychodelic, rock blues , jazz..unfortunatelly due to his destructive self he died very young in Paris .There's a movie about them directed by Oliver Stone .
The band was warned not to say the word "higher" on this performance before they went out. They said they would, but instead, Jim went out there and sang it the way it was supposed to be sung with the word "higher", and when they finished, they were told they'd be banned from the show and never play on it again. The Doors never did play the Ed Sullivan show after this. But they didn't care.. they had just done the show 😁
We forgive u, Inna. U have such a sweet, warm personality. I love that u wanna learn and seems like u are really enjoying and embracing this journey. It’s fun to watch. The Doors were amazing! Morrison was one of the greatest lyricists ever. The Doors were one of the most unique bands ever.
Jim Morrison and The Doors are among the best of classic '60s rock. Ray Manzarek on keyboards, a big part of their signature sound. Perhaps you know that Morrison is buried in Paris, France.
It's debated what Jim Morrison's actual words were when he was told that they were banned and would never play the Ed Sullivan show again. He replied " We just did the Ed Sullivan show". Rock on
The Doors were pretty much their own thing. Definitely their own flavor of psychedelia. I've always liked them, but I know some people hate them. You should definitely check out Riders On The Storm or The End next.
I would have bet money that you've heard the Doors somewhere. Maybe, you have and didn't know who it was. Like other 60s bands, their music is in Vietnam and pop culture movies. "Light my fire, Hello I love you, 20th century fox, LA woman, Break on through, Back door man, Riders on the storm, People are strange," and there are more. THE DOORS, is one of the biography movies out there and has Val Kilmer as Jim. Yes, Val does the singing. Keep livin' and learnin', Inna.
some background info : when Jim screams at 4.12 there was meaning behind that , that was for his parents looking in AND everyone at UCLA who thought he was a crazy loser who would laugh at him saying he was simply nuts , his father was on record as saying the idea of him being in a band was a "crock" and it would lead nowhere this was a kind of payback for all the doubters and there were alot there always are its human nature to ridicule the unusual the unknown the intensity of that scream was purposeful designed to wake everyone up

I bet you would enjoy "Touch Me." 👍😊
They were all such good musicians. Robbie was underrated as a guitarist. His style fit in so well. And Ray, John... I liked this version the best as far as Jim's vocals. He belts it out! But I prefer some of the other live versions as far as the instrumentals, because they do the long versions.
Iconic!!! Please watch the movie with Val Kilmer.
You said he looks so serious, he's probably tripping his balls off. That was good acid back in the sixties.
Inna and the Doors! Can it get any better than this?
If you think about it, the doors were out before led zeppelin. Zep didn't release their first album until 69. Jim Morrison was amazing. I listened to an interview with Ray on keyboards that there were times that Jim would be so high that he couldn't come out and sing. So Ray would sing and people thought it was Jim singing backstage. Cheers
Check out The Doors When the music is over live at the Hollywood bowl, love the performance.
Ciao da Napoli, Italia.
It's psychedelic rock from the sixties. If you like, you will adore "Too much to dream last night" by the Electric Prunes.
Remember one thing, this was late 60s and the doors were changing the music industry
During the late sixties, The Rolling Stones were dark, the Doors were dread!
Good choice of clip. It’s one of the very rare times Jim was sober enough to perform.
But they didn't care.. they had just done the show 😁
Eres. La mejor viva el ROCK
GREAT...
We forgive u, Inna. U have such a sweet, warm personality. I love that u wanna learn and seems like u are really enjoying and embracing this journey. It’s fun to watch. The Doors were amazing! Morrison was one of the greatest lyricists ever. The Doors were one of the most unique bands ever.
ed sullivan show was everything in those days afterall, ed introduced us to the beatles in 1964
Detesto cuando veo bailar a alguien cancioes de The Doors , su musica era seria, seria seria y honesta
🎊 “L.A. Woman” (1971) will blow your DOOR’s off!!!
Now we know where Bono got his look from.
Great reaction, Inna!
Much more from the Doors for you. You'll like the Crystal Ship I'd bet
Jim Morrison and The Doors are among the best of classic '60s rock. Ray Manzarek on keyboards, a big part of their signature sound. Perhaps you know that Morrison is buried in Paris, France.
The Doors are a group which you should listen to complete albums.
It's debated what Jim Morrison's actual words were when he was told that they were banned and would never play the Ed Sullivan show again. He replied " We just did the Ed Sullivan show".
Rock on
Instead of saying: "Girl we couldn't get much higher." Ed Sullivan was told the lyrics would be changed to "Girl we couldn't get much better."
There's only one person who can do justice in covering this song. Check out Light My Fire, Jose Feliciano.
The Doors were pretty much their own thing. Definitely their own flavor of psychedelia. I've always liked them, but I know some people hate them. You should definitely check out Riders On The Storm or The End next.
I got so into The Doors in my 20s.
Keep livin' and learnin', Inna.
some background info : when Jim screams at 4.12 there was meaning behind that , that was for his parents looking in AND everyone at UCLA who thought he was a crazy loser who would laugh at him saying he was simply nuts , his father was on record as saying the idea of him being in a band was a "crock" and it would lead nowhere this was a kind of payback for all the doubters and there were alot there always are its human nature to ridicule the unusual the unknown the intensity of that scream was purposeful designed to wake everyone up
You light my fire😍
This is Acid Rock although this song is more pop. Their music is unmatched.
A reaction to The Doors movie would be a good one to. Great movie.
The microphone is for the drums.
It's in the name door s
