    Rok straps are key. Much safer than bungees. I also took the passenger pad off the backrest like you/Ashlie for more room.

    Great video Adam!
    My days of sleeping beside my bikes aren't done but I pack a tent now for my comfort. The tent i made is big enough with the awning to shelter my bike or me while working on a bike. The only thing I pack differently is tools! Whether in saddlebags or panniers I make a tool roll and attach it to the inside securely. This keeps tools with the bike at all times and keeps the weight next to the frame. I cannot afford multiple jump packs so that one tool gets transferred between bikes or my pickup.
    Good luck on your trip, stay safe doing the rallys you wouldn't catch me dead at. Hey, not all of us like crowds!
    With Love and Respect, you are in my prayers
    Hoka Hey

    I got your seat on the first run production and it's great. I also roll my clothes when traveling. I usually don't do laundry while on the road. I take old clothes I don't want anymore. I wear them for a couple of days then pitch them.

    Good tips. You are right, riding comfort is very important and therefore is better to load less than more things. In case of emergency you can buy t-shirt or trousers anywhere.
    What I would recommend is to have packed rain gear in one separate bag. The same cosmetic bag. Then, not to take 7 sets of clothing but 1+1. One dressed and one spare. But, both from synthetic materials. You can give it a quick wash, really not more than few minutes, in the sink with plain soap and it will be dry by morning. We're on a motorcycle trip, not a fashion show. Cotton clothes sweat fast and dry long. Just one short-sleeved and one long-sleeved shirt for the city walking. Then, instead of classic lamp is better headlamp. You will have 2 free hands. Good thing is cable lock for locking the helmet and jacket (through the sleeve) on the motorcycle during walking in the city or visiting some attractions.
    Time ago I bought also the waterproof bag, but I never used it. Saddlebags are enough. Also dividing the bags for "personal" and "moto" is important. Saves many space and also is safe.

  • @1AXMRDR
    @1AXMRDR 9 месяцев назад +1

    Lots of good points. I too have a Road King. When doing a multi day trip I have a tour pack that I use to lock up camera/drone/etc. type stuff. It quick releases and sits on the wall when I'm not on a trip. Clothes in a 50 liter dry bag sit on the passenger seat. Sunblock and baby wipes are in the top of the high side saddle bag because I use them often. Also have bar bags that hang on the front saddle bar for tire pump/plug kit and tools. We use many of the same techniques for everything else. Usually plan a 'short day' every 5th day to end riding early to do some laundry and get extra rest.
    Knowing your history, you are the guy to listen to for packing tips. Been watching since you were sleeping next to your bike.

    Lots of good tips in there. Id add one more thing that ya didnt cover.....its nice if you can balance the weight in the two saddlebags and get them at least close. I had all my tools, jump pack, compressor and tire repair kit on one side, and used the other side for our (riding two up) rain gear and a few other items. Well....I could definitly feel the heavy side every time we came to a stop light with the full load and large back on the sissy bar too. She would lean to the right side (low/kickstand side) because I put all that "probably wont need gear" on that side and it was heavy.

    I ride light, thus no need to setup-change on the shocks much or any. Klockwerks was a instant decision once I rode my Chieftain first time in 2019, never looked back. Running adaptive lights of JWspeaker. 95tkm on my stock seat and many 500+miles or 12h+ rides, all comfy. I travel w/o external luggage. The cases give me all space I need for my 1day to 5 months travel, excluding tent/camp-stuff that‘s the only external bag, if I need it. Nobody will see me as a traveller, everything is in locked side-cases, tools at the bottom, rain-gear and rescue at the corner (no need to pull all the crap out if you quickly need access for rain coming or already on you). They even have space for 2 small water bottles to sip on a wild stop. That said, it includes all day cold autumn/winter ride gear, books, writing-stuff, music player & knobs, jeans, shirts, toiletries, 1st aid, a 12v compact air compressor, tire repair kit, 2 locks (1x alarm to save the bike-battery as bike-alarms suck them overnight, 2-level safety), lots of tools, raingear, fotogear, all, in carry on-weekender/rucksack bags, ready to pull and go at hotel stops.
    If I go shopping, I either send it home, pay the shop to do it. Or get me a cheap solid bag and tie it with my straps (rock-straps and bungee net) to the backseat-replacing-grid, dust and rainproof. Navigation is onboard, my phone stays on me, no valid argument to put it on the bike (charge your battery bank on the bike if you need power, charge your phone in your pocket with the bank).
    It‘s all gas and go, Morocco, northcape, turkey, greece, uk, it doesn‘t matter, same thing. 3 days? I won‘t pack anything, technicalities are on the bike, all the time, each bike has it‘s own kit. Only add my camera kit of choice, a toothbrush, an extra shirt and go.
