Ya gotta understand, Voiceplay fans LOVE Vio-Layne whenever he shows up.
Us Players get really excited over 2 things.... hearing Layne sing AND when we get VioLayne. It doesn't happen very often so when it does, it's very special.

Geoff is such an arrangement genius. The violin was a fabulous choice in my opinion.
This is a mind-blower. It really is. And yeo, one never stops be surprised by Geoff. One of the best covers ever!
Have you seen "Encanto?" Voiceplay does a fantastic "We Don't Talk About Bruno" with the lovely Ashley Diane. Keep your eyes open though. There's a lot of little visual delights in it. Maybe you could do it with your daughter as a bonus video? Oh, and did you know Encanto was written by the same guy who wrote Hamilton?
Some fool said this couldn't be done a capella. They proved them wrong. Say hello to Violayne aka The Carrot Lord. Now that J. None is stationed in Washington DC. We will get to see more of him. I vote for HALO!

Originally Geoff had left that guitar part out. Layne didn’t agree and recorded himself doing that part (voice only). Geoff agreed that it shouldn’t be omitted, but asked Layne to do it on the violin. He already had the nickname Violayne from having played on Warriors. (And briefly on one since then)
A producer saw this video and invited Voiceplay to come to Atlantic City last November and sing in a couple of concerts with Chicago. (They did and the concert video will be streamed (probably on AppleTV) and sold on BluRay by spring.
If I have to pick just one song to end the week it would have to be Drunken Sailor. It never fails to put a smile on people’s faces. (Just make sure you’re not paying such close attention to Geoff that you miss what others may have to say. (You’ll know what I mean when you get there.)

It looks like a lot of people want Halo and I don’t disagree. But if you choose that on please watch all the way through the outro. You’ll learn a lot about the group and their reason for doing that song.

Thx for your reaction, I always loved this song and this is one of the most beautiful and touching renditions I've ever heard, it's on my daily playlist. Although not entirely a capella, I must say the violin is so great here, it fits perfectly!

Of course he was being a smartass. Who could ever be genuinely disappointed with the boys at voice play. They all shine bright, even Geoff shining with his disgusting vocal range. I don't think even Tim foust can equal Geoff in pure body and power in his voice going low and high.

You aren't the first, and most likely not the last, to have Voiceplay make you like/love a song you didn't care for before. For the reaction tomorrow I recommend their version of Halo, but stay all the way through to the end.

I haven't seen it recommended a lot, so my vote is for "Queen in 5 Minutes." You'll get to see Earl, the high tenor from one of VoicePlay's earlier lineups.

When this came out I was shocked voiceplay might have peaked for the year in the first months. Then they released Valhalla calling to make you really think which was better
When you were having trouble with Layne’s name at the start of the week i wanted to say a good way to remember is “vio-Layne” as “vio-Lance” sounds a little scary intense but didn’t want to give away any violin spoilers 😂
I believe the accepted rule in a capella is if the instrument is seen then it is a feature not an aid. Carry on Wayward Son or Superstition are my votes. Thanks for extending VoicePlay week! Yea!! ❤

Every acapella group has added an instrument (rarely). This is the fourth time VioLayne has made an appearance.
Yea for one more day. It will not take the top spot, but react to I Can't Make You Love Me anyway. Trust me.
Pretty sure this was only the second time we got VioLayne. Previous to this was only "Warriors". Since then, we have "Lion Sleeps Tonight" with a short bit of it. And Cesar amazingly goes even above the violin in that one!
There was a guitar solo in the original. Geoff had done the "guitar" for Layne but right at the end he asked Layne to pull out that violin. Nice to know where his nickname "VioLayne" comes from. He's only done it 3 times in 27 yrs. Warriors (Imagine Dragons), this one, The Lion Sleeps Tonight. My choice is one that will let you really know Cesar's voice - "I Can't Make You Love Me" (Bonnie Raitt).

Accapella does have allowances for the occasion instrument and since VioLyne has only graced us with three songs we love seeing him. And they actually did have it worked out for Layne to vocalize the guitar solo until Geoff suggested he try it in the Violin (he's been playing since he was 4) and the rest is history. Wonderful exciting marvelous history 🥰😄😁😆😅🤣😂😋

The Vio-Layne is always a good thing. That is the thing with covers...they are not copies.
We love #VioLayne. Voiceplay even made a shirt that says VIOLAYNE on the front (with the "O" being the Voiceplay logo) and then on the back it says Acapella: it's better with instruments.

Speaking of songs we don’t like that Voiceplay rocks, I wasn’t a fan of Encanto (didn’t hate it, just not for me) but their We Don’t Talk About Bruno is incredible and hilarious. I love when Ashley Diane sings with them. If you didn’t see Encanto or can’t stomach musicals (their Little Mermaid Medley is a forever fav of mine…Geoff as Ursula is insane) then my vote is for Running Up That Hill. I don’t see that as often on the recs so I hope you’ll come back to it one day. Thank you for the reaction :)

I had the same thought. So I looked it up.
It's still considered acapella if they use only one instrument and it's in full view.
Layne couldn't do the drum solo guitar solo he played the violin instead. He's been playing the violin since he was 4 years old. He's now 43. He also plays violin in "Warriors" and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" videos.
My recommendation for Saturday is one of their live videos from a long time ago and is funny as all heck. I've seen it a million times over the past 2 years and still laugh laugh laugh.

When they were touring before covid their shoes were mostly comedy music skits. A couple more favorites... "Elvira" and "Chicken Song" for later down the road 😉

In a capella music, a pitched instrument is permitted, if it is used as an additional voice, whch is how the violin is used.
Unpitched percussion is also permissible.

Wrong! The singing is almost entirely a capella, it is not acompanied. Yes there is an instrumental solo but that doesn't mean that the singing is not acapella.
