"they are silicone but come in a little plastic..." silicone is also "plastic". I learned that quite late. Just like the glue of a gluegun (and also wood-glue, probably most glues). Fleece is plastic. (That are are all plastics that I somehow didnt think of as fossil)
silicone is not petroleum based. it is derived from silica. lower quality silicone can definitely be mixed with things like vinyl, which can be an issue, so sticking with medical grade platinum silicone is a good idea especially if you're using it for food or a sensitive area (like menstrual cups or adult toys).
also synthetic fleece is plastic, yes. real fleece is wool, a fleece is literally what comes off the sheep when it is sheared.
@@kitssewingkit There is not ONE silicone and there is not "pure" silicone. "Vinyl" is a different name for PVC. In silicone you can find different vinyl groups, not PVC. To produce silicone, methane(and for some types petroleum) is used because you need carbon. But yes, the main ingredient is not fossile - but to get it the silicon dioxide needs to be heated to 2100°C to melt it. Silicone is not recycled, its burned.
