@@davidhill8565indeed, adding to this, the arrangements for the Pixel Remasters were mixed for me. Some of the arrangements were solid but many ruined the atmosphere. I actually couldn't stand the cacophonous arrangement for Pandemonium, the final maze theme for FF2. It was way too much for me. FF4's Zeromus battle arrangement was also a massive swing and a miss, omitting guitar when the song is begging for crunchy guitar goodness. Both arrangements had those Latin tinged choirs. The end result? Both arrangements sounded like ass. Cacophonous, noisy ass.
As someone with no nostalgia for the series, the battle presentation is pretty disappointing. I'm sure it calls back to the original, but I would have preferred to see the party do their attacks.
They did that for DQ7's 3DS version sadly that alone made it take LONGER TO MASTER all 54 jobs the game has since once certain jobs are mastered I no longer USED the fight command for the rest of the game.
Bro got so excited, his voice cracked! This game just seems to be doing everything right that a remake can do. I never thought we'd actually get these remakes, and I can't wait!

while this is my most anticipated game of the year i am a little bummed they removed the ability to pick your sex. i liked the funny small quirky dialog changes that happened when you picked a female hero lol

It's a game that kind of needs a remaster as there are a number of glitches that can make progression odd and also really open ended travel/story exploration. The Seven Star sword tech that lets you trivialize battles, Tatyana a girl you get in a lot of the early towns you run into her a lot, but unlike the other characters she has a mostly unfinished story for Romancing Saga characters, etc.
It looks SO good. They seem to have found a sweet spot for how to remake old Retro Games with DQ3 and the Suikoden 1 & 2 remasters (btw Konami WHERE ARE YOU)
Started playing the DQ games recently. I and II were pretty basic and boring, but III blew me away completely. I played through it blind and the sense of adventure and discovery beats any NES and SNES JRPG I've ever played. Starting on IV now. If you haven't played any DQ games, I suggest you start now. Incredible series.
When you said "why aren't we seeing english articles and video in english" i agreed they really neglect the west ever since i was a kid and they didn’t give us Dq5, Dq6, FF5. This game looks great and can't wait for it.
This is my most anticipated game of the year so I do have a lot of expectation from it, im curious to know what other new features have they added as well as if they've added in new location and how the story will be affected. In octopath traveller 2 I liked how you can steal off of NPC's I really hope they add this in the game
Never played the first DQ games so pretty stoked to play these remade versions! That said, an awful lot of amazing JRPGs this year. Not sure how to find the time for them all.
Very nice graphics - I still don't understand why they're calling this "HD 2D" instead of "2.5D". On the other hand, I just played the Switch ports of the Erdrick trilogy a couple of years back, so I'd kinda prefer to save my money for other games like Visions of Mana and Zelda Echoes of Wisdom. Maybe if I can get a Steam sale price on this one, otherwise I'm more interested in seeing remakes/remasters of DQ 4 through 9.
Because 2.5D refers to making 3D look like 2D or vice versa, like Super Mario RPG on SNES or Guilty Gear Xrd/Strive. HD-2D still uses 2D sprites with higher quality while keeping old school feel.
I first played the GBC version during my teen years. I've been hooked on the series ever since, but 3 will always hold a special place in my heart. Can't wait for this Remaster!
World wide releases are always like this to my knowledge. The Japanese players have always gotten games such as Dragon Quest first to act as final quality assurance testers outside the development teams as a check for anything going overseas. If a game somehow doesn't meet their standards they'll now update it and the intended western release of the game asap to ensure that it can sell somewhat to decent amount overseas, even if it's a known title like Dragon Quest that's generally seen as good. If they don't think it's going to work overseas they may put out an announcement cancelling said western release. Despite the age of download gaming now, you can't always trust your sales numbers for games even as notable as DQ.

DQXI let Zoom work indoors too. And I didn't play the 3DS remakes (nor DQX, since it's not available in English), so for all I know it's possible that hitting your head on the ceiling hasn't been a thing since the DS games.
I'll be honest, I'm one of those DQ fans that enjoys the 3D battle system more than the old school 2D one. While I wish we had actual character animations for attacks, the game still looks positively insane!
Love the updated QOL saving and other features. One thing remakes/remasters should have is QOL features that have made gaming more enjoyable! Sounds like we're getting an orchestrated remake of the soundtrack like the amazing job done in the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster. Thanks for the continued updates David! Can't wait for this!
looks like you can now equip two weapons and swap mid battle.. and they both shows in the battle model. in the past we can just equip whatever during battle, so this maybe a speed thing
The one thing I'm not a fan of is having maps in dungeons. I 100% feel like dungeons should not have maps. Maybe I'm just oldschool, but part of the dungeon-crawling experience is feeling lost and trying to make your way through. If you can just pull up a map and see where to go immediately, that's going to ruin it a bit for me. If they made the map fill in gradually as you explore, that would be a different story, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Everything else though, is right up my alley and I'm unbelievably excited for this game!
The way David names the enemies and spells, I am assuming he has never played the remakes and only played the original NES version. I think this is a good preview. :)

as for Jobs the Wizard/Black mages CAN equip Boomerangs but at level 10 they will do more damage with spells so give the Boomerang to the Hero or in my case the Gadabout/Thief class in the full game.

STOP IGNORING DRAGON QUEST 7, 8, AND 9!!!! THEY EXIST!!! HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO GET THESE THREE REMADE AND NOT GET A REMASTER OF 7-9?!!! BOTH 7 AND 8 ARE HELLA BETTER THAN 1-3 IN MY OPINION!!! At least give us a remaster of 8 and i will be a happy man!!!!
@@davidvinc I think the boomerang being in the chest in Najimi tower is a bad omen in that regard. The boomerang is typically located in Pachisi Track #1.
I know I have the unpopular opinion, but I would enjoy a game with the 2D-HD graphics but with the FF7 Rebirth modern battle system and modern save system, auto saving and save anywhere.

One neat feature I noticed is that the character sprites are holding their equipped weapons and shields during battle.
But the warrior still got his big axe in his back while fighting with a wooden piece 😅

HD-2D mode should be added to Dragon Quest XI S. Maybe an Unreal Engine 5 version of 3D mode.
I think my favorite bit of sprite work was right at the end, with the Magicians throwing Frizz'es at us.
Checking the 🎵 Barrrel 🎵 is a different game. Still, same, check the barrel and drawers, and cabinets...

Hard to remember a game I was this excited for. I guess the last would have to be DQ 11 and Hogwarts Legacy.

It's 70 euros where I live, that's 76 dollars, I don't know about that... Huge DQ fan, but for a price that high for a 2D remake I'll probably wait.

I hope not :( This only shows the game on the first continent, and we didn't get the Pachisi boards till Kazave, so I hope they're still there.
