  • Senator Al Franken is a former comedian and says he is well schooled on what is absurd. He finds the reasons from Republicans to block President Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland are that - absurd. And then dismantles the GOP logic during Thursday's Senate Judiciary Committee meeting.

      Weather the borders are secure or not does not make or break white America. that is not the real issue, the issue is power in the majority and you are after the Mexicans who have no ill will, between them and us put together you will be in the minority, you either give the power up or share it... by next election you white advantage will be gone, Then we can start passing some laws for all of us, not just a few!!!

      NO fool...i have my own health care...Stop side stepping the question...were is the republican plan?..Where is TRUMPS PLAN??...The republicans should be rolling out a perfect plan 100 times better than the ACA on day one...why are we not hearing about their wonderful plan it should be all over the news the same as the ACA was for an entire year, they had the same amount of time as Obama did to come up with much better plan...were is it??..FUNNY HOW ABSOLUTLY NO ONE KNOWS THE DETAILS OF TRUMPS MAGNIFICENT PLAN EXCEPT AND I QUOTE " Its gonna be wonderful, the most beautiful thing, just wonderful your gonna love it" that is the bullshit line you idiots swallowed, hook line and stinker!!....so stop your spin deflecting bullshit...I don't give a fuck about what you think you do not owe, there are still millions of republicans and democrats black people white people who need affordable health care...All that bullshit talk and they got nothing on day one...NO REAL PLAN BECAUSE THEY NEVER HAD ONE and if they do have one , well it would be nice to actually tell the public what it is in great well informed detail..."crickets chirping"

      John Smith. Your type of comment shows how large the chasm is between 'factual' thought and ignorant 'stoicism' brought on by the purposeful lies of ideological tea party hacks. We all pay for health care. You pay for the E.R. I just hope people would have an informed opinion. An opinion everyone has. An informed opinion takes work and diligence.

      + terry tee And that goes to show you what the GOP really think of the "People". They hated the ACA from the start and had what, at least 6 years to come up with something better? Where is it? They never intended to replace it with something better. They want it back to the way it was so the insurance companies can rip us all off again. Hand in Hand if you know what I mean.

      +Ryan Langford Comedians are about the only people who speak truth to power. All 535 members of congress understand the absurdity of how they're making their living. Senator Franken, whom I deeply respect, is one of a handful who actually speaks out against the charade that passes for governance in this country.

    • @randyphillips2263

      +Michael Colloton Long ago I saw an interview with Joan Rivers. She said comedians HAVE to tell the truth or they are done for.

    • @michaelcolloton6971
      @michaelcolloton6971 8 лет назад +1

      +Randy Phillips I can't totally disagree with you, but there are different breeds of comedians. There's George Carlin and there's Steven Wright. The former is held to a higher standard of truth than the latter. The comedian's primary job isn't necessarily to tell the truth; it's to make people laugh, for whatever reason. Both do (because George will live forever) their jobs very well. As does Joan.

    • @storybeliever
      @storybeliever 8 лет назад +1

      +Michael Colloton Comedy requires a play on truth to be funny. The unconscious mind reacts to humor first. Conservatives cannot create comedy because they rely on doublespeak and dishonesty to maintain their positions. Many conservative outlets have tried to replicate The Daily Show and they've all failed.
      Show me a list of prodigious comics and I'll show you a list of liberal luminaries.

    • @34672rr
      @34672rr 8 лет назад

      +Randy Phillips Nah, I doubt that. Comedians are masters of exaggeration. Political comedians are by the strict definition, demagogues. Jon Stewart was the best. When you make people laugh, you trigger their pleasure center and by pavlovian conditioning, you create a sense of truth even when there is none. This is particularly effective when a certain issue is vague and can be seen in more than one way, and can cement a viewpoint which otherwise would be ambiguous.
      i admit, this happened to me. After 9/11 after all of the islamophobia of the right, the daily show convinced me that islam was not all that bad, and that jihadism was the fault of western foreign policy. I have since come to understand this is total nonsense. It's based on islam in the west and the US, which is tempered by western society, but where islam runs rampant, it is horrible for women and apostates and atheists and adulterers, etc.
      The great thing is, that there are no good comedians that are conservatives, so the demagoguery works to the left's advantage.

    I loved Al Franken on SNL, but I love and appreciate him so much more as Senator Al Franken. He is speaking so clearly, but Orrin Hatch seems totally confused. What is his problem? Aside from the fact that he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer? Alright, maybe that IS the problem.

    • @davidcole478
      @davidcole478 8 лет назад +3

      +clarice525 Orrin Hatch is 81 years old and either pushing the envelope on senility, dementia or both. I'm surprised he doesn't have an aid to lead him to the restroom and get him back to the Senate floor....within a day or two.

      +clarice525 There are currently 5 Octogenarians serving in the Senate: 1) Diane Feinstein 82 2) Chuck Grassley 82 3) Orrin Hatch 82 (toda(y's [March22nd] birthday boy!) 4) Rich Shelby 81 and 5) Jim Inhofe 81. Four of the top 5 are Rebulicans. The next spry youngster to join the club will be 79 year old Pat Roberts on April 20th.
      Pat Leahy, a veritable toddler at 75 years old has served the longest at 41 years. Orrin 39 years, Thad Cochrin 37 years, Chuck Grassley 35 years and Mitch McConnell 31 years, have been collecting dust the longest. The other 95 Senators aren't even close.

    • @davidcole478
      @davidcole478 8 лет назад +3

      Michael Colloton You know, I'd say maybe a portion of the power trip thing is still in play...but, Hatch, Grassley and McConnell have a combined 105 years of service as professional politicians. I wish this next comment were funny...but, it's really just pathetic. It's becoming painful to watch Hatch and Grassley try to string together two coherent thoughts, McConnell wants to give veto power to the NRA over a Senate confirmation of a Supreme Court nominee.
      These guys have gone WAY around the bend and the people who work with them on a daily basis won't point out to them how mentally deficient they've become.
      Hatch was once a renowned Constitutional scholar...now he and his 2 colleagues are barely lucid. Time catches up to us all gentlemen.

      ***** "Obama will not be allowed to inflict any more harm on the Supreme Court.."? What the hell are you talking about? It is the President's duty to nominate someone to fill the vacancy presently on the Supreme Court. It is the Senate's duty to interview and vet that nominee. Why isn't the Senate doing their damn job? And why is it that Republicans are all for the "rule of law", until things aren't going their way? Then suddenly it's an all day whine fest, "Hey, that's not fair!! We want to both choose and replace a judge that will be a stinking activist judge like Scalia who, happily for us, made decisions like 'corporations are people, too. Hooray!!"
      What a complete blockhead you are.

    • @samlefoy
      @samlefoy 8 лет назад

      clarice525 Dems are the one's whining, The majority of the Senate have advised Obama that consent will not be given. He shouldn't have even tried, he was told before hand and before you go on and on about obstructionism or not doing job's, this is not new which I am sure you know. Biden and Schumer's speeches about not confirming and even more damaging to the dems is when Obama as a senator filibustered Sam Alito. Reid, Schumer, Clinton, and many others participated in this filibuster. Alito was confirmed, but it wasn't from lack of trying on the Dems side. They simply didn't have enough votes to stop it. Now that it is reversed, Republicans have enough to stop this one. Obama himself has said that he regrets his actions, so spare me your half baked liberal, twisted logic, hussy.

    The Congress has, at last count, an 8% approval rating. That's lower than at any time since such statistics were kept. Yet a sitting member of Congress, from either house, has better than a 95% chance of being reelected. Eight percent of the American electorate approves of Congress, yet it continues to re-elect its own representatives. After all, it's the other 534 guys who are incompetent, not "my guy", After all, he got federal money to put lights on our HS football stadium. But god, I hate socialism.

    At 7:25 when Orrin Hatch tried to suggest that Robert Bork didn't have a hearing before the Senate... mental gymnastics at its best.
    "I didn't say that", " No I just said..." "Oh I MEANT to say thats where it all began".
    Funny how this train of non thought is used when trying to rationalize religion.

      +marine919 ...when was this "Biden Rule" voted on, accepted, and enshrined as an official Congressional procedure? when was it then subsequently ever invoked or used (prior to this current, manufactured situation)? when was it implemented and used to deny an actual Supreme Court nominee a hearing and a vote? where is the precedent and/or the proof of its official existence as a Senate rule?
