You definitely should do a video on pencils as well. Honestly though, I started using the Bic Mechanical Pencils in .7mm in Junior High and still use them...they're cheap, and if you don't use the eraser on the pencil you can remove it and refill the pencils...they last a long time, even though the pencil is completely plastic including the lead clutch mechanism, they hold up very well over time. My next go-to mechanical pencil is the Zebra M-301 in .5mm or .7mm when you can find the .7mm ones. I have a lot of pens and pencils from pretty much all the brands, my daily pens are just the bare basic Bic Round Stick pens, they seem to have a habit of wandering off, so I don't carry anything of value with me at work.
As someone who writes really small and always manages to smudge other inks, I'll always vouch for the Pilot Hi-Tec pens and the Coleto pens. It's the best 0.3 tip I've ever used!
I've always been a stationery nerd and I love just about all my pens. The Parker Jotter has sentimental value for me because my late father liked them. Today I just ordered a Preppy fountain pen for my 10-year-old son. He wanted to try a fountain pen. I'm not letting him touch mine, even though I have a ridiculous number of them! Please do a video on subscribers' favorite planners, notebooks, and pencils.
There IS a difference if you live at altitude (6500 feet or higher) for gel pens and in a dry climate. The EnerGel works exceptionally well at altitude and in a dry climate. The Zebra Sarasa works really well in a dry climate, however, we have experienced leaking ink at altitude and the same with the Pilot G2. We're not ballpoint fans so can't speak to whether or not they have issues at altitude and dry climate. Fountain pens will dry out faster in a dry climate but seem to work just fine at altitude.
I've been using the Pilot Frixion for colour coded scheduling for a few years now. So easy to rub out when schedules change! My new fav is Zebra Sarasa clip vintage pens. And Uni jetstream was an oldskool fav back in my uni days.
for note-taking, i’ve tried so many different pen bodies, thinking that bigger and squishier is better… but they turned out to cause me more hand cramps that a smaller sarasa clip pen. combine with pentel energel ink and *chefs kiss*! i also got a twsbi diamond recently and i LOVE IT, it’s so handy to refill and change out the nibs! absolutely wonderful. oh and for my kokuyo jibun techo lite, the brown energel coleta in .3mm is a live saver - thin enough to write in the small grid side, and such a nice warm brown color!
My favourite fountain pen is the Kaweko Liliput Fireblue and it probably wasn't featured as it is on the upper end in terms of price. I got mine as a gift for my sixteenth birthday from my parents and it writes better than most other pens I've used and it somehow looks even better!
I love my gel pens (vintage Sarasa, Pilot Juice Up and Energel, in particular), but I have ventured into some fountain pens lately. I have a Pilot Kakuno - super fine line, beginner friendly and a pastel body that makes me smile. And a couple Monami Olika colors - olive is my current obsession. They're both extremely budget-friendly, yet still reliable and fun to use. I love that there are so many great options for all kinds of budgets. Jetpens is my go-to place for all stationery!!! Looking forward to the notebook favorites video.
@@tamikojohnson5399 I agree! The fine nib gives a really delicate line, but it feels smooth and easy to write with. I actually bought 2 colors (pastel yellow and pastel purple) so I can use different colors to use at the same time. I am really enjoying them!
The energel comes in a permanent version that I love and use. In 0.5mm and 0.7mm is waterproof and fraud resistant, great for working in the medical field where prescriptions get forged and signatures get altered, disappear, or duplicated.
I have a Lamy Safari that has really ignited my passion for fountain pens. My wife bought me a Pelikan for Christmas and OH MY GOODNESS, the difference between them is amazing. For rollerball pens I prefer the Retro 51s. The exterior designs are so interesting and they write so well.

For someone who likes fountain pens AND highlighters, the Steadler Text Surfer Classic is the only one that works for me. The price is reasonable, and I can easily find it in my country. It was the most common highlighter available in my region long before stationary gain this much attention. That was about 12 years ago.
Jetstream converted me from Pilot G2/Juice to a ballpoint. I picked two up in Narita out of necessity at the beginning of COVID while I was stranded without any of my stuff.
The Jotter is by far the best among ballpoints. It has the richest history, the design of the pen is an American art-deco classic. Personally I want to be surrounded by things of aesthetic beauty and rich, storied histories. But even if that is discounted, the design is so ubiquitous that both the pen itself and the refill have been copied countless times. It it is "the" archetypal ballpoint pen. My oldest personally owned Jotter took me through a large part of my schooling decades ago and I know it will outlive me. Although I love the Jetstream, the irony of it all is you can buy a Jetstream refill that fits the Parker Jotter (or any other pen that takes a Parker-style G2 refill.)
That is exactly what i did! I was about to suggest you trying out the excellent jetstream refill in the jotter body when i read you’ve done that as well 🎉
👍The Sarasa Dry are great pens in multiple tip sizes, and they do not smear in my experience! I had to get used to the fact that even the bold tip was practically smear proof while writing! I tested it first to be sure to alleviate any future writing anxiety! 😂
I love my Pentel RSVP ballpoint pen for drawing and wrong concept art. It's one of the only pens I've come across that can give a variation like a pencil. If I use a light hand the ink leaves light lines, and when I want to lay down more important lines I just add some pressure.
My two go to pens are pentel energel and zebra sarasa clip. They're my favorite plus they have such a variety of colors! I have every single color from the sarasa vintage line as well :)
I have used them several times. The ink supply lasts quite a while, I think longer than the Pilot G2 pens, and has a smoother writing experience than the G2 pens as well. The rollerball on the Pentel Energel is extremely smooth, with no skipping, and rough spots. I used to think the Pilot G2 pens were awesome, but after writing with several different Pentel Energel pens from .7mm to 1mm I find them much better in quality and writing experience. The .5mm Energel is pretty smooth as well for as fine of a point that it has. The .7mm is usually my most common tip size in all my pens and even my pencils...the 1mm is pretty bold so for finer type writing you may want to stick with a .5mm or possibly a .7mm if you aren't trying to write in a tiny space.
The Pentel Energel replaced the Pilot G2 when I found I like a smaller size (0.3-0.4mm is my sweet spot) and I found the energel dries faster. I write quickly and carry my hand close to the page, so I've smudged G2 ink a lot. The G2 is a hair smoother of an experience, probably because it's so wet it comparison, so I'll take the trade off. I also find that I get more mileage out of the energel refills.
my favourite gel pen is the pentel energel with zebra sarasa being the second. my fav ball pen is the uni jetstream and my fav highlighter is the zebra mildliner. this made me happy cuz my favourite stationery were all in XD
Zebra Sarasa is probably my favorite pen, but I’ve recently switched to Pilot Dr.Grip 4 in 1- I also used Pilots Dr.Grip gel version with my Sarasa refills before. I love the Zebra grand, it’s beautiful but I have carpal tunnel, so I started using the Dr.Grip to help with the pain. If I ever switched from that, maybe I’ll try the Zebra Select!
I actually have every model of jet stream pen and multi pen combinations uni ball offers. Now I’m working on every color. I use them at work and home. I even travel with a few in my vehicles! I just love them! 😊
the pilot kakuno extra fine is the perfect beginner pen thats a little fancier than the pilot preppy disposable looking body. it writes great on cheap paper and its perfect for students, especially in clear or any of the pastel colors
Woohoo, TWSBI Eco hype!! I also have a rose gold one, and it’s my favorite :) I also love my Lamy, but my Pilot Metropolitan is a bit too heavy in my hand. Love the nib, though. So fine and smooth!
Gel pens give something that the ball point pens can never give and vice versa. Note taking is one aspect but if you look back at the notes a few months down the line, the crispiness that the gel ink provides on the paper is just a different feeling. Gel Pens over Ball pens any day.
I don't really use highlighters so I do not have a favorite but otherwise my favorite Gel Pen is definitely the Sarasa Grand, while my ballpoint of choice is the Phisher Space pen for ease of writing although I usually sub out the barrel for a Zebra F 701 for better handling, lastly my workhorse fountain pen is currently a Parker IM although I really want to get a Twisbi after how many people say they are one of the best out there.
Fun video! How about the kuretake brush highlighters? I also love the Pilot Petit1 Mini Fountain Pen and the Pilot Kakuno Fountain Pens although the platinum preppy is preferred over the kakuno.
So..I'm into ballpoints pens ànd favourite is Quantum Marshmello 0.29 mm. It like the smoothest ballpoint pen I've ever use! There's no skip or anything. It's also so cheap too! I love it 💕
Sarasa vintage were my favorite gel pens until I tried the Uniball ONE pens! I missed those on the list, they are amazing and perfect on Tomoe River paper :)
i'm obsessed with all the Zebra Sarasa pens. Marble!!! decoshine! the pastel set. and, of course, the Vintage colors. i love all of them. they never disappoint. my fave is the 0.5 tip.
Best gel pen for the price is the Gelocity and this Indian gel pen is better suited for lefties than others in the market. Best gel pen for value also.
I know these are not the best or favorite But for a beginner in the fountain pen journey. The Zebra fountain pens non-refillable are great. I don't want to fool with refilling the ink cartridge right now and with just starting out these work just fine and cheap too for 3 to a package at Walmart.
The Monstar pen from Flexoffice is my go to pens. They're really good and pretty cheap. But I also love the jetstream. I bought a 30 pcs of the Monstar pens and they come with 28 blue,1 black and 1 red.
Jen is more energetic in her more recent videos in 2023, and with shorter hair. Back on point, I have a version of all FPs in the video, except for the Eco. Might skip it for a 580. As for BPs, it has to be the Parker Jotters.
Let’s start rating the Staedtler ballpoint pens which come in a pack of 10. Iv’e been using them for 3 years, and they still work. + you don’t need to press hard like other ballpoint pens Other two best things are 1, they are perfect for highliting 2. They don’t bleed throught the page and when u turn on the next page, you are less likely to see the stains
Best pens that i use when writing here in Philippines is the Pilot Acroball Purewhite 0.7mm, Pilot G-Tec C3 & C4 and also the Dong A-My Gel and the Pilot Hitecpoint V7. MultiPen i use is the Pilot Acroball 4. And the most expensive pen that i use is the Parker Jotter.
I have been using G-tech ever since high school but when I started learning Japanese my favorite became Zebra Sarasa. But my National Bookstore is always sold out of that pen 😅
personally, i can't choose between the zebra sarasa mark on, the zebra sarasa clip, and the pentel energel. I've been using the pentel energel since third grade, and I found my first zebra sarasa clip on the floor. and now they're my two favorite pens. the uniball signo is my thinnest pen, but i don't use it as much as the others. when it comes to ballpoint pens, i agree, the uni jetstream is my favorite. i use highlighters a lot, and I've never really been a fan of bright neon colors, and when i found out about the mildliners, and that they weren't as bright, i decided to buy it, but otherwise i haven't really tried any other highlighters. anyways thank you for your time :).
My favorite pen refill is Pentel Energel 1.0mm because I love the big bold line. Not a huge fan of any Energel pen bodies though but the refill fits perfectly in Uni's Alpha Gel Jetstream that is much more comfortable.
I'm terrified of the pilot frixion pens after using it once for my notes at the beginning of the year and coming back to the notes to find them vanishing. Although they weren't completely gone, that incident terrified me.
I ditched my gel pens because of my planners and the smear factor. Mark On does not have enough colors. So I am surprises there is no mention of the Pilot ball point Hi-Tech C pens at 0.4 size. They work great in the tiny Japanese tiny grid sizes, no smear, and sooooo many colors! I lay down my high lighter color, and then can write on the background color easily without any smear or water feathering of my other pens. Otherwise I am pretty much in agreement with the ranking system you came out with,
I used to use mildliners but switched to the zebra kirarich ones. The glitter is so cute! I prefer pretty highlighters over functional useful ones hahaha. Def am in the uni signo crowd as well, I love mine. As for ballpoints I guess I'll need to try the jetstream,,, bc I dislike them haha
I truly love jetstream ink and body, however the ink just won’t work after few days (i’ve bought few jetstreams and each pen just stop working). I use sarasa dry ink on jetstream body, it works like magic 👍🏻
She used a Uni-ball Signo Angelic Gel Pen and a q-tip to blend the gel ink into the Mildliner! Other opaque gel pens like Sakura Gelly Rolls will work too. www.jetpens.com/Uni-ball-Signo-Angelic-UM-120AC-Gel-Pens/ct/359
@@JetPens Can you guys make a video about tricks like this to show us how? I just looked at the scene again, It looks like it's made with two mildliners than highlighted with a white gel pen. Cuz I tried the q-tip method just now, it doesn't look like it at all.
I second this! Bring more artistic videos. I’d love a video about how to use highlighters and white gel pens to create cute titles and headers for my journals. Also, what is that washi tape on the side? Looks dope.
Uniball Jetstream rt my favorite pen of all time, i use the ink in a lot of other pens. It isn't as dark as gel but will write on everything and that's the reason I carry it every day.
@@deutzel7 on the jetpens website it has an awesome feature to look at compatible bodies for the pen refill. I actually found out that the rt just refered to the body design not the ink. Go figure. I just recently got a fisher space pen and got the Jetstream pr4 sxr refill for it to use as a small edc pen. Jetstream lineup makes multiple pen refill types. I even saw a twist refill for cross or parker pens.
My fav ballpoint pen is the Pilot Super Grip. The ink runs soooo smooth and doesn't skip, even on correction tape. It does with the Uni Jetstream and I had to buy a refill to replace it :(
I do have some favorites. Though only Gelly Roll was on the list. Others I like using include Bic Gelocity, Sharpie S-Gel, Pentel EnerGel. Tul has a nice feel with writing and does look good. But I don't like how easy they break.
How did the zebra fountain pen not make it on this list?! I feel like it’s so slept on but it soooooo good! It being a 0.6 nib gives you the perfect not so thick but not too thin line and the ink is perfectly pigmented. It’s a perfect starter pen! 11/10.
Genuine question, why get that over the preppy? The preppy is only like a dollar more but it is also reusable, comes in more colors, has more ink options, and will last forever. It also writes better, but that's just my personal preference.
@@Inazarab I’ve never used a preppy before, lol I know they are highly recommended but this Zebra is my workhorse pen. I can write with it for hours and have had it sitting in a pen bag for AT LEAST 2 years before I started writing with it again and it still worked. So I’ll recommend it for that reason alone, forever! It also comes in multiple ink colors (have never tried these other colors either, only the black) but I imagine the quality is just as good as the black one. I might give the preppy a try though!
@@tuesdayisthenewfriday I really like the zebra as well, the really important thing for me is that the preppy is reusable but the zebra is a great pen as well!
I've used the entire Zebra lineup and they r just a Dream to write with. I often get asked where I got them from and my BFF often "borrows" them for uni notes. For Fountain Pens, my faves are Twsbi Diamond 580 and Lamy Safari. I used the Pilot Metropolitan and heard people rave about it but I much prefer the Lamy Safari
Sarasa is the cheapest pen, with massive color options and easily obtainable. No wonder it became crowd favorite. I can get Clip with only $1.1 in my country. While Energel Infree and Signo DX was sold at $1.7 and $2. So yeah, price tag play huge role.

The Monstar pen from Flexoffice is my go to pens. They're really good and pretty cheap. But I also love the jetstream. I bought a 30 pcs of the Monstar pens and they come with 28 blue,1 black and 1 red.
I really enjoy the Zebra Tapli
The Acroballs, the Easytouch, Mexican ballpoint pens and even Indian pens are better than the Uniball Jetstream at a lower price.
Uni Ball Vision Elite any day
Jen is more energetic in her more recent videos in 2023, and with shorter hair. Back on point, I have a version of all FPs in the video, except for the Eco. Might skip it for a 580. As for BPs, it has to be the Parker Jotters.
I love using TUL pens and TUL gel pens
Twsbi Eco for life! It’s what got me to ditch gel pens. Writes like a dream, doesn’t dry out, and is exceptionally comfortable.
What maintance comes with fountain Pens? I really want to get one
@@SilastheSatyr Cleaning every time you change inks, especially if it’s a shimmer ink, by flushing with water.
Let’s start rating the
Staedtler ballpoint pens which come in a pack of 10.
Iv’e been using them for 3 years, and they still work.
+ you don’t need to press hard like other ballpoint pens
Other two best things are
1, they are perfect for highliting
2. They don’t bleed throught the page and when u turn on the next page, you are less likely to see the stains
I’m so excited to see you hit 600k! Congrats!
@@hubyty yes, I'm loyal when it comes to Pilot Pens
My favorite is the Papermate inkjoy. I just wish you could get pen refills.
My favourite pens are Zebra Sarasa Nano and Zebra Blen and Zebra G-750. I like as well ohto slim 0.3 mm
I must say that the parker jotter is one of if not the best pen I have ever used
If you can please try it with the jetstream refill in. It will write soo much smoother its crazy
This is a great video. Very informative!
personally, i can't choose between the zebra sarasa mark on, the zebra sarasa clip, and the pentel energel.
I love that you found your first Zebra Sarasa on the floor. What an awesome floor find! Most floor gifts aren't so nice.
@@ReptarsaurusRex ive found a lot of decent to good pens on the floor, including a pilot G2, and a pentel energel!
My favorite pen refill is Pentel Energel 1.0mm because I love the big bold line. Not a huge fan of any Energel pen bodies though but the refill fits perfectly in Uni's Alpha Gel Jetstream that is much more comfortable.
I really dislike the uniball jetstream. 1mm too thick and anything below that too scratchy. Is the pilot acroball300 better at .7 or 1mm?
Gel penner here...totally nailed my favorites and in order. Gotta check out Sarasa Study though.
I go between Zebra Sarasa Clip/Vintage and Uni-ball for gel pens. So good and reliable.
I love a classic yellow Ticonderoga 3h pencil.
Otherwise I am pretty much in agreement with the ranking system you came out with,
"The ballpoint pens didn't have too much votes" Gel pens at 13k, Ballpoint at 12k LOL
Pilot G-2 .7 are one of my favourite pens, they work great for notes
my daily is the muji 0.38 gels but when i want to switch it up, i go for the pilot hi-tec c 0.4 for how liquid and smooth it can be
I truly love jetstream ink and body, however the ink just won’t work after few days (i’ve bought few jetstreams and each pen just stop working).
I use sarasa dry ink on jetstream body, it works like magic 👍🏻
Suggest any ball point pen like rOtring 600 or metal pen with grip near the tip
If you can, please do suggest mechanical pencil like rOtring 600
I love Schneider pen
My rollerball choice is the stabilo pointball, but you don't stock it.
How did you make the blending effect with mildliners for you journal headers? @4:12
I also absolutely adore the jetstream smoothness. What other pens can you use it in?
@@deutzel7 on the jetpens website it has an awesome feature to look at compatible bodies for the pen refill.
I actually found out that the rt just refered to the body design not the ink. Go figure.
I just recently got a fisher space pen and got the Jetstream pr4 sxr refill for it to use as a small edc pen.
Jetstream lineup makes multiple pen refill types. I even saw a twist refill for cross or parker pens.
Perfect thanks for sharing
No rollerballs 😢
Love the vintage ones with the clips
My fav ballpoint pen is the Pilot Super Grip. The ink runs soooo smooth and doesn't skip, even on correction tape. It does with the Uni Jetstream and I had to buy a refill to replace it :(
Pilot G-Tecmatic is underrated, it writes so nice and keeps up with my horrible handwriting
Her energy reminds me of Olivia Culpo when she hosted Miss Universe 2020
Pentel energel my favourite pen😍
I do have some favorites. Though only Gelly Roll was on the list. Others I like using include Bic Gelocity, Sharpie S-Gel, Pentel EnerGel. Tul has a nice feel with writing and does look good. But I don't like how easy they break.
How did u do the ombré header at 4:13?
When can you guys ship to other countries for a low shipping rate!!!
How did the zebra fountain pen not make it on this list?! I feel like it’s so slept on but it soooooo good! It being a 0.6 nib gives you the perfect not so thick but not too thin line and the ink is perfectly pigmented. It’s a perfect starter pen! 11/10.
Do you mean the Zensations Fountain Pen to.jetpens.com/3s0h0uT? If so, we agree that it's a great starter fountain pen! Definitely underrated.
@@JetPens YES!
@@tuesdayisthenewfriday I really like the zebra as well, the really important thing for me is that the preppy is reusable but the zebra is a great pen as well!
the faber castell loom has to be the nicest steel nib fountain pen out there, I love it
PILOT VARSITY
LUXOR INK GLIDE
and roller balls...
Plz make a video on these
your so close to 600k subs! i’m gonna sub 😚
Great video ! Very interesting ! I wish you did the same for the drafting and mechanical pencils !
Prefer Energel to the sarasa.
Sarasa is the cheapest pen, with massive color options and easily obtainable. No wonder it became crowd favorite. I can get Clip with only $1.1 in my country.
While Energel Infree and Signo DX was sold at $1.7 and $2. So yeah, price tag play huge role.
